Croydon is a very suitable neighborhood for families, and its proximity to Yarra Valley makes it ideal for various activities. The neighbors are kind, friendly, and there's a sense of safety. There are quite decent schools in the area. The streets are clean, and there's good greenery. However, the downside is the distance from the CBD. Main street boasts many great cafes and shops, and Eastland Shopping Centre is within a 10-15 minute drive.

I lived here for 28 years and I've come to appreciate it more since moving away. For a family, it's ideal: it has some good schools and plenty of green spaces. Since I've left, it's really upped its cafe game, too. My main drag has nothing on Croydon Main Street! My only criticism is it's too far away from the city — 50 minutes by train. Commuting from Croydon to almost anywhere beyond its general locality is always a hike. If accessibility to more central locations is important to you, don't live here. If you want to live in a bubble that caters to your every need and that you'll rarely need to stray from, Croydon is your suburb. (It's also fairly close to the Yarra Valley, if that's something that interests you.)

Great area which is close to Eastlink and Eastland but also not far from the Yarra Valley for a nice weekend activity. Great for families, singles or couples!

Croydon is a relaxed and vibrant area away from the busy city. Popular with families, it has a range of lovely parks, localised shopping, an independent cinema and a laidback leisurely lifestyle – all with good roads and public transport to keep convenience at your door.

Great access to city via train/Eastern Freeway. Very green and leafy at the base of Mt Dandenong.
Plenty of beautiful streets with lovely homes. A vast choice of primary and secondary schools including private/state/catholic/alternative. Still a bit rough in areas and the Main Street could do with a facelift but it’s on its way to being gentrified

I have been living in Croydon since 2013 and I love it! There is an abundance of trees and magnificent views of Mt Dandenong. I live in central Croydon and can walk everywhere! Within a 10min walk there is everything you need - supermarkets, shops (including a very nice bookshop), cafes, post office, library, swimming pools, a large number of gyms. Recreational facilities are excellent - there are several large parks here and Mt Dandenong is really not far. Schools are not great in my opinion and distance from the City makes it hard to get anywhere, but you can get used to that. I lived in the Inner East before I moved to Croydon, but actually find Croydon a much more interesting place to live.

I've lived in Croydon for 2 years. The options for food and general shopping is actually pretty good, you have Croydon Central, Civic Square, Chirnside and Eastland all very close (though Chirnside is not so PTV friendly). In terms of going out at night, not great, there is one bar of note that does custom Vodka Flavours (low alcohol but tastes nice). During the day though, there is a decent selection of Cafes and other places to grab lunch.

PTV is good in the sense that Croydon is a main stop on the Lilydale line so every train stops there. However, for people heading to the CBD it does take 40-50 minutes. For students (further ed) you have Swinburne Croydon Campus which offers TAFE courses, as for going out, again if you want the CBD it takes a while.

Overall, I would say Croydon has good food, decent shopping options, poor nightlife and is most beneficial to those who drive. I should also mention there is a lot of green which may be appealing, though the crime rate is actually kind of high compared to many suburbs closer to the city.

Croydon is located in the outer eastern suburbs of Melbourne and is surrounded by extensive parklands. Some of the popular ones are Candlebark Walk Reserve in Croydon Hills which has a lake and has a great walking/bike trail. Ainslie Park is great for sporting enthusiasts and children and toddlers as it includes a playground, an oval, cricket practice nets, basketball court, half netball court, guide hall and walking circuit around the reserve. Grandfill Reserve is a major flora sanctuary in the birdlife corridor in Croydon. It focuses on preserving indigenous flora making it attractive for bushwalking. Across the railway line and in the heart of Croydon is Croydon Central which caters for all essential services ranging from clothing stores, health and beauty and a wide selection of fresh and local food with a vision to develop further retail services converting it to a vibrant and central community hub. Another appreciable feature amongst the many shopping facilities is the attractive tree-lined shopping strip on Main Street where you can enjoy a number of different outdoor eateries, cafes and retail shops. Great schools surrounding the area include Croydon Primary School, Croydon Community School, Melba College and Sacred Heart Primary School. Not to mention the highly reputable Luther College in Croydon Hills and Yarra Valley Grammar in Ringwood.
Croydon is also home to many aged care facilities namely Bupa Aged Care Croydon and Donwood Community Aged Care Services Inc, the suburb of Croydon caters to all. With such a wide choice for lifestyle, it is not surprising to find why families and young couples and retirees choose this suburb as their home.

Croydon has something to offer everyone, it is a great place to live and work. Main Street has an abundance of cafes and shops, The Public Brewery is a fantastic place to catch up with friends. Great for families with schools and parks, the Memorial Pool and Croydon Aquahub. The public transport system, with station and bus routes makes it so easy to get to where you need to be for work or leisure. I highly recommend this suburb for anyone looking to buy.

I have been a resident in Croyden for over 2 years now. I rent a house with 2 of my friends, and attend university in Melbourne CBD. We all use public transport to get to and from uni, of which the costs do add up but that is our best option at the moment. The only problem with the public transport is the lack of stops, and times that the buses are running. I live a short walk from the shops which helps alot! My favourite thing to do is stand on our roof of a summer night and do my yoga. We also have a 2 indoor pet rabbits, 1 dog, and 1 kit which we all take on a morning stroll.

We have lived in Croydon since 1987, Eastland, Chirnside and Knox shopping very close. Good government and Private schools around. Takes 35 mins to drive to Melbourne, I worked in Hawthorn at 1 time and would take 15mins to get to Melbourne with the heavy traffic all day. Everything you need is in Croydon and Ringwood area. The suburb is very green and a lovely place to live. The toll way with house prices half of what they are only 20 min drive way. Don't srtess over a big mortgage buy here. The house we are in now we payed 173000 for in 1997, valued at 700000+ now. 44 sq on 1100 sq m of land. So don't think houses don't go up in the out east THEY DO BIG TIME. Even more scope with the Toll way and new expansion at Eastland, COSCO. and Croydon Shopping centre over the next 2-3 years.

Croydon offers a great lifestyle for families, young couples or retires. It is surrounded by quality primary and secondary schools and has great shopping facilities. Excellent transport with buses, train station and an easy drive to Melbourne or Mornington Peninsula on Eastink.

From Ringwood to the Dandenongs and beyond, the undulating terrain and nature is really picturesque... Love living here!

Ridiculous to get any where, major house density,impossible to right hand turn onto main thoroughfare, impossible to park, unsafe to walk any time of day,

Having lived in Croydon for over 30 years, I have seen the area undergo a variety of changes. However, the one constant is Croydon's family-friendly lifestyle and facilities.

The Croydon Railway Station is well serviced by buses and taxis, and is an easy walk or drive from most parts of the suburb. Similarly, Maroondah Highway provides quick and easy access to nearby Ringwood and Melbourne via the Eastlink Freeway to the west, and the Yarra Valley to the east.

The Eastlink Freeway has created easy access to the south, and it is now a quick trip to the Mornington Peninsula and Port Philip Bay.

A recent improvement to the Main Street shopping precinct is the Croydon Town Square. Previously a narrow and intimidating walkway was the only direct access from the Croydon Railway Station to Main Street. The removal of a large shop building and the creation of a large open grassed public area has greatly improved pedestrian safety and access to the top end of Main Street.

We have just moved into Croydon, from the inner suburbs of Melbourne and have been really impressed by the area. It will great to see how things develop during our time here...

Croydon is a leafy green suburb, about 40 mins to the city by train. Trains are frequent and not too bad. The Dandenong Ranges form a stunning backdrop to the area. There are shopping centers, and great medical facilities. Childcare options and many parks make this area perfect for young families.

A lovely neighbourhood with over 20,000 residents, Croydon is a thriving shopping hub boasting restaurants, a cinema, hairdressers, supermarkets, toy stores, clothing shops, chemists, bakeries, florists and more. An ideal location for families, Croydon plays host to a leisure centre, public pool, community arts centre, youth centre, golf course and cricket and football clubs. There are also a number of primary and secondary schools in the area as well as a technology university. A train station and various bus routes service the town and link Croydon with neighbouring areas.

Views to the Dandenongs in some parts, gravel bush roads in other parts, great shopping and rail access in the centre of town... if ever there was a suburb with the lot this is it!
Croydon has long been a family favourite, favoured for the serenity and quiet ambience, and while it has grown in size to include Croydon Hills - a small estate now well-established - the central Croydon still exudes the same character it always has.
Long-time residents are many, but young families and first-home buyers are also moving to the area thanks to the train station, bus services and housing affordability.
