Reviews of Wantirna, VIC

29th November 2023

"Wantirna presents exciting opportunities for buyers, sellers, and investors."

Wantirna is bounded by Dandenong Creek and is close enough to the city to be a very convenient location. There are several parks and reserves located in the locale with a number having access to bike tracks, BBQ facilities, sports clubs and playgrounds. Wantirna’s proximity to all amenities and services provides an exceptional lifestyle for a large diverse group of families. With four local Primary Schools, Wantirna Secondary College, Swinburne University of Technology and easy access to Studfield Shops, Wantirna Mall and the newly renovated Westfield Knox, life is easy going in this leafy suburb. The City of Knox has always held a vision to improve local infrastructure; most recently the Knox Private Hospital had a major overhaul, Wantirna College had new facilities built, and the local parklands have been well maintained. In conclusion, Wantirna is a suburb that offers a great lifestyle, with its rich culture, convenient location, and abundance of amenities. It provides a safe and inclusive community, excellent education and healthcare facilities, and a variety of recreational opportunities. With its growing population, investment prospects, and future developments, Wantirna presents exciting opportunities for buyers, sellers, and investors.

"Quiet, safe, spacious"

We have lived in Wantirna for a few months now and are finding it okay. It is lovely and quiet, spacious, and safe for families. However, be prepared to drive everywhere to get around. It lacks the charm and character of the inner suburbs, and feels very far away from the city! But is perfectly fine as an area otherwise.

"The price of developers"

Wantirna (Regency Park) was a lovely leafy suburb with kindergartens, primary and secondary schools within walking distance. This was how the suburb was designed. Sadly there has been an influx of developers who are razing block after block, with ugly buildings including several stories, being built. The home gardens are gone with houses being built fence to fence and units being squeezed in inappropriately on a block. The neighbours I have lived with for 40 years are all but gone and there is no security anymore. Shame on the Knox Council allowing these developments. Knox City Shopping Centre is appalling, it used to be a social hub but it is just a shadow of its former self.

"A Great Place To Live"

Having worked in the Wantirna area for more than a decade, I have seen it transform and become what it is today! Its a great convenient place to live, located within close proximity to Westfield Knox, East Link Freeway and some great schools such as Wantirna Secondary College and The Knox School. Overall its a great suburb to live and work.

"it is nice if you like driving or long walks"

it is green, it has mountain views and it certainly has lots of open spaces. it feels safe and family-oriented as well.
However, it is not gentle on your car because it is hilly, with the speed limit as 80 it means you need to drive fast on hilly areas.
Also, even if there are really awesome shopping centres around like Eastland / Westfield knox, I generally find parking a hassle in public holidays/weekends. some shopping courts are not free for parking either.
My friends and I met some really rude people that stole our parking spot while honking us at the same time.
I would say it is overall a very habitable suburb. I do think they need more free parking closer to Ringwood station though

Another down side is that I find it colder in winter time than other suburbs-possibly because of the mountain. I mainly concluded this because it takes longer for my car to defrost.

"Great suburb, convenient location"

Close enough to the city to be convenient and get there in a timely manner, yet far enough to not be congested with traffic.
Having lived in the area my entire life, I have been able to experience and enjoy everything that Wantirna has to offer.
Very safe suburb with a lot to offer including great education and sporting clubs within the area.

"A very meh place"

Look its not bad but its got nothing that stands out as great. The houses are of that era that are a bit tacky and the cafes are alright but nothing special. I have got 2 young kids and im currently looking at schools and im not hearing great things. The walk along the creek is nice although ive been advised not to do it at night. Knox westfield is pretty good and is about to have a big reno so hopefully that might provide a few more decent dining/cafe options.

"Perfect balance"

This is a lovely suburb with so much to offer. Located close to the Eastlink freeway, you are close to most shopping complexes and makes the suburb very accessible. There are plenty of schools, parks, walking tracks and cafes which is perfect for family living.

The average rental income is between - $450 - $500 for a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom property

"Best hidden area in Eastern suburb!"

Used to live in Doncaster and moved into Wantirna a few years ago and I am very satisfied with everything.
Nice friendly neighbours, good small schools, two big shopping centres (Westfield Knox will be the biggest one in Australia), close to the eastern freeway etc. If you are looking for good area to live in or an investment in Eastern suburb, I highly recommend Wantirna!

"I Love This Place"

Wantirna is a great suburb; close access to major roads making it an ease drive anywhere in Melbourne.
The schools are very good and there are multiple options to choose from such as public, private & catholic.
There are great and well maintained parks and ovals through out the suburb as well as many gyms to choose from including Goodlife which has tennis courts, gym, childcare and womens only section.
Restaurants are coming good - there are the cinemas and entertainment complex at Knox Shopping centre. The strip shops in the area also have good restaurants; and there are many more popping up such as King Bean Wantirna Mall as the area begins to change to the younger couples/families.
I seriously love this suburb and wouldn't live anywhere else!

Wantirna Mall shopping strip is currently being renovated, which will add even more appeal to the suburb.

I used to love Wantirna, but after spending time up northern NSW i think the lifestyle there is so much better, it's so dull in Melbourne, Black, grey, etc. up North for me soon..

"No good for public transports..."

I used to live in Wantirna as I was youngest. The neighbours wasn't very friendly and they never say hello when I walked on the street as I say hi to them. My favourite thing is Milk bar, because the owners really lovely and very friendly only in this town. Unfortuantely, they dont have access to close to the train station so you have to catch a bus to take you to stations even you really like to exercise to walk the station! The child care really wonderful since I was little! Now, I visited recently, it seems going downhill and I wish they could be improves back as I used to be little girl.

Public transport is not that bad - there's an extensive bus network linking to more than one station, and also to the tram close by in Vermont South. There is strong community support for the tramline to be extended to Knox City, so this may be a future possibility.
Stations, mostly in adjoining suburbs not too far away include Bayswater, Ringwood, Mitcham, Boronia, Glen Waverley.
It is still a very friendly and community-minded area, with attractive homes and great facilities - maybe you should revisit?

Hi, I am apologise for relaying late. Sorry that I was being sound like...skeptical. By the way, I actually visited there recently. It seems all bit better than these in the 90s, I guess. Depend on where you live on the street, some neighbours were friendly as well :) Yeah, I heard about improving service for access public transport in extended areas of outer eastern melbourne. I lived there for just 5 years. I grew up in west suburb in Melbourne for 15 years . Honestly, Wantirna really beautiful greeny landscape than in west suburb. Thank you for all your understanding, have a lovely day! :)

It is so close to everything you could want.
I live in a court, and have done for 33 years, it's quiet, the neighbours are friendly, it's green and leafy, and it is so open and you aren't living on top of the house next door..

"I live on Mountain Highway - Its good"

I like living in a unit complex due to the low noise and nice neighbours. The tennis court lights behind us can be a hassel as they are not always turned off at night. Though you do get an endless supply of tennis balls. So thats a plus. Unless you get hit by one...

The area is great to get to knox shopping center or just up the road from burwood 24hr kmart and coles. Also a 24hr Maccas is down the road. The local post office is the newsagent in the wantirna mall. They are open early in the day and I find it easier to use them then an actual Australia post outlet. Some really great Thai, Indian and fish n chip food really close by.

Transport isnt the greatest but I drive less then 10 mins to Heatherdale train station (HEAPS of parking) and catch the train from there. Its a breeze!!

The actual units are good. There is a thick brick wall seperating the neighbours so we rarely hear any sounds from the attached unit.

Parking can be a hassel as some units have up to 4 people living there, each with their own car. So I wouldnt really say there is much 'visitor' parking... But there have been no complaints from parking in imaginative ways (and I have never had an issue with someone being inconsiderate and parking me in) .

Their are bike pathways very close to the complex. I am very unfit and it takes me approx 40mins to ride to the train station. So anyone who's average fitness should take 20 - 30 mins. Its a lovely ride on bike paths and only 1 or 2 actual road crossings.

The local Trash and Treasure market is on every sunday within walking distance. Its really great to go to for junk and fresh fruit and veg. I love getting my weekly flowers for a bargin price!!

I think Wantirna has a great balance of city and country aspects that make it a really great place to live. I would recommend familys and quiet type of people live here. This is not the place the party hard. Its the place to have peace and quiet with everything close to hand.
