"Surfers Paradise, Home To The Best Beaches In The World"

Surfers Paradise, World renowned for it's wonderful beaches, with golden sand and welcoming atmosphere. The are loads of eating out and shopping options around Cavill Mall and the nightlife there is excellent. There is a significent amout of traffic since its the main city in the Gold Coast, Surfers Paradise is pretty safe in the morning but nightime is a different story. It's pretty clean and green and the parks are excellent. It's pretty hard to find a parking space on public holidays, due to the roads being busy it's mostly noisy in central Surfers Paradise but it is more quiet towards the outskirts of the city like Paradise Waters, Cronin Island, Chevron Island and Isle of Capri.

Great for

  • Great Shopping Options & Eating Out
  • Great Nightlife
  • Great Parks and Recreation Areas
  • Good beaches

  • Cost Of Living, Resale Value
  • Traffic, Noisy

My sister lives here, i stay with her every few months. The ambience from the city truly makes me feel alive. I cant wait to revisit soon.

The Northcliffe End of Surfers Paradise is absolutely gorgeous.

I hope to move there permanently in coming years.

"Changing Rapidly"

I have lived here for 10 years and wow has it changed. Give it another 5 years and the Luxury Real-estate market has well and truly taken over.

Just about every new project being built starts at the 3 million dollar mark for an apartment. So it will be interesting to see the empty tenancies that are slowly but surly filling throughout the city.

Not to mention the new ocean way path right along the front of the beach. The new and improved paradise Centre.

Amongst other new attractions.

Rentals in Surfers Paradise

"Great area in the daytime"

Like the title suggests, I enjoy Surfers very much during the day. It is very convenient as we live across the road from shops and Cavill Ave.

The weather is mostly beautiful. The night markets are a must try if you come here.

However, we've lived here for almost 2 years and the noise levels most nights of the week, but more so on weekends are ridiculous.

If it isn't hoons and people riding scooters up and down at late hours until 3AM, it will be the music blaring from bars and nightclubs as the young kids get drunk or bogans screaming in the street all night. Surfers is plagued by addicts and bogans, but I keep to myself when I go out.

There's obviously no concern for the residents. I already have sleeping problems and that makes it worse.

It is only a family environment until around 8pm, when you can already see drunks staggering down the Boulevard. I don't feel safe going out at night unless I am in a group.

The upside is that rent is reasonable depending where you go.

Everything is mostly within walking distance if you live in the centre of Surfers.

All together, it's a mixed bag for me. Hopefully I will move eventually but it's not all bad.

We used to live there. Though it's not so ideal for kids to live in this area, especially when you live in an apartment building, but it was great to have the best beaches just in short walk distance. Cavil Avenue full of different type of restaurants and shops and entertainment. Markets, Sand art and other entertaining events are organised very often.

"Budds Beach Hamlet in the middle of Surfers Paradise"

It's great living in the middle of the Gold Coast in the little gem called Budds Beach which is on the river in Surfers Paradise. Park the car after work and walk, tram or minimum uber fare to restaurants, movies, cafes, shopping areas on Chevron Island, Isle of Capri, Southport, Main Beach, Broadbeach etc. So handy, everything is on your doorstep including beautiful Surfers Beach and the Nerang River. Good little schools with Surfers and Broadbeach! Parklands like Broadwater and MacIntosh Island make it great for morning walks too...Love our lifestyle here!

"Excellent spot for a second home, but for the hoons and loud-mouthed drunks."

We have an apartment a couple of blocks along the beachfront from Cavill Avenue. We spend more than half our time here since the purchase in mid 2020. We have holidayed from Brisbane, many times for many years but normally keep clear of Surfers. As far as position, beach and amenities we are very happy and pleasantly surprised that we enjoy the cosmopolitanism and vibe of the town.
The main road that the trams run on, needs urgently updating as it has too many dodgy joints and empty shops and I think the repercussions of the virus might actually create a blessing in disguise.
Our only real complaint is the dreadful noise at times. Many days are very pleasant, environment wise, but too many hoons drive their noisy bikes and Ferraris round and round the streets, both day and night. They gun their motors from corner to corner so as to make the most noise possible. I have come to the conclusion that the local politicians and police think this adds to the atmosphere but I am sure they are dead wrong.
The other issue is the noise from drunks leaving the nightclubs at 3.00 am. Many wander the streets and for some reason, feel that shouting at one another is the right thing to do. No one wants to stop their reasonable enjoyment nor change the vibe in Surfers but I feel a little bit more low key policing could improve this place immensely, especially for families.

This post is spot on. If the politicians and police tried a little harder, this would be an excellent place to live. Of course, it is not everyone's cup of tea but with the exception of the low life drunks at 3.00am and the brain-dead hoons , it is a vibrant pleasant place.
I wrote to the local council rep about the hoons and drunks and was told it's part of the "ambience".
I found this site in the hope there may be a group of people interested in improving Surfers.

"Great attractions but local drivers are the worst in Australia"

Despite posted speed limits everyone drives between 15 and 20 % over speed limit and tailgating is ongoing around every corner. If you intend to hire a car make sure you take out the extra insurance to reduce your premium. Also a dash cam will help if required.

"If you can handle the lively atmosphere, it's a pretty good place to live."

My partner & I have been living in Surfers for about 5 years now, & have found it to be a pretty good place to be, for the most part. We find the cosmopolitan atmosphere it has, along with the convenience of the extended trading hours of many of the businesses & restaurants, along with the close proximity to the tram line &, thus, to many of the conveniences of other places along that, & even to Brisbane (& beyond), now the heavy rail link-up at Helensvale has been built. I'm really looking forward to the Southern extension of the tram line down to Burleigh, now that's definitely happening, in the near future. For us, the positive factors have proven worth enduring the drawbacks mentioned by many of the other reviewers.

Of course, there's the hustle & bustle of traffic, particularly around holiday time, & the rowdy, often alcohol-fueled, behaviour of some tourists, backpackers, & locals, but that's par for the course, we figure. For us, the pros outweigh the cons, but as with everything, your mileage may vary. There is a wide variance in quality of life, according to location - a building or block can be vastly different from that next door to it, something that makes finding a place to rent an interesting endeavour, particularly down the lower end of the rental market where we shop. It's pretty hit & miss. . . buyer, & especially renter, beware! Conduct your inspections thoroughly, & check online reviews, before choosing a place, especially if you're on a limited budget like we are. That said though, it's been worth the effort necessary, shopping around to find the right place, to gain the benefits of living in the heart of the Gold Coast.

Despite the central location though, one negative factor I've discovered is that, apart from the convenient tram line, the public transport is pretty bad if you have to take buses, especially to some places. It can be stressful having to factor in extended trip times, especially late at night or on weekends, long walks to or from bus stops, & multiple transfers between services. I'd highly advise doing your research if you plan on using public transport regularly, if you're going to be reliant upon buses in addition to catching the tram. It's something that's proven quite difficult for me, & I'd like to help others to avoid similar experiences if I can help it.

Feel free to hit me up if you've got any other questions about living here - I'm more than willing to give you a local's opinion.

Hi there. We are planning on buying a house on Admiralty Drive, Surfers Paradise/Paradise Waters. Is that a good location? We want to be where it is peaceful but still not too far from the action. Also, we have three kids, so hoping public transport to school won't be an issue. Any feedback would be appreciated. Sandra

Admiralty Drive is a nice part of the world. Its close but far enough away. Very close to Main Beach, Surfers and Southport for all the essentials like groceries etc. Be aware though, public transport isn't great on the GC, but depends where they will be going to school. Near Admiralty Drive there is the main drag which has buses and the light rail - pending school location transport might be fine.

"The Hub of the Gold Coast!"

Located at the center of the Gold Coast, theres no better place to find yourself living in than Surfers Paradise, a small town in Gold Coast, Queensland. As the name suggests, this piece of Paradise provides the perfect backdrop for all your Australian adventures.
urfers Paradise is a small tourist town in the heart of Gold Coast and serves as a hot vacation spot for Australians, and its no surprise why. With its breathtaking beach and plethora of nightlife options, Surfers has it all. Living in this tourist town gives you the best advantages. Youre the pro of public transportation. You secretly smile to yourself when someone asks you for directions. You know when Waxys Irish Pub has $2 steak night or $3 Budweiser and you absolutely never get near anyone trying to sell nightclub passes and youll know the best beach spots.

"Global Financial Crisis Takes its Toll,"

Hope you didnt buy property in the last 2 years in Surfers, you would have experienced a "correction", (Dramatic Drop) in Values, with no real sign that its slowing, I have been inspecting Real Estate in Surfers/Broadbeach over the last couple of weeks,(with a view to buy) and the stories are getting scarier by the day, Just look at Apartments for sale on this Real Estate site for evidence.
Apartments sold originally for 1 million plus being offered as low as $600,000, -not exactly a good investment! Has it gone as low as it can?The media say no, and the Real Estate Experts say yes. (surprise). Of course no-one really knows, but it would be brave Investor/Residential Buyer, to put their Hard-Earned Cash down at the moment, -Yes it will bounce back , but its not looking like its any time soon.
Surfers now enjoys a reputation for violent crime/hooliganism/drunken idiots/schoolies/rapes/traffic problems/noise at night , and drug abuse, -but do you know what.... its still has fantastic beaches, beautiful hinterland , and lots of things for families to do, just make sure your back in your accomodation when the sun goes down.
I used to bring my family here for holidays in the 70's and 80's it was just the best place in the world then.
I'll keep looking for the right place to buy, maybe it WILL be better in the future, (I hope so.)

"Surfers Paradise - Safe to go out at night??"

Hi everyone,

I definately have to start by saying the night life around Caval av is just not safe. If you bring your family to surfers paradise don't go out after 8pm especially during schoolies.

I have witnessed disturbing things happen at surfers paradise from clubs to the streets outside the clubs (brawls, drunken idiots).

Apart from this negative side, the beach is great and there are some night units for a holiday and views are also impressive .

Thanks :)

"Great location, prestigious properties but very congested during rush hour and weekends."

Chevron is a great location with a surprising village feel for somewhere so close to Surfers Paradise. There is a mix of property ranging from 70's apartment blocks that are in need of attention to multi million dollar waterfront mansions and units.

The centre of the island is filled with cafes and boutiques which can make getting a park difficult at the best of times. Traffic is very bad most of the time as there is only a two lane bridge at each end of the island to enter/exit from. This is also one of the main access points to Surfers.

Houses on and around the waterways are highly prized, however there are some beautiful duplex and apartment developments on the surrounding streets.

I just moved to chevron after living around the coast for 10 years... similar to when i lived in chirn park it has a great community and isolated feel, yet its right on the doorstep of surfers. I can walk to the centre of surfers quicker than it would normally take to find a car park in there !

The cafe's and pubs are good, a few tacky units around but i think it adds character... to much of the gold coast is rendered, and i cant stand fake !
I dont need to drive my car on the weekend... beers as i please and in the middle of everything !

I see my self staying around here for a very long time... its awesome !

"Great place to live"

Chevron Island has fantastic access to central Surfers to the east and Bundall to the west. Its position is A+ and it has a quiet, friendly, village atmosphere. Plenty of local shops, cafes, butchers, supermarkets etc. to choose from. Redevelopment and property values will surely increase as developers and people wanting to live there start to really see what a great place Chevron Island is. Close to everything, but feels like a world away. Through traffic can be an issue during peak hours but hopefully the council can sort that out, which I believe they are currently addressing.

"Chevron - nice, SOME cafes, and convenient IF you have a car!"

I'm clearly one of the very few residents of the Gold Coast that does NOT have a car and is thus restricted by public transport.

We moved to Chevron Island 2 years ago from Mermaid Beach, and while it does definitely have its strong points...

- Cafes
- Close to the heart of the Gold Coast (Surfers Paradise)
- Waterfront, prestige properties (mixed with a lot of run-down flats unfortunately)
- Quiet, village atmosphere

...there are also some negatives...

- Said cafes aren't that many, and tend to close very early (2pm-ish)

- The walk to Surfers Paradise isn't the most aesthetically pleasant. It's NOT 2-3 minutes unless you live almost at Surfers already (right ON the bridge). It takes me 10-15 minutes and I walk fairly briskly. The main street is lined with unattractive, old flats. Not the best first impression for visitors!

- There are 2 buses that service the island. They are both timetabled to come 2 minutes apart for some mysterious reason, and each comes either every 1-1.5 hours or less frequent, and that's when they're on time! VERY frustrating, especially when it's raining or boiling hot and you only want to go ONE stop into Surfers Paradise. You end up waiting way longer than it takes you to actually get there.

Moral of the story - if you have no car, are elderly or hard-of-walking, beware. Otherwise, it's a nice, village atmosphere.

Having lived in several areas of the Gold Coast and other prestige areas in Australia as well as Overseas in many countries, Chevron and Cronin Islands are clearly the best you will find anywhere. You have everything you need right here. Fantastic weather and the best beaches and boating in the world. It is very safe, friendly, clean and close to everything. The property values here are set to go much higher as the island is fully developed. Nearby Cronin Island is in my opinion the most exclusive island in Australia. "Surfers Paradise - Have you visited lately?"

So much has changed.

The Chevron Renaissance development, commencing in 2000 was the catalyst for the revival of Surfers Paradise.

Circle on Cavill raised the bar, now Hilton and Soul are poised to open the new chapter of the Gold Coasts glitter strip.

The Boulevard Tower of the colloquially-known 'Hilton' development and the first 40 levels of Soul will be completed late 2010. Each bringing with it an expanded selection of restaurant, dining and entertainment options to rival some of the best Australia has to offer.

The Surfers Paradise Foreshore redevelopment stage one ($25m) is well under way as is Juniper Group contribution to this project.

The Gold Coast Rapid Transit project has secured funding commitments totalling
AUD$949 million from three levels of government. 2014 should see the first of the Gold Coast Rapid Transit vehicles travelling the route (stage one) between Griffith University & Broadbeach.

Between the River and the Beach; Come visit the new Surfers Paradise.

Three blocks from Surfers Paradise Beach is the entrance to Isle of Capri.

Waterfront and dry living in the heart of Paradise, Isle of Capri offers an entry level home price of approximately $700,000. Many homes in the area have been either extensively remodelled or demolished and rebuilt to an enviable standard.

Home values in excess of $5m are not uncommon.

Considering investing or living in one of the greatest locations on the Gold Coast? Isle of Capri should be on the top of your list.

"Good Place to Invest"

I've owned a unit in Surfers for about 8 years. It's been the best investment I have ever made. Occupancy rates are excellent and the place is always alive with a cosmopolitan atmosphere. Great for night-life if you're young at heart. You can buy cheaply too, so great for first home buyers. Because there are always people around at all hours I've always felt safe. Occasionally you find drunks but that's in any part of the world that's a hub - you get all levels of society. There's lots to see and do and shopping's great.

Nova I agree. I have lived in Surfers since 2001. The seven properties I have purchased in Surfers Paradise in this time have all acheived very positive gains.

As the Hilton, Soul, Foreshore, Rapid Transit and other developments complete as well as the many other plans for the area over the next five years, Surfers Paradise will continue it's popularity amongth a diverse demographic.

A desirable location to holiday, swim, shop, work and continue as a growing residential and business location.

Hey Adam, I have done extremely well in property in this area, easy to get reliable tenants.

Over the years I have been involved the economy has really deversified there are many other industries besides just tourism and many more people deciding to make it home.

"Surfers Paradise..If this is Paradise then we are in big trouble!"

I lived in this apartment block Beachcomber and its way too noisy and in the so called ' scum triangle' of kinkabol, paradise(parasite) towers and beachcomber..you cant play tennis here without people abusing you and throwing things onto the tennis court from these hi rises..low rents equal low socio economic demographc ..you would not have kids here and its dangerous at night with all the nighclub drunks everywhere..another new problem is the so called 'party tours' which means that on any given night at any time you will have 200 drunks in a group going to billys beachhouse for a night out..the noise is yelling and smashing bottles till all hours.
I was going to buy a unit here but decided its a bad investment.
This is not a good place to live unless your a nightclub drunk or a bogan..then you will be in 'Paradise'!
The beach is good but now polluted compared to 10 years ago ..sand used to be a nice whitish color..now its a dark yellow and pollution pours from the drains and is visible to see from the hi rises.
anyway hopefully rising sea levels will wash it all away!

These places you refer are low rent. There are many well managed and high quality accommodation buildings in Surfers Paradise but if you choose the cheapest dont moan when you get what you paid for,.All beaches have storm water drains running into them, and as far as the party scene is concerned you will find this in any tourist area in the world.

This is a review of Surfers Paradise. 'surferssux' your review should be of Hanlan street if you would like to refer to the buildings of Beachcomber, Kinkabool and Paradise Towers (PT also on Surfers Paradise Blvd and Trickett St).

Yes these have among the cheapest rents in central Surfers Paradise. Surfers Paradise as a suburb includes streets to the north and south of the 'scum triangle' and the satellite suburbs known as Island of Capri, Paradise Island, Chevron Island and Paradise Waters.

I have lived in Surfers Paradise since 2001, a number of different areas and buildings. Invested in seven properties, apartments and houses, and am confident of the future of Surfers Paradise.

Soul, Hilton, Rapid Transit, Surfers Paradise Foreshore and much more that is planned for the next 5 years.

Surfers Paradise - See for yourself.

"Great place to visit - or retire."

I would love to be able to afford to retire to Surfers. There's a reason so many of Australia's elite move up here. Great beaches, great shopping, restaurants and golfing. Of course it has the tourist traps, what international tourist destination doesn't but overall a great place to call home.

And now it's getting an AFL team in 2011!

"Have to agree with Click Writer"

I read Click Writers review on Surfers Paradise and it really does tend to be the place you dread and hate to go and only go when forced by a friends birthday. Really the locals hate it to many holiday people running a muck.

Now Broad Beach is in the spotlight with clubs like Platinum or lounge bars like Koi where you can have a nice civilized an enjoyable night out.

"This place is the pits for investors"

Surfers Paradise is seen to be a glitzy glamouress suburb although underneath the underbelly of the heart of surfers lurks a vicious, violent and some times very serious dangerous situations. The area needs to be cleaned up in a big way. And these builders building cheap quality try to get maximum return and sell units way too over priced. I bought unit in surfers lost money terrible experience..will never look in surfers to buy or rent again. Like they say some like it some hate it!

"Chevron beach/city lifestyle"

Chevron Island is a vibrant inner city beach location. Only 2-3 minutes walk to nightlife in surfers paradise. One of the best places to live because Chevron Island is away from all the craziness of surfers and can still enjoy nice dinner or drink at bar on Chevron.

I highly recommend the fish and chip shop we use to nickname the place 'Frankies' as he is the owner of whom provides great food and excellent prices!

"Surfers Paradise - Good to visit once."

The Surfers Paradise is a popular tourist destination south of Brisbane and is famous worldwide for its beaches and theme parks. There is something for everyone at Surfers. Indulge in all manner of water sports; visit the many theme parks which offer great entertainment for the whole family. There are many tours and attractions to keep everyone occupier. Take tours into the hinterland and explore nature’s beauty. Accommodation is in abundance from backpackers to total resorts and everything in between. In recent years, property prices have risen dramatically with prices for apartments, town houses and family homes now as expensive as Brisbane City and in some cases higher. Rentals too have gone through the roof with the cost of living getting higher. Shopping though is in abundance with many malls and major centers. Places to eat are very varied with local and international cuisine of your choice.

"The Worst of Humanity"

Okay, so if you're off your head and unable to see straight then I could imagine that you'd like Surfers Paradise. Personally, I truly believe that it houses the worst that humanity has to offer. Disgusting behaviour, crappy tourist traps, dingy, dirty and dangerous. The best part about the place is the beach, but even then you have to watch out for syringes in the sand and people nicking your stuff while you swim. Yep, there's some excellent hotels in the area, some relatively okay retail opportunities (when you can find a shop that's not selling stuffed koalas in a can) and a bevvy of restaurants to choose from. All I'm saying is- enter at you own risk. It's not for the green or the faint hearted.

"The top tourist city in the southern hemisphere. So much on offer here."

Surfers Paradise is a place the the locals tend to avoid. It is a city that is very busy most of the year round and it attracts tourists from all around the globe.

This does tend to give it an unfriendly air most of the time. Sure, there is plenty to do and if you are with a group that is good, but people tend not to mix the same unless you hang out at bars and clubs.

Seaworld, Dreamworld, Movieworld and Wet 'N Wild all draw thousands into the area. These attractions are of world standard and each one are a day visit all on their own. There is no doubt that there is plenty do do when you visit the Gold Coast. No matter what age you are, you will find something to do on the coast if you decide to holiday here.

Accommodation is right along the beach in highrise apartments with fantastic views up and down the coast. On almost every corner and in between, there are restaurants, cafés and takeaways. Night clubs are very popular, but not without their problems. The night life is a bit sleezy, so one needs to take extra care.

Generally people living on the coast tend to live north and south of Surfers Paradise, or further back towards the hinterland.
