Where in Brisbane is great for coffee scene, trendy and good for families?

we are a family moving to Brisbane. Being from Melbourne admittidly I find it hard to migrate up here, but my husbands job required it. I have found it hard to get a rental house in Paddinton, and newfarm, as we want a pool and backyard for the kids with 4 bedrooms and study. Its getting way too expensive in these areas, so if you can let me in on other amazing places to live with a cool scene, instead of the "suburbia" feel.. which I get too bored in. Also near good primary schools for the kids..

Try St Lucia, Taringa, or Indooroopilly. If you cross the river you get into suburbia, but areas like Graceville and Chelmer still have the "Coffee" scene and close enough to the busier areas across the bridge.
