Reviews of Tolmans Hill, TAS

"John Gibbs Tolman"

This suburb is named after John Gibbs Tolman, a Hobart businessman, who purchased the whole area for just £650 in 1889 and until the 1990s was mostly bush and pastoral land. It is likely to be the last large-scale residential suburb to be established within Hobart City. Given its late development, there has been an emphasis from town planners to retain native trees and bushes scattered among the homes and guidelines on the permissible construction style of houses. This has led to visually pleasing streetscapes and relatively modern homes that enjoy sweeping panoramic views through the trees to the River Derwent and City below. It’s a short 5 minute commute to the City and tends to attract professionals and their growing families.

Looking for a home in Tolmans Hill?

"Odd people nice location"

Tolmans Hill has some lovely homes nearby but they can be quite pricey! Some neighbours up there can be weird and random people do come walking around a bit. Can be a bit stressful living in the area because of some of the expensive homes down on the flat making the area more expensive but also making it a bigger target from theft/crime. Would recommend to flip but not stay in. Lived Here for 4 years and planning on moving out soon.

"Amazing place with downsides"

I love the location its in the middle of everything with wildlife too! but liveng near aeverything comes with downsides too. I stayed here for a few months a while back and people from the clubs used to come knocking on our door quite alot. Have no idea how they managed to make it up ours and the neighbourhoods steep driveway but the drunk bogans find a way. Area could have potentianl but right now not reccomending

"Amazing place to live"

We absolutely love living here, moved in 8 years ago. We honestly cannot see ourselves ever moving, the location is perfect, so close to everything, however we are not living on top of others. Incredible views a d abundant wildlife. A gorgeous little park near for families. Super friendly neighbors. So lucky to live here.

Rentals in Tolmans Hill

"Top of the world"

We moved here two years ago after finding a lovely home in a quiet cul de sac. The views are truly breathtaking and the wild life that abounds keeps the kids entertained. Ease of access to the city was critical as I am on call for emergencies at work yet you have all the privacy in the world up on the hill. Even though there is no playground within the suburb, the fabulous park at Mount Nelson is only 5 minutes away. I wouldn't trade this place for anything in the world.

"Amazing suburb"

We moved to Tolmans Hill in 2015, having lived in a number of places within Hobart and interstate. This is by far the best place I have lived. The views are mind blowing, it's peaceful and relaxing up on the hill and the neighbours are fantastic, even organising family friendly street parties. Being only 5km from the city means everything you need is never far away. Couldn't rate this place highly enough.

"The best place to live in Tasmania"

We love living in Tolmans Hill! It is so close to the CBD and excellent schools for both boys and girls. It is only 5kms from the CBD but full of trees and with amazing views of the river and beyond. We have abundant birdlife here with robins, blue wrens and much more. We also have lots of kangaroos!

It is safe well lit and our children love to play in the street with the other neighbourhood children. The residents are all super friendly and the houses and gardens are well presented and well maintained. This has been the best place we have ever lived in terms of community spirit and convenience to everything.
