Mossman

"Mossman is AWESOME"

What to say about Mossman, You will have the Lovers and the Haters, But me I am a lover. It is my home town for one. Born and Bred. (although I do not live there at the moment, but can't wait to again) It is a Town where the children still use the street lights as to when they need to head home. There is the beautiful Mossman Gorge, with its Croc free swiming holes and walking tracks. There is heaps of sports for the kids and 15 mins from Port Douglas Where you can wine and dine of maybe have a few drinks at the Ironbar. Only an hour from Cairns (and for those of you who groan and say "An Hour" It is a beautiful drive and if you dont want to drive then there is the Coral coaches Bus service that runs throughout the day and into the night as well as the Quicksilver cat that can take you and/or bring you back to Port Douglas. Mossman is a Quiet country town, that yes is slowly growing but it will always be friendly and beautiful. Oh and the Sugar mill makes chocolate as well, that is a major bonus there LOL.

Great for

  • The Great Barrier reef and Daintree Rainforest on your Door step.
  • Country lifestyle whilst only an hour from Cairns
  • 15 mins from Port Douglas

We are a family of 4 adults mum, dad in mid 50s and kids early 20s and 30. Looking for a sea change get away from crazy city life freezing winters and hot dry summers. Tho need work if we move there, looking for community spirit, old fashioned vaues of help thy neighbors kind of place. Tho snakes, bugs crocs worry me lol. Is there work there? And what recommendations would you give to South Aussie family who are wanting to move there.

Woodford

"Friendly Country Town"

I have lived in Woodford for a little over 3 years and writing this review due to a few comments made about the town I know call home. Woodford is generally a friendly quiet country town. For a small town there are 5 Take Away places! I don't know what these comments are about but there are 2 places that sell fish/chips/burgers etc, Eagle Boys, a Chinese takeout and now we have Subway as well. There are 4 cafe's, a pub, a childcare centre a school, a preschool, an early learning centre, medical centre, police station, 3 churches, parks, a fitness centre and Yoga shed, bowls club, golf club, 2 shops etc. For a small town Woodford has a lot, certainly more than most small towns including a small industrial area. Granted there is no petrol station , but god forbid you have to drive 4 km to D'aguilar, a far cry less than many people have to drive from their houses to find a petrol station. If you think prices are expensive then try living in somewhere else. I live for 8 years in a town where 8 years ago petrol there was already $1.39/l and rent for a a 3 bedroom house was min $450 a week. It is all well and good to moan and groan about things but seriously Woodford is a great town that offers great things to its residents. The crime here is minimal contrary to what someone stated in an earlier comment. The person who was whinning about have 3 police officers here would have been the same person whinning that there is never a copper when you need one. Those police officers cover a large area and also provide services such as Blue light discos for the children. There is a lack of public transport although there is a bus that runs from Kilcoy to Caboolture and back a few times a day.

Great for

  • 5 Take Away Shops
  • There are 2 grocery stores (take your pick)
  • Fitness Centre
  • Great Pub
  • Tourist friendly
  • Jallas Cafe for food and live music
  • Fantastic Festivals
  • Great specialty shops

Not great for

  • Lack of Public Transport

And another review that is combative and inaccurate. People arent able to have their own opinions and experiences in Woodford Qld without being chastised and called a whinger.
