"Best all-rounder"

Probably best suburb in hills area. Leafy, clean, safe and all amenities near by.
One of the Best Non selective public high school, good primary schools
Great connectivity with direct bus to CBD, Parramatta, 2 metro stations , Good shopping options castle tower, castle mall, Victoria avenue
Playground (fred caterson, coolong etc) parks (heritage, eric )
Clubs and dining ( RSL, piazza, old northern road)

However the high rise apartments are eyesore. But overall a great all rounder

"Need more amenities. Need more buses. Train is useless."

So much like Cherrybrook. It's not a central suburb with no amenities for local, you have to drive as there are limited buses, shops plus there are no local petrol stations!

Over the past few years, Castle Hill has become a much better suburb than how it was previously. With the new Sydney Metro that is to be connected to the City by 2024 and the to Bankstown and the new Western Sydney Airport, Castle Hill is now a very convenient location, and has 2 stations at Castle Hill and Hills Showground. With express buses to the City, Parramatta, North Sydney and Hornsby, Castle Hill is ideal for people who work in any of the CBDs and is also convenient to Norwest Business Park and Macquarie University. Castle Towers Shopping Centre is set to become the largest shopping centre in New South Wales, making Castle Hill even more convenient for shopping. Castle Hill has a very diverse community, with people from many nationalities. Castle Hill also has some good schools, including Castle Hill Public, Castle Hill High, Oakhill College and Cherrybrook Technonolgy High for some parts. Castle Hill is quite a safe suburb, and is also very clean. Castle Hill also has lots of reserve/heritage parks and greenscpace, and is a good place for investment with all the new infrastructure. With the development of Castle Towers, the Metro and many other projects, Castle Hill could be the new business hub of North West Sydney.

How Castle Hill has changed since I lived there as a child at "Garthowen" in the early 1940's. It was a place for unwanted children but in fact was a house run by a kindly lady named Miss Mathews and her father. I loved it there until I was taken away and flown to Brisbane to live with strangers who were in fact part of my family who I had never known. I am now 83 but still remember vividly the kindness shown me when I was there as the youngest of the children of whom there were not many. Being taken from "Garthowen" was one of the saddest days of my life....John Pullinger, Beerwah Queensland

Rentals in Castle Hill

"Most livable area of Sydney."

Green, leafy, surrounded by large modern and heritage style homes with large blocks and quiet culdesacs makes living in Castle Hill a breeze. Before you know it you will be taking it for granted. Upon return to Castle Hill from other areas of Sydney, you are reminded of how lucky you are. This is a place for families (crime is some of the lowest in Australia) and parks and recreation areas are no further than a short walk away.
Castlewood is particularly nice!
In Castlewood (bordering West Pennant Hills), expect friendly neighbors, clean manicured gardens, and friendly waves from all around. Your afternoon exercise will be met with runners, families walking their dogs families out in their gardens.
If your lucky you will even get yearly street party's and neighbours that genuinely care about keeping Castle Hill a strong and safe community of professionals and families!

Best streets.

"Leafy with good transport and education facilities, but too much traffic"

It's in close proximity to James Ruse Agricultural High School, so students here in their secondary years are relatively concerned about their education, and you won't see large masses of teenagers skulking around in unnecessary locations. Castle Hill is a green leafy area but its only downside is that access to social hubs and shopping complexes is relatively limited, with necessity to go to Carlingford for options. Carlingford, however, does not have a great range, and so, because many residents will struggle to get shopping availability, there is much traffic congestion. Other than that, the outskirts are very good as it is situated in a peaceful, geographically splendid region.

"It used to be great."

It was once a nice Subarb but over the years it’s starting to deteriorate and the charm is fading . The high rise buildings are an eyesore and it’s getting overcrowded with limitations on parking in the shopping centres and surrounds . The recent opening of the train station is allowing accessibility to more people , unfortunately increasing issues like vandalism such as graffiti , drug taking and excessive drinking which is on the increase typically on Friday and Saturday nights Quite common to see road rage incidents in car parks eg Castle Mall . The place is going to the dogs unfortunately

"Expansion - train - shopping centre"

So the NSW Government has officially agreed to the expansion plan for Castle Towers as of the 22nd of February 2019. Renovation will start this year and once finished and 1 billion dollars spent, it will be the biggest shopping center in Sydney. In addition to the Metro train station, there will be multiple high rises building projects starting this year and next year.

There are further discussions on building business centres next to the shopping centre to be similar if not better than Chatswood and Parramatta.

Castle Hill’s houses and units are much larger in square meters and parking is plenty. Greenery is evident and demographic is mainly family and middle class.

It is definitely the area to look at for 2019 and everyone’s throwing money into the area.

Infrastructure will need to keep up for the increase in people numbers.

"Mansion city with the personality of a piece of wet cardboard"

Yes, Castle Hill is a nice suburb. There's the Heritage Park nearby which is awesome if you have small kids or dogs, some local shops (The Local Bean in Knightsbridge is amazing), and the large Castle Towers shopping centre. However, be prepared to drive everywhere, which is ironric due to the lack of petrol stations apart from the 7-11 which IMPOSSIBLE to get to. Castle Hill is a victim of its own complexity, meaning that the nearest bus stop is either a 40-minute walk or a 4-minute drive. There is the new Metro railway coming in, but 10 years too late. Whoever said it's only 30 mins to the city needs their head checked. Try an hour and half on the overcrowded 610X, stopping every 15 seconds to pick somebody up. Getting home is even worse as the busses get clogged up behind 1 set of lights, past the QVB.

"Expensive and bland. Possibly the most overrated suburb in all of Australia."

When people from outside Castle Hill meet residents of the area, suburb champions almost always immediately point out; 'You can get to the city in 30 minutes by bus!' and 'There is a train station being built!!'. The need to justify living here when presented with the rest of Sydney as a better option burns deep within them and the best reason they can come up with is that a mythical 30 min bus corridor to the city exists. The trouble is; anyone who has ever driven on a Sydney road knows this is a flat out lie (it's 33km from Castle Hill to Martin Place on one of Sydneys busiest roads) and while a train station is indeed being built it's about 20 years too late. It's also a strange selling point that in half an hour you can be somewhere better.

Castle Hill is a victim of it's own weird popularity. It's median house price is as high some of Sydneys "better" suburbs yet it offers almost none of the amenity. No sparkling beaches, no vibrant pubs or café scene, still no railway station. It is not close to anything. It is defined by it's very beigeness and is populated largely by conservative penecostals, people who wear cargo shorts, those who enjoy sitting in traffic on Pennant Hills Road and a legion of space cadets who firmly believe a 30 minute bus to the city is ready to rock up any minute now.

If you are a fan of early 2000s Jim Masterton McMansion architecture, consider a visit to a shopping mall an inspiring cultural activity, hate the beach, love traffic and dream about 30 minute bus rides; Castle Hill is the place for you. If you value anything else your money would be better spent at just about any other location in Sydney.

"Castle Hill is a safe, good and leafy suburb"

Castle Hill is a safe and good suburb, it is really a great area to live in everyone is friendly and you can take the kids and walk around the area and not have to worry about your safety.

Schools in Castle Hill are ranked highly for both Primary and High School e.g. (Excelsior Public School and Castle Hill High School).

Transportation in Castle Hill is fantastic, there is the Hills bus which takes you to the City CBD or there are 2 Metro train stations in Castle Hill, Castle Hill Metro train station and Show Ground Metro train station they are both AMAZING and ultra convenient with trains coming every 4 minutes in peak hour.

Property prices are growing rapidly in the area with a median house price of over $1.5m.

With Castle Towers Shopping Centre constantly upgrading and expanding to one of the states biggest shopping centre.

Castle Hill has it all... safe family area, great performing schools, convenient transportation and big bustling shopping centre. The area is set for long term growth and a very exciting and promising future!

"Property prices on the increase"

Property prices are growing and it is definitely due to the new rail line. It’s gonna look like Chatswood and Parramatta, CH will have the biggest shopping centre in all of NSW, rail line into the city, high rises are going up everywhere and they are decent sized units -> we need more schools!

People from the north shore are already looking at properties around this area as areas like Chatswood are way too crowded and Eastern suburbs take more time getting into the city than people in the hills take.

Once the new rail line opens I know my family and I will be travelling to places like Chatswood and the city without having to drive and trying to find parking or only having 3 hours for free or having to pay for crazy car parking fees.

"Oakhill College Castle Hill"

I’m extremely unhappy with Oakhill College at Castle Hill. There are too many bullies at the school and the school does not protect the victims. They do everything in the power to protect their reputation and sweep all the problems under the carpet. This school is all about maintaining a fake facade and appearing like it’s a top notch school when in fact it is exactly the opposite.
This school has hired a teacher who was performance manged out of the worst state school. This teacher was investigated for a matter where a school girl took her own life.
I would NEVER send my children to this school, it’s a fake school with no substance. Just take a look at their poor academic results. It’s not worth a cent of your money.

"Overall Castle Hill is a great place to live"

1. Good size house for a young and established family;
2. Close to Norwest Business Park and Macquarie Park for jobs;
3. Great kids activities programs and a huge shopping centre. Castle Tower is going to be expanded to be the largest shopping centre in NSW.
4. Bus commute to City can be long during peak hours but off peak hours it only takes 30 mins;
5. Sydney Metro is expected to be completed in the early of 2019, which will change the life of residents in Castle Hill. When the second stage of Sydney Metro is completed, it will be appropriate 35mins by subway to City with every 4 mins per train during peak hours.
6. Castle Hill is a safe suburb but it could be pricy as avaerge income per household in Castle Hill is well above Sydney's average household income. Majority of residents in Castle Hill are professionals or small business owners/retirees.
7. Capital growth in Castle Hill is great in the past 4 years. On average, property value has jumped more than double in the past 7 years, thanks to Sydney Metro.
8. Public and private schools are not outstanding in Castle Hill (rank between 75-180). I would travel a bit to Inner West for MLC or Newington. Once the subway is built, these schools will be 45 mins away by train.
9. People are very nice in Castle Hill and the area is so green and peaceful. Great place to relax with family and recharge over weekends. At this stage, Castle Hill is more suitable for family and maybe too relaxing or boring for young couples who love to chill out and party at all times.

"An amazing place to live, it needs no big write up, there are some downsides to consider."

Castle Hill in very quick summary has amazing shopping centers, it's close to Rouse Hill which has the best shopping center in Sydney, however both areas are very far from Sydney and are plagued by Red-bellied snakes. For a young family this place is probably one of the best places to live in Sydney, it's got a really good family vibe, it's super laid back, the people are really nice, and the shops are top notch and ultra clean. It's a dream place until you get bored and wonder "What now?". For all its beauty, Castle Hill is kind of nowhere and for a person seeking life and thrills, this place can get boring quickly. Lastly, house prices are very expensive in Castle Hill, is it worth it? Well no, but considering Sydney is expensive everywhere, I guess maybe? A real downside is the public transport system which has failed Castle Hill fairly hard. They are working on doing something about it, but until they do it's very much a car commute area.

Overall I would recommend Castle Hill for those who can afford it, and those who are willing to commute long to get to the city. Beware of the snakes, but aside from that it's a really pretty and peaceful place to live.

Great for

  • Big shopping centres
  • Big houses
  • Clean and peaceful community
  • Community/neighbourly feel
  • Relative isolation...

Not great for

  • Long commute
  • Expensive
  • Bad transport
  • Middle of no where

Commute via Express Bus to the city from Castle Hill Tower is less than 30min, a whole lot less from Bondi Beach to the city most times. I don't know where you get the snakes statistics from because never seen or heard anyone I know had this problem in Castle Hill. The train line is already in the pipeline and it won't be long if you want to be closer to the city's urban nightmare.

It has its richness as specified in the name itself as 'Castle'..
Nice schools and good crowd of people. There is a good mix of kids, new young families, middle age kids, and older people this is how a place should be with all mix.

Commutation is one big advantage here and you got the interchange thast is a great advantage that we can have the seat right from the starting point at castle hill, these days ppl are not getting seats after few stops due to the increase in population, and the Malls and RSL Clubs, dining are another good thing we really enjoy about this place.

"Capital growth here we come"

Castle hill will have the biggest shopping centre in all of Sydney!

Once the train station and Sydney's biggest shopping centre opens up you can ensure your property will go up like crazy.

Small trendy cafés are starting to open up, restaurants are always packed, the shops are always busy.

Castle Towers is one of the most profitable shopping centre in all of Sydney- people here are educated, middle class, most people here prefer not to have airplane noise over their heads, low crime, fresh air, family orientated, large houses and great schools.

Only con would have to be the waiting time for the train station and shopping centre to be built. However you can be guaranteed capital growth. Give this place a few years and it will be just as big and popular as Chatswood and Parramatta.

Personally, I think it is overrated as it quite far to the CBD and is not centrally located but on the city's north western outer suburbs. Land sizes are quite big but per square metre price not so high given the cost of some of the houses to build. I think in about 10 to 15 years time alot of the houses may appear dated but I could be wrong. I think it could be good for families that don't need to travel far.

"Another setback"

Castle Hill once a vibrant streamline area is set for a distant future as surrounding areas are set to top the capital growth and cash flow scales in the coming years. Sadly Castle Hills developments are currently slow with upgrades including the train line set to be established and... not much else. Hornsby for example is set for a bright investment future, including many development sites and high rises set to push the medium housing costs sky high in 2015 / 2016 and continuing developments and area upgrades making it not only a top area to live in but a promising investment.

"Family oriented suburb with safe and peaceful environment"

If you are looking for a huge house with affordable price, Castle Hill is the best option. Most houses in Castle Hill have enough spaces for 3 generations (in-laws, couples, and children) to live togher under the same roof. The beauty of it is that your in-laws are able to look after your kids and your meal/house while you are busy with work. Castle Hill is also a great place for retirement as it has huge land of green environment and fresh air. One thing to notice about Caslte Hill is its public transport and price for food. Castle Hill has wide range of bus network but it does not have train. If you don't mind spending 1 hour on the bus to city for work every day, then it is ok for you. Many residents in Castle Hill are either rich retirees (old people with huge savings in the bank) or professionals so the prices for food in Castle Hill are expensive. Some of the food or restaurants are more pricy than city.

Moved to the Hills from Liverpool in 2000. Never looked back since, everything is here, not planning to move. Need nearly an hour to get to work, but hey any length of time for transport is worth living the lifestyle in this place. Would even want to be buried here in the local cemetery. Still unsure about plans for trainline, since trains will bring undesirables to the area and even more traffic! "Castle Hill – what a great place to live!"

To many people’s surprise, Castle Hill is only 31 kilometres north-west of the Sydney CBD and outside of peak hour is a comfortable 30 minute drive along the M2. It is a very well established area of Sydney having been first settled more than 200 years ago. In the past 20-30 years, Castle Hill has experienced incredible population growth and is continuing to grow at a rapid rate with a current population of well over 30,000 people.

Castle Hill is central to the Sydney’s Hills District which is well known for one of the best places in Sydney to raise a family. With high quality schools, amenities, accommodation, transport, shopping, sporting facilities, entertainment, employment opportunities and a strong sense of community, it truly is a great place to live!

As a Finance Broker, I have also found the Castle Hill area to be an excellent place to do business with many of my clients residing within the Hills District. Whilst most of the residents in Castle Hill are second and third home buyers, there is still plenty of opportunities for First Home Buyers in surrounding suburbs including Rouse Hill, Baulkham Hills and Kellyville.

"Need train line urgently..... To much traffic congestion"

Its a nice place to live although traffic is really terrible all the time and frustrates me. This is the only negative part of the suburb and I may even move because of this.

"Ultimate Family Environment"

With a plethora of amenities and great community environment, Castle Hill has been quite an attractive option for families for many years. In 2008 the Hills Shire ranked 4th amongst all Local Government areas in terms of Quality of Life. Being so well serviced, there is not the need to leave the suburb.

The main demographic group in Castle Hill are Families. There are 11 Schools and 9 Childcare centres within the area, and all schools have rated favourably on the Australian Governments My School website, further increasing the desirability for families to move to the area.

Castle Hill residents are generally not first home buyers with the majority having mortgages on their properties. Although the majority of dwellings are freestanding, there is a good mix of town homes, apartments and over 55’s retirement complexes, the largest of which is Mowll Village – the first of its kind in Sydney.

The Majority of the area falls within the Hills Shire council with a small pocket of homes known as the “Oakhill” Estate falling under the Hornsby Shire council. Castle Hill can be broken down into several different estates, all with different characteristics and home types.

• Knightsbridge Estate – North of Showground Road
• Balintore Estate – North of Yaringa Road
• New England Estate – South of Tuckwell Road
• East Excelsoir Estate - East of Old Northern Road
• Kings Road Estate – Off Kings Road

"Go Ahead Castle Hill"

The suburb of Castle Hill is situated 31 kilometres north west of the CBD in the Hills District of Sydney. It is a very old area of Sydney having first been settled in 1802 when a noble Frenchman was given a land grant of 200 acres.

This is an area of Sydney that has grown astronomically over the past thirty to forty years. It now has a population of nearly 35,000. I can remember as a child being taken for Sunday afternoon drives to Castle Hill and seeing market gardens and orchards. The area’s past as an orchard growing area is remembered each year with the Orange Blossom Festival.

Today all these have disappeared and been replaced by the suburban sprawl. There is the enormous Castle Towers Shopping Centres with Grace Bros, David Jones, Woolworths, Coles, Target, Kmart , hundreds of specialty shops and a large cinema complex. There are many schools, both private and government to cater for the number of children in the area. There are retirement villages. The Mowll Village established in 1959 on Old Castle Hill Road was the first of its kind in Sydney. Since that time many others have been built in Castle Hill.

Castle Hill is a very well serviced area. There are a number of private bus companies which operate in the area. You really do not have to leave the suburb to get anything you want.

"A great place for families"

Castle Hill is located to the North Western side of Sydney. People who live around here are mainly families with children in their teenage years. Houses here tend to be big and of the "MacMansion" types where you have more than four bedrooms and massive living spaces within the house. Streets are often lined with trees and there are many bushlands surrounding this suburb; hence making it a very tranquil and peaceful place to live in.

Castle Hill Towers is home to many major department stores such as Myer, David Jones, Kmart, Target and labels such as Sportsgirl, Witchery, Lisa Ho and many more. There are both public schools and private schools servicing the education needs of this area. In addition to that, the library is conveniently located behind Castle Towers and has access to many genres of books and publications.

It takes about fifty minutes by car to get into the city from Castle Hill. Buses are the only form of public transport that services this suburb and unfortunately, the buses cannot be relied upon at times and getting to the city can be a problem if you do not drive. Getting into Castle Hill can be a real pain during peak hour as the two main roads (Old Northern Road and Windsor Road) get very congested due to only having either one or two lanes available for traffic. Despite these issues, Castle Hill remains a popular place to live for families and real estate prices are often close to the million dollars mark.
