Ten non touristy (?) Things to do in New York City in 24 hours

Time magazine recently posted a list about ten non touristy things to do in New York City in 24 hours..

http://www.time.com/time/travel/cityguide/article/0,31489,1843404,00.html

This list is a bit confused I think for it includes a West Village stroll, the Empire State Building visit and even Grand Central Terminal all of which I think would figure on a regular tourist's list.

Should we add some locations to this post? I would include taking in a concert or a film at the Brooklyn Academy of Music to the list as well as a visit to Little India/ Flushing or even Little Egypt in Queens to the list.

I second doing something at BAM. Also, maybe Sunday Brunch at Bubby's? Brunch is such a New Yorky thing to do.

Ooh Dos Caminos brunch? Haven't hit that up yet for brunch but I surely will. The meatpacking one is minutes from my apartment.

My English boyfriend and I fight over what Sunday ritual is better: the Sunday roast (roast beef, potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, gravy, vegetables) or the Sunday brunch (mimosa, poached eggs, smoked salmon.) You can guess which side I'm on!

This is a pretty cool list; I didn't even know that Bergdorf was the only New York-centric department store left in the city. Don't know if I would recommend Bowery Ballroom as the best place to catch a rock show, but that's okay.

I would think the Empire State Building would be on the list. Why wouldn't it. Since it is a NYC icon.

But it's pretty touristy, no? I'd pick St. John the Divine as an off-the-beaten track location! Not least because it's next door to the AMAZING Hungarian Pastry shop!

@ajadedidealist I agree the Cathedral of St John the Divine is stunning and worth a visit on a visit NYC itinerary.
