Corner of death

Hi everyone,

I have a friend who lives out in Templestowe, and every time I drive out there (miles out there), I notice on the corner of Thompsons Rd and Foote St there seems to be a different restaurant! Currently it's a Taco Bill Mexican place, and the other is a Souvlaki Hut. It's really weird that each time I visit there is a different restaurant...I think there has been a chinese restaurant, a malaysian restaurant and many others over the past 5 or so years. Am I seeing things or is there an unusually high level of turnover on that corner for restaurants?

I agree that the corner does have a lot of turnover re the restaurant business. It seems that no-one has hit on the right combination to have there. The Anderson St area seems to be the place to go for food and I don't think that the "corner of death" will be lucky anytime soon.

i dont know...i think the taco bill has been there for quite some time and the souvlaki hut is owned by kouta and seems to be doing reasonably well....i suppose time will tell..but it is on a awkward/busy corner......

Certainly is a strange corner. I just don't think that people in Templestowe seem to want to eat at a massive restaurant - you know the kind that makes you feel like cattle. I've been in the area for almost 20 years and some years it seems like there's something like 3-4 changes a year!

I think the Souva hut should do alright as it seems to be established now and people do like souvas!

I think as Tempy said...Time will tell!

I know the corner you're talking about and I never see anyone in the souvlaki hut, BUT The mexican place is always very busy on the weekends.

I think the problem with the souvlaki hut is that I wouldn't go to a souvlaki restaurant, I would only walk in and walk out...but the problem is that corner doesn't have a lot of foot traffic, so don't think the souvlaki hut will last either.

Yeah, I have a son who visits the mexican place a lot, so maybe the food there is OK. I think that next door to that corner is an old peoples place so I guess they don't want to wander down for mexican or greek food.

Looks like I was wrong!! Guess I'll have to check out the Souvlaki Hut and give it a taste test. Time will tell I guess as to how well they do.

So turns out I went to the Souvlaki Hut, and I must say, I was unimpressed. It's stuck between that "restaurant feel" and a "takeaway joint" feel. It's kind of in limbo land I guess. And I didn't really like it. The chips were soggy, and the souvlaki's were just ok. My chips were actually yellow as well, and although it was just "chicken salt", I still don't think chicken salt should be yellow on my chips.

It also took about 6-7 minutes to get my 1 souvlaki and chips, and to be honest, it should take about 1-2 minutes. I just don't see it working.

There is an amazing souvlaki shop on Swan Street in Richmond that makes amazing souvlaki's, and I would always prefer those type to what is served here.

I'm not trying to be harsh here, I really want them to do well, maybe I've just been watching too much Gordon Ramsay :)

that maybe goku, but I would have to say that it would take a lot to go to Richmond just for a souvlaki, (no matter how good it was). As for Gordon, then maybe your review should have had a few expletives thrown in... No better to keep it for the Ramsay show..

A KFC would kill it on that corner!

100% a KFC would kill it there, the only one in the area is on Doncaster Road.
