Oatley Park (in Oatley West), is a 45 hectare wonderland and one of the largest urban parks in Sydney. It is surrounded on three sides by the serene waterways of Saltpan Creek and the Georges and Woronora Rivers. It has miles of bike tracks and walking tracks (both on tarred surfaces and bush tracks that wind their way through lovely isolated areas of the park offering glorious views at every turn). There are three separate large play areas in the park: a large sporting oval at the top; a huge picnic area with children's play equipment at the centre of the Park and a lovely picnic area near the public swimming baths where there is electric BBQs on offer (for a small fee). Oatley Park is one of the oldest parks in Sydney (dedicated as a Park back in 1887) and still has the grand old historical sandstone "kiosk" intact (known as the castle). It no longer operates as a kiosk but is often used by locals as a wedding photo site because of its glorious views overlooking the Georges River from its rooftop. I can highly recommend the 1 hour walking hike that takes you along the waterfront track (from the rear entrance at Douglas Haig Street) right along (passed the swimming pool) towards the Peakhurst side of Oatley Park. At this end of the Park, the local council have installed a couple of large duck ponds and nice gardens and little bridges and walkways. Its a very pleasant walk winding through bush filled with parrots, kookaburras, cockatoos. It is a popular place on the weekend but during the week, you won't see anyone else on some of these little bush tracks. If you are worried about security, take a friend! Enjoy!
