Any suggestions on nice but affordable areas to live between Erskine Park and Sydney CBD?

My partner has been transferred to Erskine Park for work and I will be looking for work closer to Sydney CBD or possibly even Parramatta. Can anyone suggest any nice but affordable areas to live in between Erskine Park and the Sydney CBD. We are trying to come to a compromise with distance to travel to work but it's hard when you're not there! We have been looking at Homebush or Burwood? We will be looking to rent a 2 bedroom house/apartment/whatever for around $500pw max for 3 people. Any suggestions or advice would be much appreciated!!
