Reviews of Kingscote, SA

Looking for a home in Kingscote?

"A nice town on a lovely island."

The main town on Kangaroo Island, this is a small town. There is a good coverage of shops so you should be able to get most things you need here. However, for any major purchases you’ll probably need to make you’re way over to the mainland.

Kingscote has a great feel to it and would make a nice little place to live. However, it’s a lot way south so it is frequently cold and windy.

Kingscote provides the gateway to the rest of the island and there is a lot to like about the Island. Increasing numbers of wineries and tother great produce make it a nice place to visit and a quiet place to live.

"A small seaside country town, on a well-serviced island"

Kingscote is the ‘capital’ of Kangaroo Island, a rugged island situated just over 100 kilometres from Adelaide. Kangaroo Island is Australia’s third largest island, and it is a popular tourist spot that is also supported by farming and fishing industries.

Kingscote is on the northern side of Kangaroo Island, and is the closest point to the mainland. Accessing Kingscote is time-consuming. You can drive by taking your car on the ferry from Cape Jervis (which takes an hour or so). Driving to Cape Jervis from Adelaide takes around two hours.

Otherwise there is an airport close to Kingscote, with multiple flights to Adelaide every day.

Kingscote has the feel of a small seaside country town. It can get very busy in summer with the seasonal influx of tourists. It is a good spot for country living, with a number of shops for groceries and other services. There is a post office, a number of banks and other services. However you will need to head to the mainland for major shopping and some of the larger services.

It is a lovely spot for raising a family, with the sea on your door-step and local schools (although number of families do elect to send the kids to boarding school in Adelaide for the later years).
