"Great street, fantastic neighbours, quiet, safe and attractive."

I don't think you could beat Coral Avenue for its community spirit, beautiful homes and location. It's a quiet street, not a lot of traffic and safe. There hasn't been a burglary in the street since I have lived there (5 yrs) that I know of. There's a mix of couples, families and retirees. Most of the houses were built around the 40's, have been beautifully restored and have lovely character. The vast majority of the gardens are really nicely maintained. We always get compliments on how lovely the street is from visitors. I think it's going to get very hard to buy into Coral Ave as no one wants to move out, all the houses are lovely, the area is fantastic and just getting better and better. It's an easy walk to cafés, shops, schools and public transport and is so close to the CBD.

"Simply, a great street to live in"

I've lived in Coral Avenue now for five years, and it's easily the most friendly street I've live in since I moved to Melbourne in 1995. Most of the neighbours know each other, and we'll make a point of getting to know you if you are new to the neighbourhood. The street is really kid friendly, with parents of one lot, volunteering to look after another lot, if their parents want to get out for a few hours. We have a yearly street party in November once the weather is warmer, and the council closes down the street so we can do so. It's close enough to walk to Highpoint if you feel up to it, otherwise it's a 5 minute car trip. You are close to Flemington, the Maribyrnong River, and there are a number of parks close by. It's ten minutes to the City via Footscray Road, and it's only 30 minutes to the Airport. The houses are all Cal Bungalows, that with some work, represent a great real estate investment. You are a stones throw from the Hospital, and bus/tram stops which deliver you directly to the centre of Footscray and the train station. The North Footscray Primary is just across Ballarat Road, and Footscray Secondary is a 10 minute walk away on Farnsworth Ave. Child Care is close by, and we are just about to use it. All in all, it's a well located and very friendly street, and one I highly recommend.

"Extremely convenient location!!"

Schools, shops, hospitals, you've got it! I lived here for most of my childhood life. Its been extremely convenient, being just a stone through away from Footscray North Primary School but also close to Summerhill Plaza shops. Whenever a shop closes, another one just re opens. Access to public transport was great, you have buses that can take you to Highpoint, Footscray or even Sunshine.

In time the street had really deteriorated. The homes mainly period style homes, many werent really maintained. If I were to purchase one down this street, Id look out for things such as large trees attacking plumbing and and consider things such as restumping and replastering.
Many homes down the street have been burgled, ours being one of them not to mention our neighbours. The area seems to attract a lot of junkies!!

During the day the street has always been relatively safe for children to play on as there usually arent many cars at all. The street is practically dead at new years. One side of the street was usually belonging to older residents and the opposite the younger generation.

A very multicultural street indeed, just like the suburb itself.

I would never consider living here again (if I had a choice) however its not that far from the city (only ten mins drive!!), not to far from Highpoint shopping centre, hospital was only 2 streets away. Theres a gym on Rosamond rd and a pool next door to it also.
Not a bad place to raise a family as its convenient to everything, not too many parks around at all though. House prices have jumped immensely in this street, what you could purchase for 50K in the eighties would now be worth at least $350,000 or more. Great resale value if you can afford to get into the market but be prepared for a lot of maintenance. Ideal for someone who is a jack of all trades as they really are high maintenance.
