Great things to do and see in Melbourne

Hi guys,

Having lived in Melbourne most of my life, I often wonder when people come and visit Victoria from another country just what exactly people can do in here. Some of my overseas friends has asked me when i come to Melbourne just what exactly is there to see. The problem is that while we do have an amazingly diverse city, we don't really have any MAJOR attractions like for example The Sydney Opera House or the London Eye.

So in answer to the question and to help me from being stumped very time I'm asked this question, help me out by answering...

What are some great things to do and see in Melbourne?

I'm from Sydney, and I must admit I haven't found a lot of "big things" to do since moving to Melbourne such as the Opera House or Harbour Bridge. But living in Melb and "visiting" Melbourne are very different things. I would suggest people visit Acland Street and the Beaches around St Kilda. They are quite beautiful in summer. Some of the bars along the beach near the St Kilda baths are great as well.

I've spent a bit of time down at Anglesea surfing just past the lighthouse and that is def one of my favourite things to do. The melbourne show is coming up I think, so that would be cool I guess. Ill think of more...

Go to the MCG on a Saturday and see a football game (AFL not that game Sydneysiders follow!).

The atmosphere is amazing. If you like a beer, head down Bridge Road to the Mountainview beforehand.
