Not really the street I want to live on. Good for apartment living and there a quite a few new developments going on. Street is very noisy as it goes to the freeway and a lot of traffic from Westfield shopping town (which is really a great shopping experience ... forget Chadstone). (hehe .... love the piano player in the foyer). A lot of shopping strips on Doncaster road ... peterol stations.

Summary: Cool for apartment living and shopping ...

Noisy street ... Tram lines are not separated from the cars (so you are not faster when you use public transport).. Only one lane as there is too much parking (not sure why there is aprking allowed in such a busy street). 60 speed limit compared to 40 on bridge road ... no idea why as there are also a lot of people on the street. Summary: no place where yiou want to live ...

But great restaurants when you like authentic asian food ...

Don't have a BBQ on a saturday afternoon there .. you might get a complain at 4pm that you are too loud. More elerdly people in the street (as no young family would be able to afford a house here).

Very nice street and ideally located. Lots of parking and very quiet (you can hear the train on the southern side). They build recently (2009) a new designer house in the street ... looks great but just does not suit the old victorian terrace houses.

Train and Tram are 3 min walk away ... (be aware that not all the trains stop at Hawthorn station and you might even need to change sometimes even if it is so close to the CBD) , also IGA supermarket, local pub and some restaurants. Bridge Road shops in Richmond are in walking distance (20min). A lot of parks around in the area.

My Internet connection (ADSL2) was ok ... but not really fast (around 7000).

Nice residential area ... but 750.000 for a little 2 bedroom house (2009) is far too much and no value for money (even so close to the CBD).

Amazing ... a suburb so close to the CBD and there are freestanding houses and nearly no high rise buildings. No wonder we have a housing shortage when such suburbs exist so close to the CBD. Also no wonder when they get really expensive (buying is impossible ... renting is expensive).

It is not much going on in East Melbourne. It is very quiet. And good public transport gets you quick to the CBD. Walking could be faster as it is so close. No bike paths at all ... as nearly everywhere in Melbourne.

A lot of Parks and the MCG are nearby (a lot of traffic also in the side streets when the footy is on ... ).

No shops and no big supermarkets ... (except small IGA or 7eleven and local milk bars).

Houses are all very well maintained and the suburb has a lot of character.

Love the street. Very quiet. But close to everything ...

Close to Jackson Court Shopping Center (also with bus stop) and Footy Oval (2 min walk) playgrounds, parks. (They want to build an Aldi supermarket there ... after Safeway. 2min to primary school and kindergarten ... what do you need more?

Only 2 traffic lights to the freeway ... which I hit after 1:20 min drive from Ross Street).

Fast Internet (ADSL 2+ with a 12000 connection ...).

Prices are still ok in the area ... and they start building a lot of nice Townhouses there (it gets more and more unaffordable to buy a own freestanding house ... but still possible). The street is very clean and well maintained gardens everywhere.

Moved recently to Doncaster East from Hawthorn and loved the area straight away. So close to everything. You have great shopping areas (Westfield Shopping town ... forget Chadstone :-), many local shopping strips and big supermarkets and surprisingly a lot of great restaurants (was really surprised). A lot of parkland ...

Ok ... not ideal for nightlife ... there you need to live in Richmond, St Kilda or CBD.. But it is the perfect spot for a couple or to raise kids.

Your are 15km-18km out of the city ... but the Eastern Freeway is great. I take 15 min to Richmond (not in rush hour) and around 25 min in rush hour. Works perfect for me. Downside: Doncaster East has no train or tram station. They planned it so many times (it was even in the 1966 train network plan as under construction ... but never happened ... there is pretyy good express bus to the city (own lane on freeway). On the other hand the pricing is pretty ok for Melbourne ... much cheaper than Box Hill or Blackburn ... it is just over the freeway and gets cheaper ... crazy world.
