Is The housing development of Mawson Lakes really as sustainable as they make it seem?

Hi, I am critically analyzing the sustainability of the housing development at Mawson Lakes. My personal relevance is that I am a resident there. Mawson Lakes was built with the intentions of a more sustainable way for the future but do you think they were successful? Yes their use of grey water and contribution of solar is great! But what about the cluster of houses built in tiny blocks, and the use of heaters to warm large rooms? And do you believe the housing designs considered the use of windows for natural light when being built?

The problem with the houses at Mawson Lakes is they have poor insulation, most of them don't have eaves, hot in summer, cold in winter, very car reliant, houses are poorly designed and built, services are concentrated in a particular area which is inconvenient for residents who do not live in that area. A lot of the streets are curved, so it is difficult for houses to face North. The suburb has not been well designed.

Since living in ML our power bill for summer has been $1200 for reverse cycle aircon, its insane. Yes the recycled water is good but to run our reverse cycle air is just ridiculous. We are also in a 2 storey place and it is not suiting our needs now after 18 months with now 2 children. Back of our house is north east so and our living gets quite warm and back of the house gets sun, almost too warm in summer - hence the massive power bills ;)
