Moving to Maroubra ( Rental)

Hi, I am looking to move to Maroubra with my family, a 3 year old and a baby to come, I am inspecting a property at Midway drive in front of coral sea park and was wondering if this is a safe place for us, would I need to put up an alarm system for security? I want to feel safe but I keep reading those negative comments of bad things happening around this area and not sure how much of it is really true. Should I avoid the area and look more north of Maroubra? Tks!
