Ipswich

"Ipswich is great, we bought in Ipswich Central"

We moved to Ipswich central area from Brisbane. We moved because of house prices and proximity to Brisbane - we snapped up a beautiful old Queenslander (needs works) for under 300 k. We regularly walk to the ‘top of town’ for coffee (10 minutes walk from Our house - top of town is a historical area with old buildings that house shops/cafes) there are five excellent cafes we frequent and with the redevelopment of the main mall underway currently more shops/eats will be on offer shortly nearby. We can’t wait for the redevelopment to finish with new shops, restaurants/cafes and new cinema, it is really exciting. There are also heaps of beautiful pubs on offer here too - go no further then the Victorian TAFE building, over 100 years old and beautifully restored. Ipswich has so many historic buildings which have been saved, mostly because the developers kept away owing to the social-economic situation of the area. This is passing as Ipswich is gentrifying fast and house prices are going up. In relation to the scenery in the area it is stunning, for example in Sadliers Crossing there are stunning mountain views to scenic rim. There is a huge hospital here, beautiful historic parks live Queens Park for example, built in 1860’s and is truely like an old English park you would see in London, has a free zoo to boot and a traditional Japanese garden built with assistance from Council’s sister city in Japan. Overall, Ipswich has surprised us, heaps of services, friendly people (you know your neighbours here, so weird at first for us coming from Brisbane - but really nice), we have never had a crime issue here - I think that it may have in the past, but not recently, as it has significantly changed.
