I am a relocation agent and have settled many families into Brisbane over the years. Middle to upper class suburbs with good shops, schools and facilities that are popular with new arrivals to Brisbane include Bulimba / Hawthorne/Balmoral, Ashgrove/Paddington/Bardon, Indooroopilly, Windsor/Wilson and Newmarket. Each area has its own nuances and local feel so what best suits you will depend on your budget, commuting requirements, property availability etc.

For access to the CBD, Shops, Universities, hospitals etc with a great family valued sense of community, I don't think you could go past Yeronga.
It is on a Peninsula so there is no through traffic, only locals which make it quiet and secure.
Great places for coffee and eating out, local shops and easy access to public transport make it a pleasure to live here.
