Me and my family are emigrating to Adelaide next year

Sponsored by SA.
I work in IT.
It will be myself, hubby and our 2 year old.

I am a 'convenient' person, meaning, I WANT or NEED things to be very local and within short distance.

We don't go out, eat out of anything like that.

Gym would be nice, park, beach, medicare office, doctors, children's doctor, dentist
MARKET to do my weekly shopping (I heard coles and wollies are too expensive to buy food!)

If I find work in the city, I want to travel no more than 20-30mins, and I want the commute to be easy.

Hi there,

First of all, congrats on your move! :-) Adelaide's a really nice city and one of the most affordable in Australia.

If you're wanting convenience and ease of commute then inner southern suburbs is what I'd suggest for you. The Marion/Oaklands Park area is great - I lived there for 3 years. It has a major aquatic centre as well as an outdoor swimming pool, shopping centre, cinema, 10 mins max from the beach, big medical centre with a dentist, Centrelink office, Medicare office and I'm sure a nice gym would be within 10 mins drive too.

The Marion Shopping Centre has a range of fruit and veg stores, as well as Woolworths and Coles, but lately the major supermarket chains have been competing heavily with each other for business so prices have come down a lot. I shop at Woolworths because that's all we have where I live but I would still shop there probably if I still lived in Adelaide.

The Adelaide Central Markets are wonderful for fresh food shopping with a great range of produce, but this is located in the CBD. They do have plenty of car parks there though so it wouldn't be unreasonable to shop for fresh food there and just get your other bits and pieces from your local supermarket.

Suburbs along Anzac Highway are also lovely and rent is reasonable. The commute into the city is quick and relatively easy and you'd be 10 mins to the city or 10 mins to the beach. There's a great fitness/physio hub on the corner of Anzac Highway and Morphett Rd too.

Suburbs along Goodwood Road would also be good, such as Colonel Light Gardens, Cumberland Park and Daw Park. I lived in Daw Park for a year. They're all conveniently located for getting to the city, as well as going to the beach or to Marion Shopping Centre.

Did you have any other questions about moving to or living in Adelaide? I'd be happy to try and help :-)
