Auburn

"Street Walker Gives Auburn The Thumbs Up"

I moved to Auburn in December 2011 (just before the state stamp duty for first home buyers finished) and like so many other people in Sydney I was very concerned about Auburn's reputation as an unpleasant place to live. Well, 8 months later I'm very pleased to report that my decision to buy a house here has been a happy one (so far, fingers crossed). I live approx 1 km (10 mins walk) from Auburn Central and I usually walk the streets of Auburn both during the day (weekends and holidays) and night (work days) regularly as part of my exercise. On most days I walk from Cumberland Road through to Parramatta Road and back (via Auburn Central and the railway station) and in all this time I have not witnessed a fight nor even heard raised voices in anger. The streets are not filthy as others have mentioned and are surprisingly clean considering the huge number of units within the 1km radius of Auburn Central. I also find that the people here are not rude, they are simply misunderstood. After all, they only want what most other Australians want - to raise their families and to give their children the same opportunities as everyone else. I don't live in a unit close to Auburn Central, so if I did, then maybe my opinion of Auburn would be slightly different. But I can say that I walk the streets of Auburn for an hour each day/night and have never felt unsafe.
