Reviews of Mount Druitt, NSW

"Amazing suburb. I wouldn't live anywhere else"

This is a totally awesome suburb. The neighbours are so friendly and caring. There is kindness everywhere. You can see that everyone just loves living here.

The schools are top quality here and you do not see kids roaming the streets like in other suburbs.

Very low crime rate. We've been here 10 years and feel totally safe.

Unbelievably convenient to everything - train, shops, the RSL club, pubs, coffee shops, medical services, schools etc.

I've lived in Bondi, Mosman, Pymble and Edgecliffe before and nothing can beat Mount Druitt. Life is great here

"2770"

We lived in Willmot for 12 years while saving for a house so I’m very familiar with the area.

The outer suburbs of 2770 including Willmot have very high volumes of public housing, even after a lot has been sold off 20-40% of each suburb remain public housing.

Speaking from my own experience, I can say there are issues with youth i the area and this comes from generational disadvantage.

I can’t say I or any of my family were ever threatened or harmed. We had nothing stolen.

We did have kids on dirt bikes riding around our house 24/7. We did have kids having giant parties behind our house in the empty field. We had plenty of cars burnt in our street. We had neighbours play music so loud it rattled our windows until 4am on Christmas Day.

The viaduct/flood path was full of trollies and rubbish. The nature reserve behind our house would have been great to walk in, if it was not for all the burnt out cars and piles of rubbish dumped around the the accessible parts.

i live in willmot since 2017 , I heard lots of smear campaign against this suburb. to be honest, i dont see any major issue here. except frequent helicopter hoovering, weekend dirt bike noise. please stop bad mouth willmot . I have more break in enter and vandalism when living in city and bankstown area. garage broken into and goods stolen twice, vehicle vandalised twice, harrassed by neigbours and strangers lost count.

"Great place"

I lived in Whalan and Dharruk from 1960 until 1990.
Geez, jersey road dharruk was a dirt road back in the 60's.
I never had any problems except for the occasional letterbox theft.
Other than that it was where I grew up and i still take drives to there now and then.
Good memories!!!

You should go to watch the children playing football and bicycle at the common outdoor area inside the 2 Hythe St. Remember to wear your face mask. All children never wear face masks and some parents do the same as well. They play at there every day during the lock-down. You won't miss a show.

By the way, for your own safety, please go together with a police officer.

"Mt Druitt"

So I came from W.A. I had heard the stories about how wild Mt Druitt was. When I moved in, I thought I was going to encounter crime and lots of it.
I lived there in 2019.
I never had a single problem. I went to The mall often and I would walk around late at night Due to work. Never had a single problem. I actually was shocked about the negativity. Everyone was nice to me. When I was lost and asked for directions people would give them to me.

It was very multicultural which was nice considering I came from a very Wasp area in W.A.
I dont care what people say. You cant have ghettos with houses worth nearly a million dollars.
Don't believe how rough it is. Cause to be honest it isnt. I would happily take my family over for a holiday there. I felt that safe walking around at night. 10/10 would live there again

I'm from Penrith and One day I went to Mount Druitt to see some family, before you know a car crashes into the back of mine, and then just speeds off in a red light, therefore I'm stuck in the most dangerous street of Mount Druitt waiting for RACQ to come, I defiantly do not recommend Mount Druitt!

ianm55

@Jarradw A car hit me in Edgecliff and tried to take off and run. I followed him 5-7 blocks to stop him plus he had his niece in the car He ended up paying for the damage, so sounds like you shouldve got his plate number and handle it with authorities. Does that make Edgecliff dangerous by your definition Did something happen to you when you waited for cops in the dangerous streets obviously not, you wouldve stated that in this feed..You guys are funny here yes there are bad things that happen in places that have low resources, so tell your government to make it better

"It’s what you make of it!"

I lived in Emerton for 17 years (1969-1986) and Lethbridge Park for 11 years (1989-2000).
Even back then Mt Druitt was classed as the Bronx by those who had only read and heard about the place.
Yes there were some undesirables about, but who am I to judge, apparently I’m one of them because I chose to reside there- I’d been labelled!
I went to school with some very intelligent people who weren’t much good at sport, and some fantastic sports people who weren’t exactly Einstein in the classroom, hey each to there own.
I walked dogs through the streets and paddocks of a night without ever being harassed.
I learnt how to survive in my environment and not become an easy target.
All in all, Mt Druitt has made me the person I am today.
I have a very successful business, employ 6 people, own a plethora of property’s, have a man cave full of motorcycles and cars and am basically living the dream.
I never forget where I came from and wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for good old 2770.
THANK YOU MOUNT DRUITT

"No crime that I encountered"

I live in Tregear for two years. Walk the dog every night and have a chat with my neighbours. It's really multicultural so if you're judgemental (like most people on this review site) it's not for you. But if you want to know what the city of villages means this is the place. Everything is on walking distance and with lots of amenities.

The 'shady people' (without dental care) are only hanging at the train station because centrelink and family services are next to here.

There are still many owner/occupiers around my home. The areas that don't look good are social housing estates which are due for renewal. With the Western Sydney Airport and the north south rail-line investments, some government spending is likely to happen in the near future.

"Fine if you don't go looking for trouble"

If you are thinking about moving to the area of Mount Druitt, it is an okay place to live.
When you get on the train there is often some guy with a cap/hoodie with an angry face sitting in the seat facing everyone else. Sometimes traveling on buses or waiting at the bus stop people play loud hip hop with explicit lyrics.

If you want to live peacefully as possible, try to use St. Marys station and drive / catch bus back, don't hang around the local mall or mt Druitt station between 2pm - 5p as some teenagers create a ruckus.

Not just 2pm to 5pm, it is often dangerous after 7pm everyday. The teenagers broke the shop windows. Nothing is changed even up to 2021.

"Worst place ever -"

Very low rated suburb which will make you regret deciding to live in Australia!!

If you would like to see rubbish , live in Mounit Druitt (especially in the area around Westfield) , If you would like to see dodgy and homeless people , go there (especially in the bus stop).
It seems dodgy people from every country decided to live in one place.
Besides people driving their cars are too rude , they will never giveway to you if you decide to change lanes,

Police is everywhere watching people , especially around the train station .
Unfortunately , I had to commute everyday using the train station.
One day , I saw some school students threw plastic bottle from the train station stairs down to the taxis parking , it seems kids are learning from their dodgy parents.

Don't ever think of bring your kids their.

If you have bought an unit and Mt Druitt is close to your workplace, you would get mad one day. Depending on your luck, you will see rubbish at your balcony from time to time. A few months ago, a few teenagers threw a plastic bottle towards the back of an Asian woman.

"Scary Kids, Nice Mall"

I would never recommend bringing up kids in this area unless they attend a really good private school.

When travelling in public transport with kids from the different schools the difference is clear. You have the foul mouthed, fare evaders who tend to bully others. Doesn't surprise me that domestic violence is also high in this area. Kids are learning from their parents.

And if you raise a kid there, don't allow them to take public transport. The influence from the foul mouthed ill behaved kids could rub off on them.

The Dawson Mall area attracts all kinds of people that attract police attention. Unfortunately it's the thoroughfare to the Westfield mall.

The mall is nice and has pocket friendly fashion. I enjoy going there.

I've never been to the older side of Mount Druitt so can't comment.

Plumpton would be a better option to live in.

I do not live in Mt Druitt, but I worked there for a few years, and was brought into contact with some of the so-called worst offenders in the area. I do not agree that it is all that bad. There is a real village atmosphere about it. People all know each other and say hello. The people in the shops are friendly and down to earth. People seem to look out for each other.

Really friendly area. When I moved in the Neighbors all came over and said hello. My Chinese brought me moon cakes as it was the time of Chinese New year. I love the fact that there is an express train to the CBD of sydney at the time taken is about 35 minutes. Or around 15 minutes on the train to Parramatta.

The area has a vibrant Arts Scene. Similar to areas like Newtown but without the expensive prices.

There is great take away food shops around the suburb - Chinese food aplenty, Lebanese Style Charcoal Chicken and some amazing Abdul's Lebanese.

Awesome Parks around to cycle, jog and play with the kids.

Theres some great pubs nearby.

The area has everything.

I like in Mount Druitt and have never had issues with public transport (trains) and I use them everyday to and from work. There has been a strong police presence in the community especially the last few months and nearly everyday they are patrolling the station and constantly around. I have also found them very quick to respond and never had any issues. Please bare in mind there is a large population which is growing of working families in this area and I believe the 'social housing' areas are diminishing as the prices of houses and rent in this geographical area rise. There are always children playing on my street and it is completely safe. Neighbours are all friendly as well. I have never had any issues with this area and definitely would recommend it even with its patent reputation. (Just my opinion from actually living in Mount Druitt).

I don't disagree with all the comments here. The truth of the matter is Mount Druitt sucks. But I learned to love the place. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Mount Druitt population has boomed since I moved here in 1998. There's a lot of change that happened since then. Many people from other subburbs do their weekly shopping here because food especially is cheaper. I can call this place multicultural because mostly migrants live here. I wish they did build the housing commission complex here because now so many trouble makers hanging around creating nuisance.

"One of the surviving examples of the Australian Dream"

I have lived in Dharruk for fifteen years. While Mount Druitt has many issues associated with lower socio-economic status suburbs such as crime - property offences, robberies, vandalism, and drug offences, it is one of the last example of the quickly vanishing Australian Dream.

I have wonderful neighbours which are courteous easy to get along with. I have never had an issue with any of them. I live in an area where the house on the quarter acre block is still the norm, and those houses have been occupied by the current occupants for decades which creates a positive community spirit.

Being a lower socio-economic suburb, Mount Druitt is not safe at night, and this is especially true at public transport sites, at choke-points, and in parks, especially around high-density housing estates.

That said, most of the Mount Druitt residents regardless of their educational background are very reasonable people, and despite the vulgarity of some, the community still resembles the days when the quarter acre block, the house, the car, and the dog, all were the norms of daily life.

This however is changing, and not necessarily for the better. Council incompetence, greed and/or corruption has allowed an unfortunate trend of increasing the population density without a corresponding increase in infrastructure. Many houses are being torn down and replaced by apartment buildings, and this has had a very detrimental effect over the last decade.

Road infrastructure is at capacity, and only getting worse. The worst examples of the 5pm rush hour of last decade is now the 3pm norm. The new higher population density areas are transient and do not have the same spirit or engagement as that of the original area, and there is a very large increase in the refugee population. This population while neither good or bad, does not seem to want to integrate. They form their own separate micro-community within the community.

Community services and access are top notch and far better than areas such as Botany, Parramatta, or Westmead, and rivaled by Penrith, and exceeded only by the Hawkesbury.

Mount Druitt Police deserve a special mention. They really are a top bunch of people who are doing a very difficult job, and have made, and continue to make this area a better place. Contrary to popular belief, they are held in quite high regard in the Druitt.

All in all, Mount Druitt is a far better place to live for those who still like driving motor vehicles, prefer local pubs over nightclubs, prefer houses to apartments, appreciate the mullet, and still hold to the ideals of yesteryear.

"Shalvey - Not What it Used To Be"

I have lived in this area for over 25 years. I have had one break-in, in all that time. My son/daughter went to Shalvey P.S. - my son was DUX, my daughter came 3rd. He is now an executive for a large US company.

You get what you give living here. There are pockets of imbeciles, but like any suburb, 99%, just go about their day to day activities. People are friendly, they like to chat - a 30 minute walk around the block, usually takes 60, by the time you ask, and they ask, how you/they have been.

I have no complaints - I live well, have a nice home, nice neighbours, and when I retire for that beach house, will have fond memories.

Wanted to look for an investment property in that area, as rental returns seem decent. Check out the local shopping centre and drove around the suburb as a visitor, seems okay (haven't seen it at night though). Although I notice no kids are playing outside and everyone seems to lock themselves indoors on a Sat afternoon, which is probably not the best signs, but I find it acceptable.

"12yrs in Mt Druitt"

I've lived her for 12yrs and I love this place. It's cheap and affordable. Only 45mins away from city, airport and beaches. Great public transport. Over the 12yrs I've been here I have never once experienced any negative outcomes. Of course you hear the odd arguments, people yelling profanities and witness some fights amongst people but you can see and hear that anywhere. My kids go to a great local primary school, Dawson Public School. But I will be spending the money to make sure they get the best high school education that we can afford. There are great high schools here and we will be sending our kids to the one that we think will better them for the future. We have worked hard to have what we have, to provide everything for our kids. It not the place that makes you but what you make of yourself. I've wondered the streets plenty at night and have never been robbed, assaulted or raped. Having said all this I grew up in the Bronx in NZ and know how to handle myself and how to stay safe. Fight for your rights, fight to keep you and your family safe, fight when it is deemed necessary. At least if you lose you put up a fight and no one could say you're a pussy for laying down and taking it.
Mt Druitt a great place to be. You can earn good money, buy a lovely house, shop for things that cost twice as much in the city, get to the lovely places of Sydney in good time, there are so many pro's about being in mounty that I just can't write it all. I've noticed we as a suburb have been on the news a lot over the last few months but don't be dishearten about what your read or see as you can get that anywhere in any suburb, rich or poor.

I owned a unit in Hythe St Mt Druitt for 3 years, renovated it and sold it for much more then i spent on it. In the 3 years i was there although i kept to myself and spoke to no one, I was still threatened constantly just because my only language i speak is English. Police respond quickly and work hard to keep the area safe but there is only so much they can do. Kids dont play in the street, they scream profanities, throw rocks at cars passing by, steal your mail, light your letterbox and bin on fire, key your car, kick a ball at your car, ask you for money or smokes, scream at you for not providing money or smokes and so on. Mt Druitt has bad traffic, people in Mt Druitt have absolutely no ability or skill behind the wheel of a car as they have spent the manority of there life driving in Australia a posed to filz, china, tokyo and lebanon. there is nothing nice to say about mt druitt other then the houses are cheap. before i moved to mt druitt i had no understanding of drugs or how to break into a car, only 3 years living there and i am still shocked with some of the tools used to enter cars and can name every drug out there. i also witnessed a shooting. good luck if you move to mt druitt. I can only beg you to keep clear of the area, it is not safe at all. You will be chased through a park, you will be mugged at the train station, you will be a victim of road rage, you will witness a murder. dont think im joking, because i am serious.

I enjoy this area - I grew up in the SHIRE and ok, Mt Druitt doesn't have beaches nearby but I love the people and accessibility to everything. All areas have a good and bad side to them and Mt Druitt is no different. I have been here for 12 years now and have absolutely no problem whatsoever.

"Not as bad as the stigma attached to it..."

I have owned a business in Mt Druitt for the last 11yrs without issue. Being a trades based business, we deal with all personalities from all walks of life. We opened our business from scratch and have grown into a very reputable business not only in the area, but are recognised statewide and even country wide in our field of expertise.
We also deal with the 'problematic' kids that come from the local schools who wish to undertake work experience in the hope of obtaining an apprenticeship. These local kids that are out 'running a muck' are actually good workers and are very productive when kept busy and it seems to be the kids from the same school that lack the mannerism and education you would expect from an adolescent. The school is not directly in the mt druitt city but rather on the outskirts of the extended suburb. Most of these kids come from single parent families which they cannot be blamed for.
Our customer base comes from both in and out of the area. Our customer base from within the area are actually extremely easy to deal with and have become close aqaintances to us. They never haggle over the price after the job is done like people do from many 'more expensive' areas and are always happy with a good job done. They have a higher expendable income than most would think and it shows by the amount of infrustructure and the amount of money the government is putting into the area. One thing the west has over the city is undeveloped land which most big businesses are taking advantage of. Larger companies are now investing in the area such as Metcash, Arnotts even Sydney International Dragway etc and the new Wet n Wild water park which is due to start construction later this year.
Mt Druitt is in amongst all this which can only mean one thing, house prices to rise....
It may not be the most desireable suburb in Sydney, but chances are,it would make the best investment.

Great for

  • Larger businesses are moving into the area
  • M4 & M7 is within easy access
  • In the middle of 2 major cities Parramatta & Penrith
  • Affordable

Not great for

  • Houses with a low income appearance
  • Dept of housing (which in time will need to move due to higher demand in Sydney)

"Old Mt Druitt Friendly place to live"

I've lived in Old Mt Druitt (the Highway side of Mt Druitt) for over 14 years and we love where we live. It's a short walk to the train station with express trains to the city for hubby's work, and easy access to the M4, Great western Highway and M7 for my work and the weekend.

There are plenty of different shop at the local Westfield and other shopping centres or 10mins to Blacktown or Penrith.

We live in a small street near a good primary school with very friendly neighbours. Of course not all are neighbours are the best but I can't control who lives near me and only how I interact with them. There are modern parks near by for the kids and some pub and clubs to meet up with friends.

My main concern is the lack of quality public high schools close by but i have a few years to ponder this further.

"Mount Druitt"

Mount Druitt is a well serviced suburb with a mixture of public and private primary as well as high schools located either in or near the suburb.
There is a large shopping centre (Westfields) which has a variety of shops and is undergoing an upgrade with cafes and outdoor eating areas to be located above the shopping centre.
This is in addition to smaller pockets of shops located around the suburb (remember Mount Druitt is a very large suburb that encompasses smaller satellite suburbs like Whalan, Hebersham, Emerton).
There are bus services connecting residents residing in the geographically spread out suburban parts of the suburb as well as a train station with trains that take you direct into the CBD or west up the Blue Mountains.
The neighbouring suburb of Rooty Hill is home to West HQ, which includes the RSL Club, Sport Medicine Centre, Novotel Hotel and the brand new Sydney Coliseum Theatre.
Sydney Zoo is also located in the nearby suburb of Bungarribee.
Overall, the well serviced nature of Mount Druitt and is central location between Sydney and the Blue Mountains makes it an ideal suburb for singles, couples and individuals wishing to have easy accessibility to everything at a more affordable price in comparison to other Sydney suburbs.

"Not so bad but not great"

I've lived here a while now. Its not a bad investment if your thinking of buying. Its one of the few realistically priced suburbs left in Sydney. That is why i live here. It's a quiet place but elements of its famous past sadly still remain. Better policing around the train station, a more responsive council cleanup service, or enforced fines for dumping outside of your home, and a street sweeper would do wonders for this community. There is also a lot of car crime in cretin pockets of the community.

At the end of the day it has its problems like all outer western suburban communities do with the added benefit of that sinking feeling when someone asks where you live, and the blank stare you typicality get as a response. If you can get over that then Mt Druitt is a perfectly fine community, one of the few places worth buying in western Sydney

When I was looking for buying a property I was scared at first place to buy here due to its past reputation. However, I had couple of my friends already living here for a long time. They built my confidence that there is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WRONG here. I then decided to buy here and now I strongly feel that all those scary feelings were just WRONG. This is a great place to live and totally affordable. My neighbourhood is very nice. Crowd here is the same as any other crowd in any other suburb. People complaint about risky Nightlife. If you decide to go out during night, risk is always there in any suburb. I find this suburb as safe as any other suburb in Sydney. Great Life Style and A Great Place To Live...

"Like all ex Housing Commission suburbs, you wont be able to afford to live here in years to come."

Mount Druitt is a suburb ready to prosper.
After years of Housing Department stigma & no employment nearby, big firms are moving to Walgrove rd, Erskine Park & Minchinbury.
Which suburb is the most affordable near these locations?
Correct! Mount Druitt & its smaller suburbs within.
So if you favour lifestyle, over the status symbol of a Mac Mansion with no backyard for a family BBQ, Mount druitt is it.
In other words you prefer to live in a modest home, have a nice boat, car, motorcycle & without a hefty mortgage- and actually have the time & money to utilise these things with your family & friends.

With Sydney in lockdown gridlock, from Blacktown to the Sydney CBD, big companies with a vast array of occupations around the clock are heading further west. Take the plunge, ignore the knockers & enjoy life, without a half million dollar mortgage.

Ok the stats are rubbish. I'll go with the word of a dude called TrumpyJeff on the internet over the NSW Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research. Either lucky or lying I guess.

sarah_jane

Geez Jeff, we understand you're love for Mt druitt but notice how you're the only person defending you're wonderful suburb? Now that could mean one of 2 things, either you're Mount druitt neighbours are too busy queuing up at centrelink or they are on there way to steal you're computer. Either way we have all had to many bad experiences with the lovable mt druitt suburb and feel the need to warn others of potential dangers. congratulations for being the only person living in mt druitt to have not been robbed or to have witnessed a robbery.
i lived in the area for 4 years and had my house broken into 6 times. we realised that our wonderful neighbours watched when we went to work and climbed through our roof to steal all our stuff. We went to the police and the next day found our puppy had been killed and layed on my letterbox for my 2 year old daughter to see when she got out of the car. the next day we moved. consider yourself one of the lucky ones.

TRUMPYJEFF

Sarah_jane. Sorry to hear of your 4 yrs of hell in Mt Druitt.

All of my neighbours are employed, the ones that dont are elderly & probably do deal with centrelink- but not in the stereotypical/Ivory Tower way you implied, but as old age pensioners.

Luck really has/had nothing to do with living a good life here, primary school/highschool etc.
Grew up in Hebersham & had my bicycle stolen!OH GOD!!!, lived in a cheap flat on woodstock ave to save for a house (2000-2005) & finally bought a house in Lethbridge Park (2005- Present).

The dog on your letterbox was a message, obviously a neighbourhood dispute the rest of the world know nothing about, but you've upset someone & have made out that you're an innocent victim.
Criminals generally just take things & leave asap to pawn items. They wouldnt bother with the puppy. (Maybe it yapped all bloody day!!!!!!!)

So all neighbours, on both sides & across the road did nothing whilst someone broke into your home (6 times) & killed your puppy & strung it over your letter box???????????

More to the story I think sarah............My neighbours sign for parcels, clear junk mail whilst we were away, I mowed their lawn whilst they were away.........Mount Druitt isnt perfect, but it certainly is a good place if you treat people with the respect you expect from others, regardless of their financial status, religion, race.

offgreenfx

Mate, Trumpy you are lucky. Lethbridge park and Mt Druitt in general on the housing commission side is Australia's closest thing to the Bronx. For you to even suggest that a puppy yapping would be reason to murder it and string it over a letterbox has pretty much summed up why you are comfortable in the piece of hell you live in, because you understand and appreciate there warped way of thinking.

Old Mount Druitt isn't too bad really, but either way this area is extremely cheap for a reason. It's rubbish.

TRUMPYJEFF

Funny man Paul87, all the shootings in Sydney have happened in suburbs I personally wouldnt reside in due to inflated house prices. One could own two homes in mount druitt for the price of a "ganglands" drive by shooting house in Guildford or Merrylands. The "houso people" in my street have wonderful homes & gardens, even sweep their gutters after they mow the lawn. Re: the puppy, if you think outside the square..............these things dont happen to innocent people. You & your family/friends have obviously had a bad experience or driven thru these parts & have been threatened by someone whom you think is below you in status & therefore have an axe to grind via degrading me via keyboard warriorism. Good luck to you & your family in your current utopia, where the sun always shines, apples & pears grow on council strips & unicorns frolic. Regards jeff

offgreenfx

Trumpy, you are getting to hung up over this and jumping to conclusions. You aren't a real estate agent are you?

I am not from Mount Druitt, I've never been threatened in Mount Druitt and I have known decent people who have moved to Old Mount Druitt because they cannot afford any better. That's fine. I do however know a bad suburb when I see one, and I've spent enough time in Shalvey, Lethbridge Park, Bidwill, Whalan and Willmot to know that I would not want half the people that live there as my neighbours.

I live in Blackwall (In Between Woy Woy and Umina) on the Central Coast. If you knew that area you would know I'm not a snob. This area has a lot of people that are moving here from Mount Druitt as the rental prices are similar (Not house prices but rentals) and they can afford to keep there bludging ways of life and live near water. I also know what a large percentage of these so called "Human Beings" that have moved up here are bringing with them. Over the last 10 years the crime here is only getting worse, the drinking problems and vandalism skyrocketing because of these people.

Talk to anyone on the Central Coast and you will get a similar story. We see what the wonderful Mount Druitt lifestyle is doing to our otherwise beautiful areas and it disgusts me. Mount Druitt is a breeding ground for rubbish. Of course half the people are probably wonderful, but when there is 50% of the population that Darwins theory should have taken care of and/or should be in jail there is a serious problem.

offgreenfx

By the way I never mentioned gangland shootings in my post. I can see you have a history of responding to things that aren't mentioned, from a post below. Merrylands, Guildford etc, is a whole other world of rubbish. Those suburbs are cultural segregation gone wrong. I don't think many people who aren't of a typical race or religion would even contemplate living in those particular areas, so I won't even touch on that.

Nicky5

TRUMPYJEFF- I find it sick that you feel you can justify the murder of an innocent puppy. I was actually considering Mount Druitt but after reading all this I will pass.. thanks for the warnings!

JohnSmith1234
JohnSmith1234

I love how TRUMPYJEFF keeps trying to justify the killing of the puppy as deserved payback for something sarah_jane must've done wrong. How very reassuring that the good citizens of Mt Druitt only cruelly murder puppies when they have a 'legitimate' grievance!

"A silent success story, plagued by a past reputation that still continues to stick today"

Mount druitt is one of the safest, friendliest suburbs in Sydney,
yes we do have crime like anywhere else but our crime rate is low compared to many other suburbs in New South Wales thanks to the pro-active policing done by what could be described as the best police in the country to turn a suburb which was described once as a " no go zone " to what it is today.
As with anything a bad reputation sticks like mud and Mount Druitt is a great testamont to this.
I wont go in to detail but some of the reviews on the area on here are comical at best from either the unluckiest people in the world or people who simply have not been to the area and are just trying to fuel it's previous bad reputation along.
Most people who live in the area are blue collar workers, along with some white collar workers as well.
A lot of young families have moved here due to cheaper house prices due to the misconseption of the area and have taken up sensibly priced mortgages for the first home owner.

To sum up Mount Druitt honestly,
fair priced houses in a friendly community within about 30 mins from the city and beaches by car ( about 60 by train ) ,a huge assortment of public and catholic schools, excellent reliable public transport, almost unlimited shopping centres both large and small, fast food restaurants, above average law and order, well above average medical and dental, close to Blue Mountains, eastern creek raceway, proposed wet and wild water world, and many other attractions, close to the M7 and M4 motorways, there's simply not much more you can ask from a suburb.

Too much time on their hands equals trouble.
I come from a "broken family" had real love & care.............
stereotyping & tarring all with one brush makes me "wild"........
Im quite sure there are good teens from "sub suburbs", which will one day evolve & may help you in one way or another.......be it the supermarket checkout, repairing your vehicle, fixing your PC to write stuff on realestate.com.au or an operating table saving you or a relative's life.

"A small suburb"

Mount Druitt is not the place for elderly, the young teenagers are horrible and the education isn't good at all, so if you live there children should go to school out of area. There is lots of thefts in Mount Druitt, this isn't the best place for couples, for the couples aren't well treated. The children at night do drag racing, so you have to live on a more quiet street, with a dead end, a place were no drag racing would take place. This is so at night you wouldn't hear the car engine and car screeches while going to sleep. Although this place is really affordable to live, you have to be very selective on which streets you live in, not to close to the school, not on a busy road, nice neighbors, etc. If you choose a nice street and house you should be able to live nicely, and affordably.

"Definately an untapped investment resource"

You might have noticed the little blue boxes I filled in - some of them come up as average and others as excellent, yet I've given Mount Druitt overall 5 stars.

Why is this so?

Well, Mount Druitt is far from a 'perfect' suburb, and to be honest, to buy a place to LIVE in, you could do much better.

But, as an investment suburb, if cash-flow positive and immediate yield make your eyes widen, then read on...

Do some basic research on this site; look at what units are going for and compare it with rental rates in the 'Rent' section, you'll see that it adds up on paper!

Now for the negative... I'd think that buying houses with the ambition to build capital over time might be a little fruitless, as land values remain quite flat over time, but i think for units and maybe villas/townhouses, it's a great investment suburb.

It's well connected for transport, shopping, schools and work. Yes there are some undesirables there, but this won't be forever. Increasingly young families are moving in, reducing crime rates as the housing commission and unsavoury types are moved further outwards/onwards.

Worth a look in my book....

"Really good for first home buyers, young families, suburb growing strong!"

Moved to OLd Mount Druitt 5 years ago and in the last three years has seen alot of changes all for the better. Many houses are being built and there are many knockdown rebuilds because of low property prices.

Area is now predominantly young families and older residents. Most own or privately rent. Rent and home prices are growing as developments and new apartments are going in. Train station was refurbished and transport is easily accesible and safe.

All mod cons, mobile, internet etc have excellent coverage.
There is alot of disposable income in this area and local Westfield is a bit of a Mecca for low prices and great deals.
Our neighbours are very friendly, one was a groomsman in our wedding!! Have had very good experiences with local people, friendly and there is no snobbery at all.
Schools in this area are very good. Colyton PS which is in Old Mount Druitt was built in 1800's and is very well reputed. High schools in this area do well academically but are seen as a bit rough still as they accept from neighbouring areas that are problematic.
Old Mount Druitt is definitely the area that you would choose property in, the suburb Mount Druitt holds many sub-suburbs like Shalvey, Bidwell, Lethbridge Park that I would not recommend living in. The train lines separates the housing that is private to many government housing and old apartment complexes.

I do agree with a lot of what you say but take offence to your comments about surrounding suburbs,
I live in the home I have purchased in Lethbridge Park ( the southern end ) and we have great neighbours and have found it to be a great community to live in compared to many other suburbs,
We have a couple of great schools, great public transport if we need it and have found everybody to be helpful.
Apart from that I agree with you.

Lethbridge Park home owner/resident for over 6yrs, never use our house alarm. Never had a problem anywhere. Employment is abundant via Minchinbury/Erskine Park/Walgrove rd/Dunheved industrial estates. Life is good here, neighbours are better than family, homes & gardens are neat & tidy. Every home has a minimum of two vehicles & every second a boat aswell........maybe Im from the only good street. People in "Old Mount Druitt" do look down on people over the tracks "sub suburbs" Whalan/Lethbridge Park/Shalvey etc, as do Minchinbury people over the highway look down on Old Mount Druitt.................Dont judge anywhere until you live there, home is where the heart is & what you make of it.........Campbelltown area cops the same abuse & stigma, but is a nice place to live aswell. Unruly tenants, is a realestate screening/monitoring failure not a whole suburb's. Theres been shootings in well heeled Greystanes/Guildford etc......maybe they went from a sub suburb in Mount Druitt & Campbelltown to shoot each other there............jeezus. I got asked for 2 or 3 dollars by a fella @ gladesville the other day.........different classes everywhere, even in upper class "old Mount Druitt" near the squash courts old matey. Real classy there.......

To both 2770 and TrumpyJeff, I am happy to retract my statement of Lethbridge Park :) It has, like most suburbs..good and bad streets and I have met some really lovely, house-proud, respectable people that live there.
TrumpyJeff, while I appreciate your thoughts and pride in your life and values, to constantly comment and defend every statement ( and some points that weren't actually mentioned!!) does seem to come across as both unnecessary and is in fact more detrimental to your stance than if you clicked the helpful button instead. Every suburb has good and bad points but to react so strongly to the negative comments just makes those that criticise Mount Druitt more convinced they are correct.
Having said all that, I am still living in Mount Druitt...have all my teeth, my children are well-mannered and respectful, both my husband and myself work and neither of us have been robbed or stolen anything :)

cmatt, great to hear,
Shalvey & Bidwill cop it more than Lethbridge Park & have their ugly sides & nice streets aswell-

my brother lives in Eaglevale with his wife & two children, owns his home-,
both he & his partner work.
He actually works in the mines in Western Australia, 4 weeks on & 1 off & earns more than some can imagine. His suburb gets battered via the uninformed aswell.............same deal as myself in Lethbridge Park- lovely street, awesome neighbours, schools etc............

Someone has to defend the defenceless......all negative hype does, is elevate the messenger.

The police station & hospital are set to be upgraded & with the recent addition of a courthouse, Mount Druitt is becoming a "city", equal to Blacktown & eventually will rival Penrith.

I remember as a child 7yrs, going to Mount Druitt Town Hall to see movies (next to recently refurbished Old Mt Druitt Pub).
We walked from Hebersham & you had to set your chairs up before the film.(a car in those days was a luxury, yes my parents worked & were proud owners of a new "landcom" single brick house in Hebersham.), I remember a double feature of Star Wars/You Cant Stop The Music(Village People)........There's a hoyts @ westfields with 3 or 4 cinemas thesedays.
So "the Druitt" went from Rural, to Landcom, to Housing Department, to now............very busy & thriving. Full of dole bludgers??? Try & find parking @ westfields.......!!
Dole bludgers rarely own a vehicle $$$$$$$ & wouldnt have much to spend @ westfields.
I suppose everyone needs someone beneath them or they eventually "kick the dog" to raise their self worth/esteem........
Kind regards Jeff

Moved to Lethbridge Park from Cabramatta in 1969. I was 8 years old, parents not yet 30. Most of the houses in the street were still being built when we moved in. Place smelt like fresh cut timber, and the most popular tool was the rotary hoe. No footpaths, just mud. Bowman's bus service for our neck of the woods, Rowe's went round Whalan into Mt Druitt. Shalvey High was a swimming hole, no Wilmot, no Bidwill, no Hebersham, no Emerton. Rode the pushie down Jersey Road out to Plumpton, mostly bush. No Cedars Tavern back then.

The less possessed, the more giving's esteemed. If you weren't there you can't judge, but you can stereotype. Every suburb has its salt of the earth and its deadbeats. I can assure you the salt of the earth in Mt Druitt will be of the very same generation accused of creating it's 'celebrated past'!
