whats the general consensus for living in Maroubra

Around the Minneapolis cres, Yorktown parade, Portland cr etc etc. I know there is some council homing around there, but does it make it a dodgy part to live in. Looking to move somewhere a bit bigger for our little family (we have a nearly 1 year old), and would love something with a little more space than what we have, but hesitant to move somewhere that may be unsafe for my wife and kid to go for a walk in the morning/late arvo/early evening, or to parks etc.
