Any advice on buying an apartment - main beach versus surfers?

any info on price fluctuations, noise, extra fees and access without a car would be helpful if anyone has advice, a friend bought what we thought was a sure fire apartment in surfers and now finds the valuation down even though his location is amazing

Main Beach is a fantastic suburb, well serviced and within a short distance to anything you need.
It is a 'well to do' suburb with many beautiful apartment buildings, beach-front homes, luxurious villas down to entry level walk-ups. Tedder Ave has various restaurants, bars, shopping and a well stocked convenience store.
Very simply, Main Beach is a 'blue chip' suburb, Surfers has many more variables and while it has some great areas, there are many more not so enviable attributes.
Valuations have also slipped right across the Gold Coast, probably the hardest hit city in Australia.
