Is Ashgrove good for someone from Indian origin?

I am moving to Brisbane from Sydney and have heard lots of good things about Brisbane especially how friendly people in Brisbane are. We are originally from India and have been staying in Sydney for last 10-15 years. I wanted to ask if AShgrove is a good suburb to raise my 8 year old? Is Ashgrove a multicultural community? Will we be welcome in the suburb?
I am specifically asking this question because there is a strong community presence in some of the Sydney suburbs and people from other cultural backgrounds are not welcome. I really do not want my child to suffer and thus this concern. Someone told me that realestate agents in some suburbs would not even bother to rent or sell a property to me because of my ethnic background. All these is making me nervous and worried. Please help and guide.
