Dependant on what exactly you are after with regards to other hobbies and your cultural tastes there are (in my opinion) two areas that you would enjoy:

1st area is the Athelstone, Highbury, Tea Tree Gully and Banksia Park area which is located northeast of the city. This area is very close to tea tree gully shopping centre which is a large shopping precinct and easy access. Being in this area you are also 15-20 minutes from the city centre and have linear park walking trails and living close (or within) the foothills of Adelaide.

2nd area is Eden Hills, Blackwood and Flagstaff Hill area which is located south of the city. This area is close to Marion shopping centre which is one of the largest shopping precincts in Adelaide. You will also be very close to several walking trails being again, close to the foothills and a stones throw away from many of Adelaide's beaches as well.

Two beautiful groupings of places to live in Adelaide and having lived in both of these areas and experienced both shopping centres often, it should scratch your shopping itch.
