Tell me why your suburb is better than Port Melbourne.

Who thinks their suburb is better than mine!!!!

I've been living in Port Melbourne for a good three months now and have fallen in love with it head over heels. I'm open to suggestion though, who thinks their suburb is better than mine?

The main contenders would have to be St Kilda, Hampton...maybe Middle Park?

I think the best single thing about Port Melbourne is how nice the people are. Combine that with beach views, great nightlife and fantastic food and I can't think of anywhere else I would like to live.

So why is you suburb better than Port Melbourne?

This is such an open ended question it's almost impossible to answer!! But i'll try...

Ok so it really depends on what you are after. I know a lot of poeple don't want anything to do with beaches and to them that's what makes Port Melbourne bad. The same goes for nightlife. I think only about 10% of people (if you're lucky) chose where to live based on nightlife and fantastic food. People raising a familiy for instance would be interested in moving to Kew or Camberwell because of it's proximity to good schools like Xavier College or Scotch College.

I am a little bias though, i love Port Melbourne and hope to be down there soon :)

I think Port Melbourne is overrated, significantly. Probably by the many property developers wanting to boost house prices. Personally I prefer Albert Park or South Melbourne, they at least have character. Port Melbourne has a very cold, industrial, concrete and glass feel about it being dominated by so many of the new beachfront appartments.

Port Melbourne is nice, but I prefer the burbs. Lived in Doncaster all my life and think it's great, not too expensive but with everything you need - good schools, great shops, lots of restaurants (especially Asian food), and the Eastern Freeway down the road.
