Reviews of Longford, TAS

"UP AND COMING SUBURB"

Longford is a small country style suburb located 15 minutes from Launceston. Recently 'built up,' Longford has all the conveniences a small town needs to thrive. With a mixture of new builds, character homes, heritage listings and commercial properties, Longford has the suitability for buyers, sellers and investors alike. With it's up and coming status and the current market, properties in the area are seeing great returns and sale prices.

"Quiet small town"

Longford is a lovely quiet small town, but it has so much to offer. One of the best grocers available, great parks and the river running right through the town. The town folk are super friendly and helpful. This little town is also only 20 minutes to the CBD.

"Overall, a good place!"

Longford is great to get the country town feel with the city not far away. Rental accomodation in Longford is scarce, highly competitive and overpriced...investment buyers you will never have a house sitting empty in Longford!! There are, however, plenty of lovely homes on the market at any given time. The primary school is good but no high school locally and the ones local children can attend are questionable. You never need to go to the city if you don't want to although you will pay more for groceries locally. The bus system from Launceston to Longford is poor with a limited timetable which is probably another reason there can be an undesirable element at night in Longford... they cant get home if they want to go to town! People are generally friendly with a good sense of community. Council doesnt seem to have a good reputation although we've had no dealings personally, and the rubbish collection is poor...only fortnightly, although the new addition of large wheelie bins for recyclables is great. Most sports for children are played in Launceston, which can mean a lot of travelling although there are some options locally for younger children. Having a medical centre here is great although as everywhere, it can be busy and hard to get into. If more could be done to deal with the undesirable element in the town it would be pretty much a perfect place to live.

"Safety Is A Concern"

Having lived at Longford all my life I have witnessed a downward trend in the safety and comfort levels within the community. There are many older people still driving who should have handed in their license years ago and youth who will do almost anything to cause trouble. It is not uncommon to find youth trespassing on other peoples property during the course of the weekend. I often find drunks running up our driveway and knocking on our bedroom windows scaring myself and children. Our insurance premium is alot higher than it used to be due to break in's in the area. There is not enough work being done to combat the growing issues of trespassing, vandalism and theft in the area.

The local supermarket is not able to price match the prices of larger supermarkets such as Coles and Woolworths so you find yourself paying extra for every day living. The cost of fuel is also higher than in Launceston and outer suburbs. With no competition on certain products you will find you pay a lot more than you would in a larger city.

How ever the main street still offers good old fashioned service, with many cafe's, news-agency, post office and local pub you will always find someone willing to help.

Rentals in Longford

"Longford - A great place to live!"

Longford is a great place to live and has a lot to offer. A great shopping centre with Medical Centre, Hospital, Chemists, supermarket (new supermarket being built at present), butcher shop, BWS, Commonwealth Bank, Newsagent, vets, Churches, Primary school, (bus service to Launceston Schools), great pubs and with some great restaurants there is no reason to head to town. Village Green with playground for smaller children, Skate Park for the older kids. Great place to ride a bike or walk. Ski the south Esk in the summer or just stroll the banks of the mill dam. Twenty minutes to Launceston, 1 Hour to the ski field or to the Highlands for fishing.

"An Unsafe place to live."

There are a number of youth houses in Longford. This leads to young prople with nothing better to do then damage property and cause trouble. We had to move because of this. I would never live there again.

"Fantastic place to live and work"

Just moved to Longford and bought a great priced house in Howick street. Great neighbours and close to school and shops. Lots of work opportunities plus great fishing and swimming locations.
Would recommend to all.
