Bridgewater

"Bridgewater - Affordable, Safe & Friendly & only 20 minutes from Adelaide's CBD. Hills Living at it's Best!"

Town History of Bridgewater

Bridgewater Mill - Waterwheel

The village of Bridgewater came into existence in 1840 when an inn was built at the fording point where bullock teams crossed Cock's Creek. It was originally known as Cock's Creek. This became corrupted to Cox's Creek and when, in 1859, John Dunn - a miller - built his beautiful mill across the creek (it was powered by the huge waterwheel which is still such a distinctive part of the village) near the coach road through the hills, he changed the name to Bridgewater.

No one knows the exact origin because there was a bridge across the water at the time. However it is more likely that John Dunn, who had emigrated from the village of Bridgewater in Somerset, simply decided to name the fording point after his old home.

Today the village is a pleasant retreat from the heat of Adelaide. It has a distinctly English feel to it with pleasant European gardens and plenty of deciduous trees along the creek.

Upper Sturt

"Upper Sturt A Natural Beauty!"

Upper Sturt is a suburb in the inner south of Adelaide, South Australia. The suburb is nestled in the lower reaches of the Mount Lofty Ranges with the Western Half located in the City of Mitcham Local Government Area, and the eastern portion located in the Adelaide Hills Council Local Government Area.
Upper Sturt Primary School was founded in 1878.
There is a small cafe on the main road that also incorporates a general store. Next door to the general store is the Upper Sturt Country Fire Service station which is a volunteer fire organisation.
If your looking at getting back to nature with all it's beauty you can't go past Upper Sturt for a peaceful & serene living environment.
All the above and more while only being 5 minutes to Stirling shopping precinct & approximately 15 minutes to Adelaide's CBD.

Aldgate

"What to See & Do in Aldgate"

Aldgate abounds with good eateries, but more than that, it offers the visitor an array of crafts and fine arts that is hard to beat.

Aldgate has much to offer the tourist or day-tripper looking for something different in a day out in the Hills.

The main attraction in Aldgate is the Aldgate Pump Hotel which is known for its character, warmth and its pleasant restaurant with a fashionably wide range of beverages. It has been modernised and enhanced many times over the years but still has its 'old-day' charm.

Over the road from the Aldgate Pump Hotel is the 'Pump', plus the delightful 'General Store' - now a crafts shop - which dates from the early 1880's. It has changed hands and functions many times. At various points it has been a general store, a butcher's shop and, in the 1890's, the Hills Cash Store.
