"Perfect for all ages!"

I love the vibe of living in a coastal town! So family friendly, close to beach, great food , schools and shopping! The city is only a 15 minute commute! Our street is so quiet and all the neighbours are amazing!

Looking for a home in Blackmans Bay?

"Views to die for at any time of the day"

We moved to Blackmans Bay three years ago and can truly say this suburb has been the most enjoyable spot to live. The views are nothing short of spectacular and our neighbours are the best we've ever encountered.

"Perfect for young and old"

We moved to blackmans bay from interstate with our young family and were joined by my mother who also moved to the area. It is a dream come true, it is a beautiful location and people are friendly. It's quiet and very safe, close to shops and a good local public primary school . Lifestyle wise it is great to have the beach at your doorstep. Blackmans Bay is definately 5 stars.

"Best views in Hobart, spectacular lifestyle, easy commute"

Moved here from inner city Brisbane 12 months ago. This is an incredible place to call home. Lovely quiet, friendly community which is a stone's throw from Hobart (15 min commute). I spent a year looking at suburbs every weekend (rural and inner) within 40 mins of Hobart. This ticks the most boxes for me. You can have the best views of open ocean/Ironpot Lighthouse/the Tasman Peninsula cliffs, down-river to Hobart AND the mountain. Plenty of sun throughout the day (VERY important).Great little beach in summer, local amenities within a 5 min walk (supermarket/bottleo/post office etc.) and major chain stores/pubs and sporting facilities 5 mins drive away in Kingston. Excellent Primary School down the road. Fibre to the premises internet of course. Not much nightlife, but why would you want to live near that? That's what Uber is for. This is a horrendously underrated suburb (in comparison to somewhere like Sandy Bay, where we decided not to purchase). It has all the best aspects of suburban living (i.e. amenities) while feeling like you are on the cusp of nature. Of course, You should aim to stretch and purchase a property which maximises the suburb's best attributes to secure the best long term growth. After significant due diligence, I feel extremely confident recommending this suburb. Note: If you want a 100 year old, fixer-upper 'character home' to empty your wallet into, you will be disappointed. If you want something relatively modern, well built and insulated, You will have options.

"Mirramar Park to be avoided at all costs"

If you like constantly barking dogs, loud music, car horns and alarms than this area is for you.
Mirramar park is home to the most arrogant, annoying people you might ever come across in your life,
the locals seem tone deaf to dog barks, they are too lazy to get out of their cars so they sit in the drive and beep until
they get the attention they are looking for.
great area for the hearing impaired..

Rentals in Blackmans Bay

"beautiful"

We moved here 13 years ago and couldn't be happier. Easy 15 minute drive to Hobart. In summer we love to go to The Beaches restaurant a nice easy stroll from our house along the beach. It's a great place for families and there seems to be a bit of new growth in the area. Winters here are lovely, beach combing and bush walking are just a few of the things you can do. There are plenty of primary schools in the area and a new high school in Kingston. The local shops are great and I'm told public transport is OK once you understand the timetables. If you're thinking of moving to Blackmans Bay you won't be disappointed.

"A relaxed friendly place"

We moved here four months ago form the country. We had to downsize and be closer to medical care for my husband. We were dreading moving to the 'suburbs' but Blackmans Bay has been a lovely surprise. It is very quiet, has great places to walk our dogs and all our neighbours are lovely and friendly. Great local shopping centre and the bigger centre of Kingston only 5 minutes away. Bus into Hobart at the door, great views, great cafes close by, what more could you ask?

"Excellent!"

An excellent place to live for an extended or short period of time. In my eight years of living here I have never ONCE had any issues with anyone living here. Everyone I have met has been delightful and being such a nice small area it's easy to walk to the shops, restaurants or the lovely beach in the area. The best place I have ever lived for sure, delightful.

"A lovely place to call home"

We moved here 3 months ago from interstate. Blackmans Bay is a lovely beachside suburb, we are very high up and yes sometimes the wind blows but not often as stated in the previous review. The neighbours couldn't have been friendlier we were invited to a bbq on the very first day we moved in and more than one neighbour called to introduce themselves which was lovely. The suburb is well serviced by good local shops and the beach is beautiful. We have loved every second of living in Tasmania so far and couldn't be happier. There is some traffic congestion at the moment but this is caused by the construction of the new Kingston bypass. Once this is completed there should be no problems at all. The suburb also has spectacular views of the ocean and across to the Iron Pot Lighthouse and the eastern shore and Bruny Island, we are often enthralled by the Cruise Ships that pass by. There are some excellent restaurants too which is a great bonus. The area is clean, green and very safe. We love it here.

"Bad Bad Vibes"

When i first moved to Tasmania i Chose to live in Blackmans bay because it had everything i wanted or so i thought. I was shocked at the shear rudeness of people and the horrible traffic congestion. The views were good but that was the only one good thing of living on a hill. There was terrible wind everyday and this meant for a horrible stay at Blackmans Bay. They have tried to fit mansions onto postage stamp lots and this looks very unsightly and means that the whole suburb suffers from unsightly and un characterized houses. All i see when i look around is square blocks people call homes. Not only do i have unsightly houses but there is no such thing as privacy. Its basically like living in your neighbors back pocket i spent most of my 2 years at Blackmans Bay with my curtains drawn and blinds down. I wold never recommend this suburb and loath at the rudeness of people. wish i had of chose somewhere nicer to start my stay in Tassie.

Whilst everyone is entitled to their view, having lived in my places throughout Australia I couldn't disagree more with these comments regarding Blackmans Bay. Having lived here for over 20 years I have always appreciated the friendly nature of residents (I have never consiously met a 'rude' person) and sense of community. Perhaps the writer was having a 'bad hair' day as the comments dont reflect reality.

Familyoffour

I agree with DaleB the above review does not in anyway reflect the experience we have had in Blackmans Bay and it is a shame that such a poor rating has been given to this suburb. It is one of the friendliest places we have ever lived.

Hopefully BarbraLons has moved to another suburb or planet...
Blackmans Bay is a great place to live, the Neighbours are friendly, the views are great and its close to everything, also the Beach is a great little spot that's not too over crowded, I would highly reccomend Blackmans Bay to anyone. It doesnt matter where you live you will always get negative people like BarbraLons, people like this should stay indoors, the world would be a better place if we had less sooky wingers like BarbraLons....

oliver_klozoff

How come whenever someone whinges, about any town on this site, they're always really bad spellers?
And they seem to be broke and/or have issues with the locals/neighbours and there's usually a dig at 'snobs'.
Just sayin'...

Here here I Hope They all have moved on....I moved to the Bay 7 years ago all be it in Rate Payments my home is there and i will be to one day.I love coming "home" when i can the place grounds me and makes me take stock of my busy life.
I LOVE THE BAY.

SasS1

Having lived in Blackmans Bay for over 20 years, and now in one of those supposed "mansions", I think that BarbraLons has a touch of the green-eyed monster!! Sorry Babs but it sounds like you missed out on the blocks when they were selling for a song! Also what "traffic congestion"?? I think you might be confusing Blackmans Bay with somewhere else... another planet maybe??Add a comment...

I have lived in Blackmans Bay for over 30 years and find it to be a wonderful place and getting better all the time. New restaurants , coffee places , walking tracks etc make life very comfortable indeed. :)

"Beautiful Beach and safe area"

Beautiful beach, fantastic schools, clean, safe, family friendly area. Only 15 minutes drive into Hobart too. The Beach restaurant is fabulous-the food is great. Would like more swings/playing apparatus for the children. Local shops and take away's are close by. We love living here.

"Heaven on the Hill"

I have lived in Honeysuckle Drive in Blackmans Bay for 5 1/2 years, and it's a great place to be. The neighbouhood is quiet, and the neighbours are fantastic - always ready to say hello or lend a hand, but never intrusive. And the views have to be some of the best in the world. You can walk to the shops, and the bus stop is just over the hill. All the services of Kingston are only a few minutes drive away, and there are plenty of schools. All in all a fabulous place to live.
