Mitchelton

"A well serviced suburb with a mix of housing types"

Drugs and Gang violence? I have no idea where this occurs in Mitchelton. This suburb is hardly the gritty back streets of Compton L.A or Upton, Baltimore. I've lived in Mitchy for eight years and have never directly experienced or witnessed anybody else being subjected to drugs and violence. I walk >1 KM to and from the train station each day and have done so for years without encountering anything unsavory.

Mitchelton is well serviced by many amenities, including

A functioning high street - not many suburbs in Brisbane have a dedicate high street. Mitchelton's is becoming more sophisticated with some lovely cafes, delis, hairdressers, medical and job finding businesses popping up
A medium sized shopping centre with free parking
Modern train and bus infrastructure with regular services
Easy access to the longest continuous bike path in Brisbane (Kedron Brook Bikeway)
A well run council library
Centrelink service centre
Good mix of public and private schools
A short drive to escape the city at Samford, Mt Glorious and Mt Nebo

The suburb has a great mix of housing types, units, townhouses, federation style, modern, post war cottages.

Minus 1 star because:

Samford Road can be very congested
Low level train crossings cause traffic delays
Some parts of Mitchelton are in a low frequency flight path (noise)
Army Barracks can cause local traffic issues
The public high school is not as well regarded as Ferny Grove and The Gap

Who lives here?

  • Professionals
  • Families with kids

I am glad I am not the only person who was surprised about the mention of drugs and gangs. Having been a resident of Mitchelton for nearly 7 years, I have never witnessed anything of the sort. Thanks for taking the time to write a detailed and balanced review.
