Planning to buy a house in Williamstown, is it a good time & a good decision?

We are a young couple of Indian origin and looking to live in Williamstown. Hoping to live with the community and enjoy the breathtaking sights. Since CBD is so close, couldn't think of a more ideal location. Only glitch is that the property prices are past 1MM :(
Is it a good time to buy? Worth the money? Neighbourhood is safe and kid friendly?

Personally, I don’t rate Williamstown well particularly for the prices it attracts. I’ve never understood the appeal, it has bad transport links. I am quite familiar with nearby Yarraville, check it out as an alternative. Go for a visit and check out Anderson street and The Sun Theatre.

Bad transport links??? Are you for real? It has a dedicated train line with three train stations. It is also served by various busses and is only 15 min from the city by car. Williamstown house prices are higher than yarravilles because it is on the water and has much more space to move in. The streets are wider and the house blocks are generally much bigger. Yarraville has character but is very congested and difficult to move freely in the main part of town.
