Geelong's feel... Quiet or empty?

Hi Guys,
We are looking to move out of Melbourne and into Geelong to escape the hustle bustle. We went down yesterday and walked the streets of Geelong West, Newtown, Herne Hill..... and there was not a soul in sight! For HOURS! We eventually found a dad and his son playing footy in the park after driving around. But a bit of context it was a rainy, covid afternoon... We want quiet but we don't want empty.
My wife and I both grew up in the country and I suppose the lure of Geelong is going somewhere that you know your neighbours etc. So after living in Melbourne how does Geelong feel.
I know this post may seem a little 'What do you want?' but it's such a big decision so any genuine feedback would be really helpful. Thanks in advance guys.

Hey there! Geelong overall is a great community and in-particular the suburbs you mentioned! Like anywhere else, COVID has impacted on the social and cafe life of the (usually) bustling parts of Newtown and Geelong West - namely Pakington Street that runs the length between them. The fact that most sports aren't on at the moment is making it feel 'slow' on the roads but that's about to change. Geelong has so much to offer; you won't look back!
