Port Melbourne

"Port Melbourne is one of the best suburbs in Australia"

Port Melbourne has it all. Anyone who has even visited Port Melbourne knows that it is one of the most desired places to live in all of Australia...and the reason is because of the fantastic lifestyle it offers.

In summer, the beach comes to life, and the nightclubs really get fired up. The Pier Hotel, Ocean Blue, Campari restaurant...all are fav's of mine. Bay Street has fantastic shops, and a simple walk along Beach Street on a sunny afternoon and you will be sold...this is the lifestyle everyone wants....and only some can afford. It's quite expensive to live here, but i still think you get value for money. You can get access to some affordable apartments, but forget the penthouse apartments, they all go for 1.5 mil plus.

Overall it's an amazing suburb to live in especially if you are young and single. The only downside is the noise at times from the traffic and the howling wind...but these are minor issues. If you can afford it, move to Port Melbourne.

Bridport St

"Perfect street - shopping, public transport and more!"

Bridport Street in Albert Park would have to be considered the lifeblood street in this iconic suburb. Anyone driving around on the weekend would be mad to miss this gorgeous street. Stop by here for a cake at Laurent, or a coffee in one of the cafe's and breakfast eateries.

I love this street, or at least the stretch of shops. Fantastic family feel and always a great place to resolve the hangover on weekends :) Albert Park Hotel is always great as well on Saturday nights, a must for all youngins who love to booze up.

Parking can be a pain, but well worth it!! You simply can't go wrong here on Bridport Street Albert Park.

Glover St

"A bit of a thoroughfare, but otherwise a very nice location."

Glover Street South Melbourne is a little bit of a thoroughfare for many drivers. Glover Street is quite pretty however with many green trees overhead, and the location is great as well being so close to major shopping areas such as Bay Street and Victoria Avenue. Most of the houses are weather board townhouses as well, so will suit most. Overall, very hard to fault.

Barrett Ln

"Shops, location and beach."

Barrett Lane Albert Park is a quite cosy little street with some very cute townhouses. Some great greenery, and great location as it so close to the beach, Victoria Avenue shops and Bridport Street cafe's.

Clifton Street

"Close to bars, pubs, public transport."

Just off Swan St in Richmond, there are some rather large old style homes here. It's one of the more attractive streets in this area of Richmond, with some large trees lining the pavement. Overall the location is fantastic being so close to Chapel St and Bridge Road...you can't go wrong!

Beaconsfield Parade

"What an amazing lifestyle this offers"

Beaconsfield Parade in Port Melbourne is about as good as it gets in terms of location. Considered to be one of the best strips in Melbourne, most of the apartment complexes and townhouses are all 1 million dollars and more. Although the strip is marred with high traffic, quite simply the location far outweights any negative aspects of living here.

Proximity to the beach is one of the best features with huge palm tress lining the street, and a huge plus for people living\renting on the strip. But moving on from the obvious is the proximity to fantastic restaurants, bars and shopping. The word that springs to mind when talking about Beaconsfield Parade is "Lifestyle". While some might not say it's the most practical place to live (mostly in terms of noise and traffic), it simply offers you the best lifestyle one can hope to have in Melbourne.

Imagine waking up to your oceanfront views, having breakfast on Bay Street at the local cafe, and then walking your dog on the beach in front of your house, accompanied with a swim and an ice cream...all within walking distance of your house. This is truly living.

Spenser Street

"Location is great...but location isn't everything."

Spenser St is in the heart of St Kilda, neighboring Renfrey Gardens and is extremely close to Luna Park and Acland Street. It's tough to get a better location than this...especially with the beach just a short stroll away.

However, location can be a curse with Saturday nights being very rowdy in the area. There are a number of rundown properties in the street, and occasionally there are homeless people in the area, mostly flowing in from acland street (not a major problem though)

If you are young, and like to be out and about on Saturday, and are looking for somewhere with great location that's meets your go go go lifestyle, then Spenser Street could be right up your alley...or street :)

Legon Street

"Legon Street...What a pain in the butt"

Legon Street in Port Melbourne is a small lane-way that to be perfectly honest is a real pain in the ass to navigate down. It is extremely narrow and is made of cobble stones instead of smooth concrete, and ALL the stones are uneven and is extremely bumpy. I would not be surprised is some of the houses are tear downs either.

I would not recommend living here at all, as the narrowness and poor quality of the street outweight any benefit of living close to the beach etc.

Wow! Such a tough review for a generally good area. Surely there are other things that are good about the area? What if you don't have a car and don't have to worry about driving down the narrow lane?

I love Port Melbourne, and I guess that's why I'm being so harsh on Legon Street. When looking at all the other streets in the area, it really does stand out as being poorly maintained, hard to navigate, and as I mentioned... a real pain in the butt!!!

The houses generally don't look nice either COMPARED to others in the area.

Sure the location is nice, but I guess when comparing it to other streets in Port Melbourne, this one really disappoints. I suppose comparing this street to one in Richmond, I might be nicer because the location would better in Legon Street, but overall, there are much much better places to live in Port Melbourne, that are well maintained.

Dow St

"Great location in central Port Melbourne"

Dow Street in Port Melbourne is a very wide street with great access to both Bay Street and Beach Street. There appears to be a certain level of gentrification occurring as well, with old townhouses being purchased and being done up. There still appears to be some bargains available in Dow Street with some of the townhouses clearly in need of some major renovation to catch up with some of the newly renovated ones.

Dow Street is very quiet with not much traffic, overall you can't go wrong with location!!
