Is there a problem with mozzies on Russell Island? I am very allergic

Also. Is there any work on the island for a self Employed Carpenter. Does the Island have enough Tradies to meet demand?

I have built a couple houses on Russel, it is infested with Mossies and sandflies.
The sandflies are waaaaaay worse than mossies. If you are allergic and come out in big welts like me ... DO NOT GO THERE !!! you have been warned.
Great fishing and crabbing .... but thats it !!!
Its not your typical tropical island ..... being a chippy you will need to work on the mainland trust me .... and the travelling will bug you no end.
Sorry but you asked

Sure , it is exactly the same, so is McLeay island ( check that spelling ) and Lamb Island, frankly that little group of islands are surrounded by mud flats and mangrove swamps. There really are NO beaches to speak of. The homes I have built there were for weekend use or retirement. Most people still use Generators for their electricity .... at night you can hear them everywhere. Which part of the world are you in, I take it by your questions you are not from Qld, cos you would know about these Islands. Your initial questions about why the land is so cheap etc .... should put up a big red light ...... because for 90% of the population those places are not conducive to normal lifestyle. Outdoors you have to be covered in RID or some other repellant most of the time. Some people who have leather skin can handle the bugs and mossie bites. Most peeps cannot, they take one day trip out there to have a look around and its all over .... trust me lol

On Russell Island I keep the doors open during the winter months with not a single bug or mozzie/sandfly coming in, during the summer months as any bushy coastal QLD area there is mozzies, southern bushy areas have more than the north of the island, I dont know anyone who runs a generator here as there has been power on the whole island for many years as with the other SMB islands too

Thats a relief. Thanks.

There is plenty of mozzies here in summer as per the rest of the queensland coast, mostly in the late afternoon early evening nothing a bit of spray and some good screen doors doesnt fix, so if youve lived on the QLD coast all your life then its no big deal for the mozzies, if not then come prepared, there is 3 houses being built within 200 metres of my place at present, not sure of the rest of the island but I guess you would find some work here and then you might need to find some work on that bigger island as well.
