"Love Kareela!"

Moved here from Sydney city area and we are absolutely loving it.
Leafy and tranquil streets with views to Oyster Bay area.
Safe, people are friendly, good school, and Kareela Village for a quick stock up.
Very good balance between convenience and privacy.

"Wonderful for Families"

In one sentence: it's a low-density area with low-levels of traffic, and feels beautifully safe.

We used to live in North Sydney when younger, but have now fallen in love with The Shire - lovely beaches, all the shops/ services that are needed, an excellent shopping mall (Westfield Miranda), and a safe place to live.

Kareela is particularly great value-for-money, and has its own sub-community feel. Kareela has bush views, water views, good schools, Kareela Village shopping centre, easy access to main roads, and more.

"Quiet and family friendly suburb"

Our young family have recently moved to Kareela from North Sydney and immediately fell in love with this suburb.
The local community is very friendly. The local public school has a very high ranking. It’s surrounded by the parks, golf course and Oyster Bay. The shopping village has everything you need. Many young families are moving in this area. The houses are being renovated. Therefore, the suburb has been changing. Cronulla beach is just 15 minutes away, Royal National Park is 10 minute away. Commute to CBD is 30-40 minutes off peak hours by car or 55 minutes by public transport.
Overall, we are very happy moving to Kareela. I think you can hardly find anything better for the price.

"Kareela - a 1960's suburb in looks and attitude"

Kareela isn't even the best suburb in southern Sydney. Says the real estate market.
It's for people who haven't travelled, have low expectations, and believe the Insular Peninsula is exceptional.

It was established in the 1960s and the look and attitudes remain anchored in that era.
The many brick veneer homes give the area an unattractive and unfashionable look.
Which pretty much sums up Kareela.

It's location on a peninsula does make for a more traffic free and peaceful area. The beach is not far away.

There are no well paid jobs in Kareela, so you will be commuting on the poor road and rail networks for hours each day. Universities are equally difficult to reach by anything but car. Beach is close. CBD is an hour away unless you travel at 2am.

"Quiet, leafy surburb, close to everything!"

"We are so lucky to have found Kareela, you could drive through Bates Drive bypassing it without knowing its there. We were lucky to have bought when we did because it has quickly moved out of our price range if we were to try and buy today. It's got a beautiful golf course, Nature reserve, another reserve which links to the golf course with a beautiful creek running through it and large sandstone caves at the top end. The local public school is excellent and our kids are happy going there. Most of the suburb is within walking distance of the school. Kareela Village is new and has everything you need for your day to day shopping.

"Quiet, leafy surburb, close to everything!"

Kareela is a lovely quiet and family friendly suburb located just off the Princes Hwy in the Sutherland Shire. It is bordered by Sylvania, Kirrawee and Oyster Bay and a lot of the homes have lovely water views or bush views. The shopping centre has been recently renovated and has everything you need, including cafe's and takeaway and a couple of restaurants. The local primary school is one of the best in the area. Many of the houses are currently undergoing renovations as the original owners have sold and downsized and new families have moved in. Most of the homes are very large, with some great architecture on display. With regular bus service to Jannali and Miranda, transport is easy and it's a very safe place for children. Approx 30-40 mins drive into the CBD and 10-15 mins to the beach.

"Hidden Nook on Oyster Bay"

We are so lucky to have found Kareela, you could drive through Bates Drive bypassing it without knowing its there. With Miranda 7min away if you need more options. They have also added a number of good restaurants and eating options. It's a green leafy quiet suburb on the bay. You have numerous train stations nearby. Unlike some other suburbs you get to enjoy the bush surrounding with low bushfire risks as it isn't connected to the national park. Most of the homes are on sloping blocks which adds another dimension to the look and feel of the suburb. You won't find two home that look alike which we find appealing.

"A rather parochial area"

Being one of the early residents, we lived there for over 32 yrs before moving interstate. Our children grew up in Kareela and attended the local school. We could not imagine a better place to bring up children as it is such an ideal community. Never having problems with noise, vandals, etc we didn't realise just how lucky we were until we moved away.My husband is always telling our new neighbours how great our neighbours were in Kareela. Also, our kids tell us how much they enjoyed their life growing up there.

"Family friendly with a great sense of community"

Having just moved to Kareela our young family felt at home immediately. The suburb has a great community feel and is the perfect place for young families to settle down and establish roots. House prices are good value for the size and quality of the homes as well as a great location.

"A hidden gem on the bay"

Having recently moved in to Kareela from the Eastern Suburbs I must say that is a pleasure to live here. Its a very quiet suburb situated on Oyster Bay. The majority of homes are double brick houses on good sized blocks, mostly built in the 70's and early 80's, so as you would imagine there is currently a lot of renovations going on. Location wise, its about 5 minutes from Sylvania, so CBD/Surry Hills is around 30 minutes off peak by car. There is a very regular bus service to Jannali station, so door Kareela to CBD is about 55 mins to 1 hour. Obviously, the breadth of dining options available in the inner west / CBD / eastern suburbs is not present, though there are a number of good local restuarants and very good cafes.....so you just need to hunt them out. If you want to head to the beach, its about 15 minutes by car to the Cronulla beaches. Overall i would say Kareela is an excellent suburbs for families and retirees, with peace and quiet, good amenities and not too far from the City. The area is extremely safe and friendly, with none of the social problems that are easily seen in many other areas of Sydney.

"Beautiful and quiet little spot"

To me, Kareela is the perfect little quiet suburb. Tucked away and borded by the leafy Kareela golf course and the shores of Oyster Bay. It is a place of community spirit and active community groups and where you can safely strolls the streets at night and meet the neighbours. The shops at Kareela are very handy and offer most conveniences (apart from a PO). The little Primary school is one of the best schools in the shire and is in high demand with people moving into the area so their children can attend it.
Kareela seems to be a mix of retirees and young families...the retirees are slowely moving out of the area as they look to downside and the young families are moving in and renovating the homes that is revamping the whole suburb.
There is ample wildlife here including alot of birds and bats.
I have lived here for only a couple of years and love the quietness of the suburb and the friendly faces.

"Quiet seaside suburb with a fantastic Golf Course !"

Small Suburb located on the foreshore of Georges River, a lovely quiet suburb where you find a mix of age groups. In recent times more families with young kids have been buying up properties in Kareela. Kareela Public School is currently the number 1 public school in the shire and has an extensive waiting list for people out of the area to attend. The School always produces oustanding Naplan results. The Kareela golf course is beautiful and always serves up fantastic dinner and luncheons overlooking the golf course!
A friendly peaceful neighbourhood that is hard not to fall in love with !

"Waterside suburb"

Kareela is a really tight nit community, located within the Sutherland shire its is approx 24 km in distance from Sydney C.B.D.
Kareela has a small shopping centre located between Bates Drive and Freya Street. Shops include a supermarket, a newsagent, bakery, butcher, deli, , Kareela Patisserie, Kareela Chinese Restaurant a Doctors surgery and other handy village style shops to meet locals needs.
You can expect everything typical of a bayside suburb here in water sports, and other water activity’s and the suburb provides a mix of accommodation to suit all kinds of budgets and needs .
