Hi Guys, My family and I are emigrating to Adelaide in the next few months.

We are after some advice on the areas we should be looking at. We have a 1yr old and would like to live in a nice peaceful area that is roughly 15-30 mins drive away from the CBD
After some details of the best suburbs to live in. We shall be renting initially, with a budget of upto $650 per week

I like Colonel Light Gardens and Cumberland Park (south of the city). They're about 15 mins from the city and are reasonably quiet, with nice wide streets and lots of trees/greenery.

Tusmore is a lovely suburb (east of the city) - I lived there for a year. It's a suburb that is more upmarket, but your budget would be fine for that area I would think. It's definitely quiet and would be a nice spot to raise your baby.

I agree with MLange's suggestions. Another thing to keep in mind is Adelaide has a fantastic coastline. Henley Beach is an upmarket suburb 9km west of the city centre. It has spectacular sunsets, a vibrant atmosphere and nice eateries. I was swimming there early one evening, and some dolphins swam past only 50 metres out from shore, which was an experience to remember. The inner southern suburbs are green, leafy and upmarket, as are the eastern suburbs between Magill Road and Cross Road. The Adelaide hills towns of Stirling and Aldgate would be very nice places to raise your baby, and they're only 20 minutes drive from the city centre. If you plan to school your child in Adelaide, look into schools before deciding whereabouts to live. There are 'catchment areas' for the public schools. There is tough competition to get into the best public schools, so it is worth moving to the catchment area of the school you want to send your child to. As far as private schools go, the elite ones have such long waiting lists that people pre-register their one year olds.
Other things to check are that you don't end up living in Adelaide's flight path (inner western suburbs). Public transport information (bus/train/tram timetables and maps) is available at www.adelaidemetro.com.au
