@ Broadwaybk the Cole Haan sample sale is really tempting. I so love their handbags but I have never really been to a sample sale even though I am subscribed to the Daily Candy newsletter and get all their alerts. I guess I should try and haul myself to the Cole Haan sample sale tomorrow if I really do need another Cole Haan handbag :)

Sample sales? Can you beat that. So what is a sample sale? Is that where they sell samples of products instead of the real deal? Just wondered how that worked. I would love to show up for one just to see what they offer.

@ BroadwayBK How did you find this stuff out? Bless you for the info. I am deeply, deeply in love with sample sales.

Sample sales are when a designer wants to get rid of overstock, and they set up shop temporarily in some empty storefront and sell their brand new merchandise for steep discounts. Sample sales pop up all the time like mushrooms, and disappear again just as quickly. Only ever seen it in New York.

@uptowngirl Who doesn't need a few more Cole Haan bags?

@Uraniumfish Glad to be so helpful. I guess sample sales just fall directly under my strong personal interests category.... I highly recommend subscribing to Daily Candy, they always have great sale offers for email subscribers.

@uptowngirl I wish. I'm actually on the verge of moving and so saving up accordingly. Sample sales will have to wait until March or so, though my email demands that I keep up with all of them.... Thanks for the tip on Swirl - I must say it's about time Daily Candy dedicated itself to sample sales.

The Shoebox, one of my all time favorite shoe stores, is having a really awesome sale this week: http://www.topbutton.com/EmailViewer.aspx?EmailDate=1/25/2010%2003:00:00&Type=SALE&Sale=11061

Shoes are up to 50% off and there is a coupon available from Top Button for an extra 20% off any sale item. I'm not sure if that link will work as it came from my email... let me know if it doesn't and you want it to!

Daily Candy is apparently launching a new wedding version of their weekly: http://www.dailycandy.com/all-cities/weddings/?utm_source=email&utm_medium=txt_link&utm_campaign=weddings_020110

I'm not remotely close to planning my own wedding but I like to peruse stuff like this - flowers, lithography, dresses - so just thought I'd pass it on. :)

@BroadwayBK I have to tell you about the bargain I snagged yesterday.. we were as usual having lunch in the East Village as is our normal Sunday routine when the husband suggested we walk across for the Century 21 anniversary sale. I wasn't really in the mood to buy anything but was happy to go along. Once there I was surprised to see that wasn't really that mobbed maybe the freezing temps were keeping people away and I walked across to check out the handbag section. In the midst of all the various handbags I saw a bunch of Furla handbags. I dont know if you are familiar with this Italian brand but its quite popular and its bags are usually priced $500 upwards. Well the Furlas at Century 21 were priced around $159 and I just couldn't resist them..bought one as an early Valentine's day present for myself!! How I love a bargain!

@uptowngirl That's awesome! Unfortunately I am one of those people that the freezing temps are keeping indoors. It seems pretty surprising that the store wasn't mobbed on a Sunday though.... I think your amazing Furla find may just tempt me to head downtown....

The minute the weather turns reasonable, I'm at every one of those sample sales...I need a decent pair of new boots. I feel I can't call myself a New Yorker without sporting a pair of stylish boots.

Does anyone have an answer for why a snow storm always seems to hit NYC on a weekend and not on a work day?:)

@uptowngirl So no one can legitimately take time off from work.
