Merrylands

"Good for the Money"

If I could live somewhere better I would but I can't and so Merrylands does nicely. It has good shops is a quick commute to the city (35 mins on the train) has plenty of parklands and is close to Parramatta so has good work and entertainment options.
The negatives are there is a lot of rubbish dumping and Council cannot seem to control this, also there are a lot of hoon drivers who do not care that there might be kids or elderly about-also poorly contolled. There seems to be too much development of flats with little thought of the impact on surrounds and often beautiful old houses are destroyed to make way for this-again a Council matter.
Merrylands is also very multicultural so there is a lot of diversity about and it appears to be a very tolerant area-not mch racial strife, which is good. I was at Cronulla today and saw everywhere posters for a White Australia Party which were a bit disconcerting-not a good look!!

Great for

  • Central
  • Affordable
  • Parklands

Not great for

  • Too much dumping of rubbish
  • Too many units

Who lives here?

  • Professionals
  • Families with kids
  • Retirees

I agree about the tolerance of diversity. Even though there are many different cultures living there, there is cultural harmony in the suburb. The council and the police need to do more to improve the status of the suburb.

Good review and I agree with it. I've lived in the area for over 10 years. Its getting worse. Over development and the streets are very dirty. Cars everywhere.
