Best cafes in Port Melbourne - for breakfast?

Hello,

It is sort of a weekly ritual of mine to go down to Port Melbourne and have a big breakfast to kick start the weekend. My favourite cafe is called Cafe Zest in Port Melbourne, underneath the Marine apartment complex. They make the best coffee, and not only do they have great breakfast but do a fantastic lunch menu as well. I found this link in case anyone is interested:

I was wondering if anyone else here does this sort of weekly ritual? I love it, makes me feel incredibly relaxed and is a great start to the weekend. Where do you go for brekky on weekends?

Hi holmist, I LOVE Port Melbourne myself. I've been to Cafe Zest a number of times as well and do really like it as well. My fav's are out in Templestowe (Degani's Cafe in Templestowe is my "local"), but if I find any in the Port Melbourne area, Ill be sure to let you know.

Welcome aboard by the way!!

Hi,

Thought I would share one of my favourites.

I love going to Mart 130 Cafe - Middle Park Light Rail, 107a Canterbury Rd, Middle Park. Here I'm sure you'll find the best scrambled eggs, the coffee is one of the best I have ever had, and the service is just right. Great place to sit out on the deck overlooking the park. Lunch is also a real treat.

I believe they can do functions also!

Hi guys,

I had another breakfast at Degani's in Templestowe, I still think they are the best. Extremely friendly, great food, and GREAT coffee. Always a pleasure down in Anderson Street.

Hey Brian,

What's a traditional Japanese breakfast? I don't think it's bacon and eggs is it?

Fairfield Boathouse . The scones are amazing, the boathouse breakfast is a good old fashioned bacon, eggs, sausages and grilled tomato served with crusty bread .You won't need to eat anything more for the whole day ! And the view is magical. One of my favorite spots in Melbourne !

The traditional Japanese breakfast at Cibi is a plate of salmon, rice and vegetables with miso soup.

@DArgy ahh yes, Fairfield Boathouse is a great place in Summer and even Spring, but in Winter its a little too cold for my taste. I've never had breakfast there though, only lunch. It's a very picturesque place.

Believe me AJ its just as wonderful in Winter . They have a woodfire heater and they have see through blinds closing the deck all around. Go and you will not be disappointed . In Winter its only opened weekends.

The Velvet Bar has awesome huge brekkies. Indoor and outdoor dining area and very popular on the weekends. I recommend any of their "open" omelettes. Yum.

Oh yes Holmist, I totally agree with you on Zest in Port Melbourne, one of the best. Although I'm not a big fan of the big potato hash things they have with the breakfasts.

There's a really nice smaller cafe on Swan Street in Richmond I go to quite a bit, but I can't remember the name of it, have to check the name out next time I'm there.

Japanese breakfast... a good change, would certainly try that. Love the baked beans on toast at Babka on Brunswick Street. Also, the ricotta hot cakes at Cafe Apte on Heidelberg Road. DArgy, agree that Fairfield Boat house is a great spot. You may like Studley Park boat house as well.

I love heading up to Camberwell Market on a Sunday, and then nicking across to Grandma Funks in Richmond, on Swan Street near the corner of Church Street. If you get to Camberwell by 7-7.30, you can beat the morning rush both there and at Grandmas. A great, refreshing start to the day off - and back home by 10!

I'm really enjoying The Little Ox on New St in Elwood - it's crazy busy in a Saturday morning, but if you're lucky enough to score a table the food will not disappoint!

Hi guys,

I have another one to add to the list morning. Over the weekend I went to a very nice little cafe\restaurant called Nacional. It's located on Mills Street in Albert Park and does an amazing breakfast. It also has a nice little wine bar attached as well, so if you get the chance, check it out.

Here's the website http://nacional.com.au/

'edit - I got mixed up about Provincia (for those who got the email alert), but Provincia is awesome as well, great veal pasta ragu :)'
