Melbourne voted best city in the world for 2011. Do you agree?

I agree with you both - I think Melbourne is definitely one of the best cities in the world. We have an ethnically diverse population that demonstrates multiculturalism works, world class arts and sports people and venues, gorgeous well maintained parks, and a thriving civic life. That doesn't mean we shouldn't aspire to be even better, by acknowledging areas we can improve, such as transport. As for the weather, perhaps we are such a cultural hub because it does drive us indoors sometimes!

I also live here. I was surprised to say the least, as i agree with all your concerns.
I think what set us from the rest of the cities though is the cultural diversity.
