Where to live in Melbourne as a foreign exchange student?

With a maximum weekly rent 180$, really wanting to have my own room, and not too far from the sea. Am I dreaming - or is it possible? Or any good recommendations?
My school is in Burwood, but as Im not going to spend much time there, I do not mind not living "far away". Are there any places spec. you would recommend, anywhere in Melbourne?
I would really just love to get to know the city and the people.

Hey Lis

You may be reaching a little high if you want to be near the sea, but I would recommend looking in the Northern suburbs,. Your best bet may be looking to find a flat share, that way you get to meet people as well.

Hey Lis, Burwood it's not a close to area to the beach. You probably would need to decide between live close to the beach or school. I would recommend bayside suburbs.

Hi there,

If you would like accomodation close to the sea, you could look at Port Melbourne, St Kilda, Elwood.

There are lots of high rise apartment complex's available. Maybe have a look at booking.com there is an endless amount of studio apartments up for rent in these areas at affordable prices.

Hope this helps.

Thanks
