As a Property Manager working in and around Hawthorn, I say YES, Hawthorn is a good place to start out on your new adventure. There are lots of properties for lease and you can decide how far you want to be from Glenferrie Road. The Glenferrie train Station is a busy hub, servicing four lines so there is never a long wait. A stopping at all stations train is only 12 minutes to Flinders St. Plus the #16 train which runs the length of Glenferrie Road. To live in Hawthorn you really don't need a car (depending on where your work is located). There are also some great cheap eats restaurants - so many choices! Oh, welcome to Melbourne :)
