"The Perfect Spot"

The ideal location for anyone of any age. Amazing shops, incredible food, public transport and Adelaide Oval are all within walking distance. The CBD is just a stone's throw away.

You will not find a better spot in Adelaide. All this and still only ~20 minutes from the beach as well.

"A great"

A great suburb with plenty of amenities that range from restaurants to supermarkets. Daily commute is a breeze with the CBD just nearby. A great choice of accommodation for a home not too far away from the city but yet pleasantly cozy.

"Simply the Best!"

After living in North Adelaide from 1983 to 1999 and attending the North Adelaide Primary school I have watched this amazing suburb transform from height to height particularly in the last 5 years.
With the transformation of the old hotel "Oberoi" becoming the Apartment on Brougham" and all the amazing boutique pubs and restaurants thriving it really is a hive of activity.
With the redevelopment of Adelaide Oval under way this Suburb is only going up.

"North Adelaide - Lifestyle"

Where do I start, North Adelaide is a vibrant hub in one of Adelaide's most exclusive suburbs. I love going down Melbourne street to many of the cafe's and restaurants and experiencing the hospitality that is on offer. On the outskirts of the CBD this is one of my ***** star locations.

"A short stroll to the CBD"

Just a short walk to the city but why would you when there is some much on O'connell and Melbourne street. Cafes, supermarkets, specialty stores, pubs and resturants. Some of the most grandest homes in Adelaide. Would love to live in a beautiful old two story monster with manicured lawns and gardens, anyone know those 6 x lotto numbers!!!

"Very happy here"

I recently moved to upper North Adelaide from the CBD. I was worried I would miss being in the middle of everything. However, I love North Adelaide. It is incredibly beautiful in parts, with a large number of very old homes, but is still very accessible with a large student contingent as well. There is always something going on, lots of restaurants and stores, always someone extending or renovating, and still so close to everything. Everyone knows each other and it has a real small village feel - very happy with the decision to move after being here a year - we intend to be here for a long time to come.

"Wish I still lived here"

I spent a year living in North Adelaide with my young family. it had everything we could have hoped for.
Easy access to the city, across beautiful parks. great play areas for the kids, superb eating places on the doorstep, such as The Lion and The Store. Cibo's for a latte on the way to work. Safe streets, lovely housing, pool nearby, along with walks by the Torrens and only 20 mins from the beach or Adelaide Hills.
Would love to come back and live here.

"Perfect place to live except for one thing..."

As a student I was always slightly jealous of those lucky souls living in North Adelaide. Of course, there are student colleges and share houses here too - plenty of people did live here as a student. It is a gorgeous area that is not beyond anyone's means due to a wide range of accommodation, from mansions to studio flats.

It's true what everyone says about the lifestyle. It's fantastic to be within walking distance of the city and the Torrens, Festival Theatre, Zoo, Botanic Gardens etc etc, and lots of great cafes and restaurants, boutiques and bars right here in North Adelaide.

But now that I do actually live here I have discovered what, for me, is the fatal flaw. Something that wasn't here years ago. North Adelaide is now right under the flight path for Adelaide Airport and planes come through from early morning to late night, at the worst just five or ten minutes apart, close enough to block the sun in the window and throw a shadow over the place as they pass. Loud enough that you have to turn up the TV or rewind the DVD to get the bit of dialogue that you missed. We have a great outdoor space here but it's horrid to sit in with the planes passing all the time.

We feel like Darryl Kerrigan in The Casltle and keep saying to each other "Aaah The Serenity" to try and keep a sense of humour about it, but in reality we are now looking at the suburbs east of Adelaide where the same lifestyle can be had but without the flight path.

Having been living and working interstate for a decade and missed the change that brought the planes over North Adelaide, we discovered that there is little sympathy for residents from the wider Adelaide population. True, this is still one of the most affluent suburbs in Adelaide and people seem to think it's funny that millionaires have to put up with planes but the fact is, people who choose to buy close to the airport know they will have to put up with being under the flight path. I had never envisioned that lovely, leafy North Adelaide would come under the flight path and it has ruined it for me. Adelaide in general has a lovely outdoor climate. I suspect perhaps the place will become more affordable for students, as fewer people with bigger budgets will want to live here. No point having a lovely garden to sit or entertain in when you have to shout at people to be heard.

Thank you for your honest opinion you saved me a lot of trouble and expense. I only wish people that live in the suburb could be the only ones to comment, tired of people that don’t or haven’t even lived in the suburb having an opinion because it can give you a false sense of the suburb. Many many thanks

mhh

North Adelaide has always been under the flight path.

TL000

My partner and I moved in 2 months ago and we love the planes flying overhead. It's been like that as long as we can remember visiting North Adelaide so it wasn't a surprise for us. I think there's something nice about seeing the different kinds of aircraft zooming over. Plus the varied and plentiful bird life in North Adelaide is amazing... it more than makes up for the intermittent noise.

It's a nice area to live in.I don't know much about the local Primary School these days in that area though but when I was there from 1985 to 1989 with a few exceptions of some local people Most of the students were from Northern Suburbs whose parents wanted something a little better than what their local area can provide them so not all bad except for having to leave that place to go to St Andrews Walkerville Being an Atheist in those days made me very uncomfortable about the whole religious education lessons and weekly Church Services but that's another story of my life.We nearly bought a house not far from NAPS around the time I started Year 2 there but for unknown reason Getting My Father to sell up and get out from the shame that is Salisbury was harder than one can imagine.

nl3

I doubt land values will go down, unless perhaps the very south west corner of upper North Adelaide.

Flight noise largely is based on assessing decibels and a scheme of ANEF 20 - ANEF 35 is used (ANEF 35 being the worst) .

Most of upper North Adelaide, like Medindie, is ANEF 20 and the core flight path gets around 60-70 decibels of external noise (perhaps 80 on rare occasions), which drops down around a further 10 decibels further out. It is probably a bit of an issue at the moment because the airport has increased flight numbers without yet having largely cycled over of the various fleets being used, but fleet changeovers happen progressively and the next one (this year to 2022) will likely drop noise by around 8-10 decibels which will move a fair bit of upperNorth Adelaide entirely out of ANEF 20 - ie there will be no real airplane noise issue (in simple words - North Adelaide is largely at the end of the affected flight path and so when plains get quieter, which they do consistently every decade, it will fall out of the affected area).

robink7

I lived there 20 years ago, early 2000's it was in the flight path then. I found I got used to it. Maybe the curfews have changed? Looking to move back so thanks for your honest review

CathyC3

My mother's moved into a care place in North Adelaide, which means that we have spent a lot of time there lately. The planes are dreadful! As Fritzi says, you can't hear the TV for example, or talk. And that's inside. Outside must be a lot worse. I'm writing this at a time when presumably there are a lot less planes flying from the peak times pre COVID. If they return, then it'll be pretty awful.

I live here. Having lived in other Adelaide metro suburbs in the past (including 15 years in exclusive Medindie), I believe this is Adelaides ultimate lifestyle location. The beautifully kept abundant parklands, the large array of eateries, the friendly people, the closeness to the CBD and beaches, and the fact that values keep doubling every decade makes it a perfect place to live. I consider myself highly privileged to be living in North Adelaide .

"What can you say, possibly Adelaide's number 1 suburb"

Take a drive here and you will fall in love with the area, Adelaide's Cosmopolitan area.

Downside... you will need a large cheque book, however much smaller than Melbourne or Sydney and you will also have to take a ticket, line up in your sleeping bag outside the real estate agent to be in line to buy a home here, as this is where most people want to live!

It's a great area.O'Connell St serves many buses into town G10,222,224,225,226,228 AND 229 if you don't wish to drive just be careful not to accidentally catch the F or X services.Nice place to shop/do smaller things that don't involve going to one of the major malls elsewhere and though pricey. It's worth say the huge premium over say a Home in Elizabeth.

"I can't tell you how many times I've looked at moving here"

A little city in its own right just north of the central Adelaide. Beautiful tree lined streets are the hall mark of the area. Wide streets and plenty of parking.
With great cafes, restaurants and bars this is the young professional’s paradise. However, it doesn’t come cheap. There are plenty of apartments and units around but there are also a number of beautiful old houses and townhouses that the rest of Adelaide want to own all of which are expensive for what they are. But that is part of being so close to the city in an area that has everything.
Some of the best Adelaide nightspots are in North Adelaide so it does get busy on the weekends. However, somehow the streets surrounding O'Connell street remain quiet and peaceful.
If you want to see a movie, you can walk to the cinema. If you want to eat out, there are plenty of places to choose from including some of the best restaurants and cafes Adelaide has to offer.
There are plenty of places to walk through the surrounding parklands and you can have a round of golf if that is your thing.
There are plenty of hospitals close by if you ever need them. Perhaps as a result of rolling your ankle having a game of golf at either the public or private courses.
It is a short walk to the city or you can easily catch the bus. But why bother, everything you need and more is right here.

Who hasn't.My family almost bought a house there around the time I was in Year 2 at the local North Adelaide Primary School.167A Palmer Place to be exact and in 1985 that sold for $155,000 which is about the price of a nice Hi Spec Audi A6 OR BMW 5 Series today.Convenient to practically everything.today that house would be worth a cool $800,000 to a Million Dollars.

"Cosmpolitan living at its best"

North Adelaide is one of Adelaide’s most prestigious addresses, but is offers a range of styles and lifestyle options.

The full suite of accommodation options are there – whether you are a uni student, professional couple or family. There are grand houses around Brougham Place, Molesworth Street and Wellington Square. There are the executive townhouses lining Bagot Street and Archer Street, the designer Air apartments and renovated cottages of Dover Street. And then there are the apartments along Barton Terrace West and East, and the student accommodation of the university residential colleges such as St Marks, St Annes, Lincoln and Aquinas.

Just a stone’s throw from Adelaide, North Adelaide offers it all. O’Connell Street is the hub, with a huge range of supermarkets, shops and pubs. There is a 24 hour bakery, cinema complex, a selection of homewares stores and a gym.

There is a vast range of cafés and restaurants, representing a range of cuisines and cultures from Italian, Indian and Japanese to modern Australian, Thai and good old-fashioned pub food. New restaurants open every now and then, the most recent being the hugely successful Sparrow which
offers tapas, a la carte, delicious desserts and an interesting wine list.

Public transport to the Adelaide CBD is quick and easy, with frequent buses along both O’Connell Street and Jeffcott Street. Otherwise the CBD is just a casual 25 minute stroll.

There are local schools nearby including North Adelaide Primary, and also Wilderness (a private girl’s school) in neighbouring Medindie.

With so many options, North Adelaide is a great spot to be based for uni, renting or buying – whatever your lifestyle stage and budget.

Strange how you mention Wilderness (thats not in North Adelaide) and not Saint Dominics (which is).

Anyway yes North Adelaide is one of the best locations in Australia.

silverfoxoz

"(a private girl’s school) in neighbouring Medindie". Pretty clear.

Nicks

There are other schools that are closer, including a private girls high school right in North Adelaide - Saint Dominics. In fact the schools in the city are all as close or closer than Medindie. North Adelaide falls within the Adelaide City Council, making Adelaide High School - a good public school accessible. So in adding further value to the original post - there is a private school right in North Adelaide and there are more in the city too.

There is a great Golf course (the Adelaide Golf Links) in North Adelaide that forms part of the border of park lands around it. Also within this border of park lands is the Adelaide Aquatic Center (in North Adelaide) with swimming facilities.

Also not far out of the area for schooling is St Andrews in Walkerville.Alright it's three suburbs over but still handy.I would at all costs NOT Recommend North Adelaide Primary School for any parent(It's one of those places that Not even the Headmaster who ran St Peters College from 1978 to 1991 would suggest as my parents were to find out the hard way).I had a friend whose dad pulled his two daughters out halfway through Year 5 in 1989 to make a fresh start at Wilderness and though I haven't seen them in years I am sure it was the wisest decision their parents ever made.
