Considering buying in Ipswich

I lived in Ipswich back around 2003 and loved it. And now I'm considering buying out here. Partly because I do have fond memories and greatly because I can't afford to buy in Brisbane.
Can anyone please advise what the road into Bris is like these days? If travelling to around the Milton area, what time of day would be the best to head off if driving? I've heard horror stories about the gridlock on the Ippy motorway. And the same question for heading home. How long in peak hour??
My next question is what are the better suburbs. I'm a single female, so security is really important to me.
There's some really great properties for sale but I can't really remember too much of the suburbs outside of where I lived on Glebe Rd.
I'd appreciate any feedback from any Ippy locals as to their opinions on the best places to look.
Thanks in advance.
Rose.

Sorry can't help with the driving side but best suburbs ... depends on what your focus is. Every suburb has their security problems much like any other city. Were you wanting to buy or rent? Woodend has had some good reports, North Ipswich is going ahead due to Riverlink, so is the city itself due to massive upgrades with new appartment buildings planned and a big overhaul of the city centre. Top of the town (West Ipswich) also changing thanks to the new Bunnings store and many more retail stores. This will impact on local housing. Big expansion also at Amberley, upgrades and more housing. A lot more new appartments up around the Booval railway station. Might be worth looking at if you want to 'walk and ride' in lieu of 'park and ride'.

Thanks for that! My goal is to buy. Do you have an opinion on Raceview? I used to ride out that way and quite liked the look of it. And Silkstone as well. I want to by a house, not an apartment as I refuse to pay massive body corp fees. Are there any areas to avoid due to flooding? I know the likelihood of a flood occurring again is rare, but it is something to think of.
Really appreciate your comments!

Raceview is nice and just up the road is Flinders View. They are both lovely suburbs but just the flooding in lowline areas of Raceview.
I am looking at moving back to Ipswich as well. Been away for about 5 years and can't wait to get back. Good luck

Sorry forgot to say about the Motorway. It has some big improvements and it will be better within this year. Milton has always been a hole to drive around through the week. Does not matter what time of the day. Week ends Brilliant.

I've owned it for 15yrs. completed a full gut and referb last year... it has fundered my recent home purchase,I admit I'm bias as I loved calling it home for 13 yrs as a single girl I felt like the Queen with all work commutes obligations, amenities, social events, uncomplicated with the train station a 2min stroll away making my efforts, effortless...
I'm selling because this little beauty has alot to give so I'm excited for the next person who will feel it's warmth....
