Reviews of Blakeview, SA

"Lynton Court"

Bought a house in Lynton Court which is an older part of Blakeview, house was built in the 90s.

I have zero complaints or regrets about buying here. Have nice quiet neighbours and haven’t experienced anything bad at all.

I would definitely recommend doing your research as Blakeview seems to have a few distinct areas some with more problems than others apparently.

I’m guessing there was no provision for social housing when these older parts were built so that’s why we don’t seem to have any of the issues described by others regarding Blake’s crossing area.

Just my honest two cents worth, not trying to sell my house any time soon.

"Beautiful Suburb Offering Convenient Living"

The growing suburb of Blakeview offers convenient living with amenities including doctors, pharmacies, Woolworths, BWS and news agencies. Elizabeth City Centre and Munno Para Shopping Centre are also just a short drive away. The suburb offers beautiful parks and playgrounds with plenty of school and childcare options close by, and regular public transport available.

"Quiet, friendly and affordable"

I have been in the Blakeview area for over a year now. I was a little nervous after reading some of the reviews however it really hasn’t lived up to the negative reviews. Blakeview has been very quiet. My neighbourhood is really friendly. There are lots of young families around. There are some really good schools close by. I haven’t experienced any break ins. There are a few questionable people that get around however you will get that everywhere. Living in Blakeview is comfortable, affordable and great for young families.

"Decent for starting a family, or getting your foot in the door with first house."

This is blakeview. Not Blake's crossing like most of these reviews are about.

I live 7 mins up the hill past Blake's crossing and find that it's fairly quiet but i am lucky to have nice neighbour's. Most are young families.

Decent place to live as there are a lot of choice with shops around the area..just some shops have um..more interesting characters than others.

End of the day, its the northern suburbs so there are pockets of good areas and pockets of bad depending on where you venture out.

Would not recommend living here if you have moved from somewhere else, and are looking for a forever home..definately a temporary move to get your foot in the door with buying or building.

P.S - The estate "Blakes Crossing" is definitely overpriced, mainly full of investment properties, my family chose to build a bit further up and its been peaceful so far.

"Quiet area until night...Burnouts, Theft etc."

Lived here for 10months thought the Blakeview area was good apart from the clowns speeding around near houses. Burnouts are a common theme late at night
To top it off Had my rims stolen from my vehicle overnight when my car was parked in my driveway and it was left on logs and bricks. Moving and never coming back to the Northern Suburbs.

Quiet during the day.Absolutely feral starting from when the tradies start coming home. What makes men in their 30s think burnouts are cool. Then you have the idiots on motorbikes thinking its fun tearing around the side streets at night.
Dont get me started on all the townhouses in the area most of which are rentals full of arrogant pigs with no regard for anyone else
when it comes to parking and rubbish disposal.
Heres an idea if you have three cars and the townhouse has a single garage go rent a house you morons.

"Quiet during the day but hoons doing burn outs at night"

Moved to Blakeview from Mawson Lakes, the area is much more quiet in comparison, if you suffer from pollen allergies, it's probably not the place for you, as there is huge farming fields near by which during the dry season, you will have coughing fits... Pros, it's close to shops, walking distance to woolies and Aldi, pet friendly, good for growing families as there is park amenities near by, even dog parks. Cons, it's gotten a lot worse as the years gone by, more and more neighbour disputes, cops being called out at night for domestic disputes, theft and break ins, noise, burn outs or dogs who just don't stop barking...and I mean 12 hours straight barking. Overall, it's give and take, cheap area to rent or buy but go more north if you want a quiet suburb.

"Seems to be getting worse"

Blakeview is an outer northern suburb located within metropolitan Adelaide, South Australia. Situated a maximum of at least 45 minutes away from the city, Blakeview is settled closely to the Northern Hills, with Craigmore (next to Blakeview) leading into the hills. To start off with, Blakeview has two seperate areas - there is the older part of the area south of Craigmore Road. This is the original area of Blakeview, and has been here since 1990. North of Craigmore Road lies the newest part, Blakes Crosssing. This is a new developing suburban area and has so far made fairly good progress and most of the houses are pleasing and attractive. The area itself is also attractive, and so is the original Blakeview area. The newer areas can also be considered as just Blakeview.

Blakeview is a mixed bag of an area, with quite a few pros and cons. Let's start with pros. Blakeview has good public transport, as it is so close to Main North Road and Craigmore Road, catching buses is a breeze. When it comes to shopping options, Blakeview serves a good proportion of shopping centres/venues, and the closest and newest Blakes Crossing Shopping Centre, offering a variety of shops such as Woolworths, Coles, newagencies, ect. You also have Munno Para Shopping City and Elizabeth City Centre just down the road on Main North Road, easily accessible via Craigmore Road, which so happens to lie in between of the two parts of Blakeview. The area serves an amount schools in and surrounding the area, and just to name a few, there is Salisbury High School (Salisbury North), Trinity College (Blakeview/Evanston South campus, all close by) and Blakeview Primary School (in the older part of Blakeview). Blakeview Preschool, one of the closest to the area, can make childcare services in the area average. The last pro about Blakeview is that the houses in both the new and oldern parts are ranging from cheap to slightly expensive, most being fairly cheap.

Now we've pointed out a few pros about the area, let's point out the cons. Obviously, Blakeview is far from the city, with the minimum time to drive to the CBD from Blakeview takes at least 41 minutes while the maximum could take at least 45 minutes-1 hour, if traffic is so bad. Although the area serves a good transportation service, it would take even longer to get to the CBD because buses usually have to stop at all the bus stops in their path, and can delay time or even get caught in traffic. This is a no go area for those who need to work into the CBD but can't afford anywhere in the inner city of Adelaide. Try Mawson Lakes?

Schools may sound like there is a large proportion in the area and will be excellent, but most of them have bad reputations, such as dramas and problems with the school kids. However, your best option is Trinity College. Overall, your child may have a few issues regarding kids and other problems and would be better off driving to schools further southerner to Adelaide. Anywhere before Paralowie is better.

Blakeview is unsafe! There are many hooligans living in and around the area that love to start up trouble or ferals causing neighbours distress. Crime is quite high here too, and even though the two parts are modern, there is still a lot of crime going on. Not quite sure whether the City of Playford Alive council will do anything about it if they want the best out of the Northern suburbs. Break-ins and car vandalism is very apparent and occasional, as well. Pretty much, Blakeview's safety is as bad as Smithfield. Internet access is horrid in Blakeview, as the area is still on a Telstra Rim, which basically means its a device that Telstra uses to help support the Internet and phone services in the area where there is NO EXISTING COPPER (disgraceful, right?) or COPPER WHERE IT IS UNUSABLE. If the council, once again, wants the best for the Northern suburbs, great Internet services would be one of their main priorities?

Nightlife is also terrible in Blakeview and the surrounding areas, and a drive to the CBD/beaches will make you happy you did in the first place! Apart from the few pubs and bars in the area, being verbally abused by the local residents or even beaten up will be frightening enough for you to ditch the gehttos and go into the MUCH safer CBD/beaches.

In conclusion, Blakeview could be considred a mixed bag of an area, as we pointed out many pros and cons to the area, to which I can say that Blakeview is only great for its amenities. The area is surprisingly getting worse, as the crime rate continues to increase and more ferals and hooligans begin moving in. In my opinion, I would beg for you to try Mawson Lakes as a much better alternative, as there are no ferals, no crime or problems with schools/kids, 20-30 mins to the city, etc. Or an even better option I would beg for you to try are the outer southern suburbs. A bit more expensive than the Northern suburbs (obviously), but will be completely worth it! There is actually fresh air, no ferals, crime, around 30 mins to drive into the city, has excellent schools and has the best beaches in Adelaide! I definitely recommend you checking out Mawson Lakes or if you love living close to amazing beaches and you have the freedom and fresh air, check out the southern suburbs. Seaford Heights is a brand new developing area, to name one in the southern areas, and there is more to choose from there!

Great for

  • Shopping
  • Public transport is regular

Not great for

  • Very far from the city, especially for work
  • Very unsafe - lots of hooligans and drunks roaming around
  • Ghetto of an area yet so attractive - DON'T BE TRICKED

  • Burn outs and hoons

You're being very short sighted about the area. There is so much here, the wide open spaces, good medical services, close to the country and city. I've lived here for nearly 12 yrs now and have NEVER experienced any of the negative things some of the reviewers stated. The neighbours are lovely and I can walk to all the shops and can't wait for Aldi. I have everything I need right here and wouldn't live anywhere else.

Wendy, your basically saying Blakeview is fantastic *only* for its amenities. If people have had more problems than what you have, sorry for being harsh, but I'm going to have to agree with all negatives about Blakeview. Trust me, I've visited this place before and while it may look nice and attractive, it hides a secret - unsafe, unpeaceful and horrible people.

"Blakescrossing - the place to be (if you want your house broken into)"

I would not recommend living in Blakescrossing. There is a high amount of break-ins and vandalism. I signed a lease on my property for 12 months and in that time our cat was killed in our front yard by a stray dog, our next door neighbour's skip was set on fire twice while their house was being built, our other neighbour's house was spray painted in graffiti and the water pipes were busted and flooded our carport. We have had 2 attempted break- ins while in the house with my 18month old child. And just last week the neighbour’s house over our back fence was broken into, robbed and trashed! I have not re-signed my lease for obvious reasons. Other than that the estate is also still being developed so is rather dirty. While on the flip side the local vet and shopping is great. While there isn’t a lot of shopping; the chicken shop, woollies and the discount chemist are great - always clean and great staff. One thing people are also not made aware of is that 30% of the estate is made up of house trust homes we have 4 on our street, it is always noisy, always with kids roaming around the street at all hours and the teens like to hang out at the Hayfield park. Through summer they were there most nights drinking and carrying on. The closest public transport is on craigmore road, which is quite good, but I don't feel safe walking through the area in the evening. ITS JUST NOT A NICE PLACE TO BE

I have lived in Blakes Crossing for nearly 12 months and love it.No break ins or vandalism near me.Also there is no housing trust in Blakes Crossing only 15% affordable housing which you have to buy to live in.(all of the people i have met living in affordable housing are young quiet working couples just starting out in their first home)

nasam

Yes you are right in saying that there (15% affordable housing which you have to buy to live in) but also 10% of the Estate is Commission homes owned by housing trust if you would like conformation on this feel free to contact delfin, they are happy to explain that this is the case not only in blakes crossing but all new estates being built in the northern suburbs and SA. Like all the other new estates it also has NRAS home which are for low income earners. All I can say is you are very lucky to have not experienced these problem because it was the most uncomfortable year of my life!

Your pretty sure your car got broken into! You don’t know? You sound like the idiot to me. I have lived West Lakes, Grange, Blackwood and Clarendon Areas never have I experienced this much destruction in 12months!
Im not saying I have a problem with Blakeview as a suburb Im saying I wouldn’t recommend living in ‘Blakescrossing ‘ the housing estate! I now live in Craigmore and have not had one problem in the 3months I have lived here, giving me 15months also living in this area! I haven’t clamed to know more than you do ‘about your area’ I’m just simply commenting about my experiences!

Hi AnnaT2 im in the woodhaven part of Blakes crossing. Ive lived here now nearly 4 years and in my part of Blakes crossing i have found to be quiet. I think its not so in the Hayfield part of Blakes crossing there are alot more houses there and Hayfield was an entry level part of blakes crossing

Since you live in the "Woodhaven part" of Blakes Crossing, which is literally a street, the rest of Blakeview is exactly the same as your "Woodhaven" location? I'm just curious, and confused?

"Kids and family love it! Envy of friends"

Affordable, close to ammentities great shops all close by.Love the new woolworths. Its exciting to see what happens to the new developement at Blakes crossing. Glad that house prices will (eventually) rise in older sections due to new interest. Hey I really do love my suburb but we have had our share of problems with the Craigmore school kids who on a yearly bases smash one of our windows..unfortunately being a corner house opposite school is geographically an issue as we are sitting ducks. But we (touch wood)have had no serious problems with ferals or the like..just dumb kids. Everyyear we also catch them trying to light fires by the playground opposite school..and some gardens in our street..so these kids are usually walking through Blakeview and continue to walk away from suburb so obviously they're from neighbouring suburbs not this one. As a result I refuse to send my kids to ANY of the schools in this area..so thats a negative. But on the whole we have a great house lovely reserve and walk ways and great neighbours..cant ask for much more.

"Blakes Crossing"

A wonderful place to bring up a young family. But also good for retirees, young people and professionals. Have lived within the blakes Crossing area for 4 months and have fallen in love with the area. There is no need to go any further than blakes crossing. The shops are now up and trading and its wonderful to be able to walk to the shops a minute away for the things you've forgotten. The neighbours are quiet and friendly. Childcare is only a 10 minute walk along with the zoned primary school. With a new school and childcare centre planned for the new blakes crossing. Blakes Crossing is looking like the new Mawson Lakes. I'm loving living here.

"Great place to live in the Northern Suburbs"

Blakeview is a new developing area with much to offer. The area spans from the eastern side of main north rd up to the foot hills and provides a lovely outlook from many streets with a diversity of residential building design. This is by far the best of the Northern suburbs... I wouldn't live anywhere else around here. There are local shopping centres and schools nearby and the addition of Delfins Blakes Cross development in Blakeview will also provide a nice shopping precinct for existing residents and new residents building in the area. We lived in our first house in the old part of Blakeview and have recently built in Blakeview Grove along the foothill. Our house is a 10 min walk to the future Blakes Crossing Town Centre without the price tag!! Realty SA who developed our estate have designed a linear park which will provide most streets with access to a walking trail.. although they have not finished this as yet. We are happy with our new house and the houses that are being built around us. The area has increased in value and we were surprised at the market value of our old house and value of our newly built house... fantastic! The area is a safe place to live and I always see people walking or exercising in the morning, day and night. We are a young professional couple (in our early 30's) and have found that most of our neighbours are professionals with young families or are semi-retired. This is consistent with the demographics for Blakeview. If you want to live or buy in Northern suburbs come and have a look at Blakeview.

"Quiet location and neat as a pin!"

I have lived in Blakeview for the last 7 years and really like it. It’s quiet. It has a low crime rate which is really important to me. It’s very fortunate that we have quite a few police living in our quiet streets.
If you are considering moving into the area there are a range of schools from child care on Park Lake blvd, along with Craigmore High, Trinity College and Blakeview High all on the same street.
I find people are friendly and when walking their dogs will often stop for a chat if you like!

"I have lived in the area for 2 years now, and I wish I had never moved here."

At first glance the area looks great, lovely and quiet. But after settling in, we soon saw otherwise.

With 2 small children, the lack of parks, preschool and childcare centres, is difficult. The Lack of schools was a disappointment, unless you wanted to go to Trinity, Trinity or Trinity. (It seems that they were the only school that was in the area, and in Gawler – How many campuses do they need?) Or a public and catholic school that combine to shares the same facilities. The zoning of kindergartens and the overpopulating of the area (which is getting worse) has led to no vacancies for the local centres. Leaving me to travel near 30 mins to get to a preschool.
They keep sending out glossy brochures of the new Blake’s crossing, its upcoming shopping centre, schools and parks, but these aren’t going to be available for approx 3 more years, a lot of good this is to the residents of the new development.

Medical facilities are average, with on average 1 doctor on duty, the wait to get in is shocking, and I wouldn’t think (again) to do a walk in with a sick child. Last time I travelled to Modbury Hospital instead.

I agree with “Skope” it does seem to be a black spot. For me to make a phone call on the mobile, I need to stand at the front of the house near the window, so as not to lose reception. As for internet, (which I booked in to have connected 2 weeks before we moved in,) I still cannot get connected. With promises from all the big – and little companies. Oh I can have wireless dongle, WOW. After spending all that money on it I would have been better off with dial up. I could hardly get a page to load.

Shopping is non -existent, unless you want to go to Munno Para, where you a graced with one department style store (Kmart), and a few little knick-knack and clothing stores, that after one visit and you have seen everything.
‘Zebra 987’ wrote “A friendly environment. Good for retirees, singles, families and children.” I wouldn’t call it friendly, with the constant houses on the market and the rentals in the area; it seems that they can’t keep people here. I also wouldn’t let my children play out the front, with the hoon drivers, (reminder- The poor old gentleman who lost his life after being hit by a hoon driver on Craigmore road) I am even cautious before pulling out onto the road or crossing it. (And I have had my licence for - Lets say...long enough)

There are no real restaurants to eat at, except the fast food style, with the exception of cafe primo.

So, it seems that you need to drive out of the local area, to get anywhere nice to eat, shop at. Or get to a school..... So why would you want to live here?

I am sorry if I offend people, but hey, people don’t want a “glossed over the surface review” They want to know what it is like.... I wish I did.

derail

Do you actually live here ?, the fact that you rated cafe Primo as a restaurant shows the caliber of your report, I was surprised that you didn't also put Maccas in as a restaurant, no it's not like Norwood where every second shop is an over priced cafe.
There are lots of local pubs, clubs within the immediate area that serve great, honest, well valued meals not to mention a myriad of pubs in nearby Gawler and Elizabeth that have some great meals.
As for schools geez there is Trinity, St Columba, Mary Magdalene, Blakeview Primary (yes I know it shares it library with Trinity), the new super school at Munno Para West, the proposed school at Blakes Crossing, there was Smith Creek primary on Anderson walk but it was shut due to lack of numbers, not to mention the nearby public and private schools in Elizabeth and Gawler.
As for shopping centres Munno Para, Craigmore, the new one at Blakes Crossing, a few boutique shops on Main North road, Elizabeth shopping centre and its nearby shopping villiage, not to mention the nearby Gawler shopping centres and boutique shops.
My guess is that you were forced there against your will and are just looking for a place to whine, I have lived here for 20 years and have seen Blakeview go from strength to strength, a great place to live.

skyline

its a bogan are. i wouldn't let my children play out the font. they would probably get killed or kidnapped knowing all the ferals at blakeview. and the nightlife is definately a 1. there are probably that many fights at night, you would not go out to a pub, club etc. you would get beaten up etc. terrible, bogan, cheap area. by the way derail, Norwood is actually a good area where you can go out at night without being stabbed, and the cafes arent really that expensive

derail

Try and run a spelling and punctuation speller Skyline,
Well I must be living in a parallel universe, I have been here for 15 years and haven't witnessed any of the ferals as you call them, my neighbours are mostly Army and Airforce people who are really nice and I have no problems letting my 3 year old ride his bike up and down the cul-de-sac.
Yes Norwood is a lovely area with the exception of being filled with middle class yuppie wannabes.
Blakeview is what you want it to be, as for people who want to be unhappy here because they couldn't afford to buy or rent anywhere else.. nothing will change their minds.

LanyC

Well I have lived in the western side of adelaide and guess what...house breaks, hoon driving, vandalism, all types everywhere you go in nearly all areas.I also own a rental property in elizabeth and both areas are just as bad as each other...home is what you make of it.put some more security on your house.Take out insurance.Just be happy you have a roof over your head

"convenient and comfortable"

lived in blakeview as a couple and years after leaving remain friends with families and retirees from the area. all services in the area such as mobile reception and internet reliable, can not recall these or any other services failing us a single time. local shops at two convenient locations within minutes, as is the huge munno para complex. elizabeth shopping centre also within ten minutes and a new homemaker complex on the northside of town . many local ovals and parks and only less than ten minutes away is gawler with many more services including sa's best fitness complex, Starplex. good schools such as trinity available. travel times to and from city a lot quicker than southern suburbs. convenient to barossa and yorke peninsula. hospital at elizabeth. doctors surgeries within blakeview and also munno para. i would say the suburb of blakeview is very well serviced in most respect. most often within minutes. also found it quiet and trouble free. found it a great place to start home ownership until a move interstate. on the negatives, no good dance clubs within a few thousand kilometres if that is what you thrive on, some immediately neighbouring suburbs are home to troublesome elements, and for an above average feed you will have to drive to city centre as do most residents of south australia. not an affluent suburb but populated by good people and appreciated by most who reside there.

"A friendly environment. Good for retirees, singles, families and children."

Blakeview has some lovely parks where you can go for a stroll and walk the dog.

Shopping is great here with Munno Para S/C providing everything you need. Also Bunnings, Harvey Norman, Plush Furniture, Fantastic Furniture, A and R Computers, Bridgestone, Ultratune, Cafe Primo, Hungry Jacks, Blockbuster Video, Pizza Place, Noodle Bar, Chinese Restaurant etc. etc.

Schools are plentiful, not far from Elizabeth Shopping Centre and Gawler.

Close to the Barossa Valley and countryside.

"Black Spot"

Blakeview is far from an ideal suburb to live in. It is a known internet blackspot and has patchy mobile reception. There are plenty of hoon drivers that get around the main roads and back streets. A total lack of parks for kids and there are no local shops unless you want to go to the Munno Para shopping centre which is located in Smithfield. The same goes for medical treatment and most other things. There is nothing great about Blakeview and it is becoming nothing but a cheap and nasty area.

I have no problem with internet access or mobile access and I live in this area.

ill informed? negative? pessimistic? upset that life isnt all you hoped it would be? inaccurate post!

Skope

Mike81 - I think it is you who is ill informed. Areas of Blakeview are in a Telstra Rim - hence a lack of internet. As for hoon drivers, have a look at the flowers on Craigmore Rd after a hoon driver took the life of another person by Knightsbridge estate at the beginning of September. Pessimistic, probably but get your facts right before you mouth off. No wonder houses don't sell around here. People want to read the truth, not some glossy sales agent pitch.
Zebra987 - Blakeview is quite a big area, just because you get internet and mobile access, people reading here might like to know that there are problems and would be best informed to check these things before buying. Skope.

Thanks skope you said what i was thinking "glossy sales pitch". I too have internet and mobile issues, wish i had have known about it before i moved here!!

derail

Lots of parks, plenty of playgrounds, excellent Internet in most parts (only small areas on rim or pair gain) and who gives a stuff about mobile reception...get a proper phone line.

truefacts

I am not offwering a glossy sales pitch !!!! I am a resident and have been for 11 years and I have had no problem with mobile access or Internet I certainly have not seen hoon drivers as you say. I have sold a house in Blakeview and bought a new house in Blakeview, in my 11 years of living here. yes sadly a guy was Killed on Craigmore road but hay this happens in the best of Areas. you see it all the time on the news!!!! I always thought Para hills was a good area utill I lived in Para hills and got broken into, to find out after half my neighbours had also been broken into!!! I am very happy with living in Blakeview, had no problems at all!! and will as a home owner defend it. have you Skope actualy lived here I think alot of negative people live in all areas. I am happy to say I am a very Positive person, and live a good life becouse I remain positive and avoid negative people as they will see the negative in everything in Life.

"Home values will increase..."

Blakes Crossing - Delfin, Blakeview Grove - Fairmont Homes, all fantastic for the area. Blakeview Grove will become a robust and keenly admired market as the combination of new homes mixed with Delfin's shopping centre and the already established Munno Para.

What do I really like about the area? The great views of Adelaide and out to Virginia that can be seen from the majority of houses in the area, the healthy slope that Blakeview is built on is a benefit most current home owners there take for granted and new buyers see as a real bonus when buying 'New Home and a View'. There have also been some terrace homes built and sold quickly, which is something we will see alot more of in Adelaide in the near future.

Land block prices still appear affordable at Fairmont's Blakeview Grove. A big winner on home values here will be Gawler and those people living in cheaper homes across Main North Road facing Andrews Farm. When Blakview prices increase, which they will as many will then the other areas will look even more attractive on price.
