"Stay away from this place!"

Drunkards and druggies everywhere......at the shops, at the station, etc.

Sunshine certainly doesn't live up to its name!

Sorry you seem to be contradicting yourself; in your post on Sydenham you said: "There is a bit of crime here; cars can be seen smashed at the station car park....but I suppose this sort of stuff is common in many suburbs" Huh? So crime at the Sydenham Station and other suburbs is 'common' but crime at Sunshine Station is "stay away". How does this make sense?

Matt_Costa

There just seems to be more in Sunshine...........just don't feel safe there!

So your comment comes down to a feeling...I think some people come from pretty sheltered backgrounds or read too much Herald Sun, watch too much a Current affair if they believe that any of Melbourne suburbs, incl Sunshine are that bad. I have experienced other western countries crime rates and they make your comments seem inaccurate. I have lived in Sunshine for years, and have never had any trouble or seen any trouble. With PSOs now at Sunshine station, a Station rebuild & upgrade, and upgrades to Sunshine CBD, these areas will look and 'feel' even better. Ironically, if you google Vic crime rates 2011, 'crimes against the person' are slightly higher in Sydenham than Sunshine. I think people should think before throwing stones, instead of running areas down and damaging their reputation and that of the families who live there.

Matt you could have said that to other suburbs as well. i don't know if you said it because you're a local in the area. I lived in Ringwood for more than a year and I did'n't feel safe there either. We moved to Sunshine because it was close to city and affordable.

Sydenham

"Excellent Suburb"

Sydenham is close to everything...there is Watergardens town centre/station, schools, gyms, medical centres....all these are either adjacent or within walking distance to each other. The station is staffed and the train ride is only 35 mins to the city. It is also about half an hour drive to the airport.

There is a bit of crime here; cars can be seen smashed at the station car park every now and then, broken bottles can also be seen on the footpath and grass....but I suppose this sort of stuff is common in many suburbs.

Overall, Sydenham is an excellent place to live and I highly recommend it for families.

Great for

  • Close to Train station and Shopping centre
  • Close to Childcare and schools

Who lives here?

  • Professionals
  • Families with kids

I cannot help but agree with Matt. Your comments are an accurate depiction of Sydenham. Council has taken steps to improve the parks in the suburb. Hopefully with the new PSOs petty crimes such as smashed car windows at the station will reduce.

strongly disagree with your comments and title: "Excellent Suburb" Matt_Costa. Almost everyone I know who lives in Sydenham has had their car broken into at the station. Two friends have had their house broken into! I always see litter scattered on the keilor melton highway and near Watergardens shopping complex representative of a third world country. Very depressing place to visit/drive through.

It is obvious that a 3rd world country does not even resemble what Sally_76 is implying of Watergardens. Trying living in one for a change....

I would suggest you re-read your comment which contains very, very poor grammar.
