Deer Park

"Never Again!"

Lived there for 7 years, worst place I've lived in. At night its common to hear sirens, on my street there were three drug busts, a lot of junkies live there and you do not feel safe 'just going for a walk'. They've extended Deer Park apparently the newer part is okay, seems nice. But cross those rail lines towards the old Deer Park and it just feels horrible. Hoons everywhere.

Great for

  • Newer estate is good.
  • Price is good to sell with due to proximity to the city.

Not great for

  • Nothing to do. Boring.

Werribee

"Not nearly as bad as some people describe it."

I moved to Werribee in 2006 in one of the newer estates. When I told people that I'm moving to Werribee a lot of people were saying things like "Oh my God, it's so dangerous there!", "It's whoop whoop from everywhere", "It's a farm!" etc... All of those were proven WRONG! I actually like Werribee, I've moved a lot throughout my life including various suburbs within Melbourne and even New South Wales and Queensland, I think Werribee is better than most of the places I've lived in. Especially with the location! Located halfway between Melbourne and Geelong you have the advantage when it comes to choice and variety. 30 minutes is all it takes and bang your in the middle of something big. Being classed as on the outskirts is also good, because you have the suburban lifestyle, yet its easy to get away from all the hustle and bustle and just go see what rural Victoria has to offer. Public transport was improved in 2009, by adding extra trains to the Werribee line which has trains every ten or so minutes on weekdays while other lines apart from Sandringham don't have that advantage and have trains every twenty minutes to half an hour. Werribee is pretty big there are plenty of primary schools around and three main high schools. Shopping is easy, you have Werribee plaza, Watton Street (also known as main street with the locals) and a few extra smaller shopping centres within the newer estates such as Tarneit and Wyndham Vale. Cafe's are not so great, the majority being on Watton Street, shut too early, have nothing really going on to make it stand out and grab the attention of people, they'd more likely end up on Lygon street in Carlton/Brunswick. Nightlife is a bit meh, you have Mynt Lounge on Watton street which is pretty good for a cheap night out and close to home and there is also Volt which is right at the plaza behind the tabaret. There are two main libraries, and plenty of parks and nature strips especially surrounding the Werribee river, and the open range zoo is towards Werribee south.. Furthermore, traffic isn't much of an issue, the freeway is great and the backroads will lead you to other western suburbs such as Melton, Deer Park, Laverton, Sunshine... etc... in no time :)

Great for

  • Great shopping, cafes and restaurants
  • Short trip between two cities - Melbourne & Geelong

Not great for

  • Not enough nightlife

Its crazy, Im in my 60s, and Werribee use to be a happy place, and now you cant walk around after 7 oclock at night," one resident told A Current Affair.

"You just try and lock your place up, have some dogs, have a bat by your door. Sounds crazy doesnt it, but you have to do it."

If you actually read the crime stats you will find Wyndham City (Werribee) has one of the lower crime rates in Victoria! For example, 4,702 criminal incidents per 100,000 people in Wyndham, compared to the City of Yarra (Fitzroy, Collingwood and Richmond) 11,283 per 100,000 people. Get you facts straight before you dish out on a suburb that is actually ok! https://www.crimestatistics.vic.gov.au/explore-crime-by-location

If you actually read the crime stats you will find that Werribee has far more crime offences than that of any other suburb in Wyndham, 4768 offences. Hoppers being second with 3132 offences, and more than doubling third (Point Cook, 2015 offences). Using Wyndhams crime statistics to represent Werribee is dumb. Especially since there are suburbs such as Williamslanding and Truganina that have very low crime rates.
