Please help - need to know about travel times from Doncaster to Port Melbourne?

Hi there,
Hoping someone in the Doncaster area can help? My family are relocating to Melbourne as my husband has been transfered with his job. He will be based at Port Melbourne. I have been looking constantly on all the real estatem wesbites for 4 bedroom houses etc, but it is very difficult when you don't physically know the areas, where you need to look?
My parents live Mt Dandenong and of course would like us to be near them so they can see the grandkids etc. I think the journey for hubby would be too far though, by looking at the map.
Lots of people have told them to tell us to look at Glen Waverley/Mount Waverley areas as that is about 30km's journey. I have been looking and it seems there is not a lot in the way of 4 bed etc.
I went to a wedding 20yrs ago in the Doncaster area and always remembered how lovely and leafy it was. Looking at the websites, there seems to be plenty of 4 bed homes in the price range we can afford. HOWEVER.....!!!! A few people have told us that it would be a nightmare to journey to Port Melb as you have to take the main freeway, then go thru Hodder St in the city which is where all the bottle neck will happen. I just need someone who lives in the area and who travels to the city to tell me roughly how the journey is and roughly how long it takes. My hubby would probably leave around 7am each day.
Hope someone can help. It's hard putting in aaplication forms with estate agents without really knowing how long travl times will be.
Cheers,

Hi Kateo,

I can help! I live in Port Melbourne, but I used to live in Templestowe, which is a two minute drive Doncaster. I'm always out visiting my parents who live there.

So there's not denying it, driving from Port Melbourne is a bit of a pain. I normally avoid the Hoddle Street at all costs and go through Richmond instead. It will take you at least 30-40 minutes, depending on what time you leave.

The good news is that most of that journey is on the freeway, so it's not as bad as it seems.

This link will show you the way I take:

Please feel free to ask me anymore questions as I know both suburbs very well. Doncaster is a beautiful suburb!
