"More good than bad but mixed feelings"

(March 2024 review)
I have lived in West Heidelberg for around 2 years now. I first decided to rent because I was unsure of the area. My family has owned a business in heidelberg heights for around 15 years so I wanted to be a close distance away. My first year i lived in Carbeena parade, i had a pretty good experience living there no issues really at all. Because of that i decided i would purchase my first property a small apartment on liberty parade. Only really 2 streets down from where i was renting but its a bit more different here than in a small quite street to be honest. I moved in around September and it kind of seems like there are more dodgy people in this part.. i hear a random man sometimes screaming profanity’s at himself nonstop on the street- i have woken up to him screaming too around 3am.. i saw a guy once in the middle of the street in broad day light when i was driving who was clearly high on meth or ice who looked terrifying,we had to drive around him because he was not moving out of the way, a few of my neighbours things were stolen from there storage cages, they even stole a travel bag from my storage box even though its locked.. they stole it through my storage cage somehow!! i moved all my expensive things back to my parents house garage as i don’t trust the people walking around here at all. Im just waiting for my cheap $99 Kmart bike with flat tyres to get stolen too at this point.. at night times there are people drag racing almost every night its so loud,it can go on for hours and makes it more difficult to sleep for me which sucks. Its also weird though i dont feel unsafe at all.. most of the junkies ive seen around the area who have interacted with me have all been nice to me. Most junkies do keep to themselves though.. there are also people constantly begging for money at the aldi nearby and police have been called and aldi staff yelling at them to leave etc. My neighbours are all so nice too i walk the darebin trail often and on my way home have had conversations with some of my neighbours, its so random the dodgy people walking around the area sometimes, junkies screaming at night etc but having completely normal working class neighbours. I do love my apartment alot and im so close to the city which is nice. I have also had experiences in Heidelberg Heights where our family business is located(near waterdale road)- ive seen a junkie trying to steal a coworker’s bike while i was walking into the building, someone dropped a small bag of white powder right in front of the business building(looked like cocaine or something) dodgy people around and apparently Heidelberg heights is supposed to be better lol and the properties are double the price.. I’ve seen more but I can’t remember certain scenarios as its been spaced throughout 15 years. I love being near northland and i do go shopping at Ivanhoe 5 mins away pretty often too. There is some bad but i feel there is still more good! At the end of the day i did choose to live here knowing it is that little bit dodgy but i did get my first investment property for a great price and honestly every suburb has dodgier parts than others. Hopefully the suburb will continue to improve!

"Location - City living at outer suburb pricing"

Hi all we moved into Liberty Pde, Heidelberg West in Dec 07. Unsure of what to expect we have been more than surprised, with friendly neighbours and a very proactive council, this suburb is on the up. In over two years many small families have moved in either developing or just like us improving what was here. The house's are built far stronger than today's and for us have proved A smart decision. This suburb has excellent parks, shopping & medical services (Mercy for Woman @ Austin only 3 mins away) impressive neighbours like Ivanhoe & Heidelberg and is only 5 minutes from the Preston Market. Surrounded by Eastern Fwy (7mins), Metropolitan Ring Road (10mins) & the Tulla only 15-20 mins try and find that anywhere else in Melbourne for the price. Good Luck & hope we have been some help.
